Such valuable tips. I would struggle with tension being good on one side and not the other. Been looking into a DIY tensioning device for the floor loom...

Thanks!! I've found that when I've wound on evenly, there's a much better chance for good tension. Let me know if you decide on a tensioning device & how it goes!

You didn't mention the warp sticks or any other kind of warp separater. If you don’t, the warp threads will merge into the warp already rolled on. When I talk or teach, I emphasize tension. It's just about the most important thing of all.

Do you use the same amount of tension regardless of warp fiber? I've always used cotton and a pretty taut tension; now I want to graduate to wool and am concerned about having it too soft, causing my shuttle to take nose dives to the floor. Advice?

Hi Weisha! What a great question! I aim for the same tension no matter the fiber. I use it as a litmus test. If a fiber snaps too much under the tension I like, I'll simply use that in the weft going forward. But everyone is different! Let me know what experiences you've had!!
