BMW enthusiasts claim replicating an M3 is a huge "no no". What does this mean for the M3 in the future? As the M3 prices continue to go up less and less M3 will be converted to full blown race cars. Today I discuss the madness behind my 330ci build and why I decided not to ruin an M3.

It’s a great car. You’ll find it’s hard to take pics cuz everything looks good. Hard to find one picture that sums up the whole car.

Built not bought! Sometime it makes more sense to build a lower model from the ground up instead of paying more for a Higher end model. Especially if you're going to be upgrading a lot parts.

Exactly. I guess it would be different back when the cars were newer but when the build list has a lot of the same parts like suspension and brakes(wear items). You have to want that M3 to get the M3 name. But again in my perfect garage I’d have both.

I think you're 100% right on this. Really nice video. I may do one like this.... and upload it after I sell the race car. My biggest complaint is not being able to drive it aroud to do test drives. I recently did a track day to do a shakedown and I couldn't even get into boost. Fuel pump socks were clogged. 7 days of prepping everything. 350 miles to the track. Only to load up and drive home again. It's completely not street legal. Like not even turn signals or brake lights or head lights. So getting it to a point where I wouldn't get pulled over constantly would be a lot of work. Eh. We shall see.

If I could even just cruise around close to home and do a quick pull or see if there's issues with it on a desolate road that'd be a giant win for enjoying the car. Because right now I can't do anything except dyno, quarter mile/half mile/mile, road racing, or autox. I literally can't do anything but those things.

sounds like an intense build.if I didn't have to worry about street legality id have the car way more extreme. I'm already worried about not having a horn and windshield wipers. and thats not to mention the exhaust DBs

It wasn't easy to do. As I mentioned the interior needed very little TLC to be 100% and I ripped EVERYTHING out to lose weight.

Cool video! Amazing 330i you have there. Good choice to build this into a track car. I owned both an E36 M3 and E46 M3. Both manual. Compared to my E39 530i and E46 328i I always missed the torque in low RPM in the M-cars. You really have to rev the M cars to feel the difference with the 28i or 30i engines. In day-to-day use I prefer non-M, especially when commuting in traffic etc. Last but not least: I prefer the E36 3.0 M3 (Euro) over the E46 M3. Simply because the car feels more analog to me and therefore reminded me of my E30. Try to get your hands on an European E36 M3 and you won’t regret it ;) Keep up the good work with your car and channel.

Man, really enjoying your insight to the e46. It’s reassuring my opt for the ZHP is the right choice rather then shelling out a few thousand more for a potential basket case M3 when all I want to do it go to the track.

Excellent video, I have driven both E46 M3 and 330Ci. I find the 330Ci is a nicer car to drive for day to day driving, my 330Ci is plenty quick enough to keep up with modern traffic, and it's comfy.

This why you see the M3 and the standard 3 series have such huge usage difference. (beside cost) Its easy to drive a 330 around all day, the M3 is fun, but it's better suited for a weekend car.

@@TenzaMotorsports No arguments from me, I recently had my 330 converted to run on LGP, so now its mega cheap to run :) and IMO the 330 deep growl sounds better than the M3 rasp?

I have a 330ci zhp and I was looking for M3 but I didnt want to pay for M3. After I am done with it, it will be faster then M3.

might be an old vid but 7-8k for a e46 m3 is no where near do able where I live (europe), they are at least 20k euro (so about 23k dollar)

My buddy whose into BMW says the same thing with the e36. In his eyes, Us spec m3 is not really worth it when you can easily get that same horsepower level by stroking the m5x with the 30i engines likes whats in your e46. Plus the cost per performance you get from building the non-M cars are more affordable than their M counterpart.

@@TenzaMotorsports Sure thing. Been a fan of the channel and currently looking either for an e36 or e46. I had an e36 325i a long time ago and learned to drive stick in one to the linear power curve these motors have. It'll be a backroad/canyon carver daily so it more so decision time to a vehicle pursuit 🤔.

Hi there, This is one of the nicest 330ci I have come across. I too have an M3 replica in which I'm building of a 2001 330ci. I been thinking of adding the side grills on the front fenders. However I cannot seem to find the 330 stickers, as I do not want to use the M3. can you let me know where did you find them? thanks

I made them! It’s an M3 side vent. I wrapped over the M3 logo with black and then I had my vinyl cutter do the 330 CI

Am I biting to much to chew trying to make a budget track /drift car on my 200k+ rusted under body 330ci ? I only care about if my engine will last does it still have life left to shine. Coming from a bmw owner ? Never to be a daily . Planing on subframe reinforcement new bushings. Stripping it out . Ccv system and coolant system. Allready had coil overs welded diff spark plugs and coils. What else am I missing for maintenance besides replacing rusted parts

You can replace every piece of that car. Sounds like your list is thought through well enough. What I did was talk to ECS tuning and they told me what I should start out with.

Heres the thing I much prefer to take a base car as much of the builds I have in plan the high spec is going to get ruined, the only cars I don't see the point of buying an base spec is an mr2 turbo as I want to 2gr swap it and it's cheaper to get the turbo and take out the 3s gte replace it with a 2gr and my subaru sti track daily build...

Yes. The kits were designed to be daily driven. Just make sure all your maintenance is up to date.

I’m pretty sure they do. But there is no reason for that. Just get upgraded non-m setups. They are better than stock M3 and often cheaper.

I had a 330i zhp with race cams headers exhaust, it was fun until somehow it threw a rod now I'm getting a e90 m3, but the zhp will always be special to me

@@TenzaMotorsports for sure man, i had plans for the zhp but it just didnt work out, maybe it was for the best because the whole subframe thingy even though mine was a 04 and I was told they fixed the issue, I knew a guy that had a 05 and his was messed up so maybe I missed the bullet 🤷‍♂️

Very odd. sounds a bit of lemon maybe? Most these 46s are bullet proof, especially if you know what you're doing with maintenance. You should upload some M3 vids I'd love to see what you get!

@@TenzaMotorsports it was actually on its 2th engine lol the 1st one blew up when I let my buddy drive it and he overrevved it, only thing I could think of is it had shrick cams on it but I wasn't able to find anyone in my area to tune it, but yeah man for sure I'm ready for it.

I paid 5k for my zhp sedan so I’m kind of in a weird spot. I want to race car it but 5k is a lot and the car is pretty clean. I think I’m just gonna enjoy the car for a couple years then I’ll gut it and shove a supercharger in it.

They are fantastic cars. They hold their value a lot better than the standard 330ci and I can see them appreciating. But if you're going to build a race car, I don't see much difference between the standard 330 and the ZHP.

The biggest mod I've done are bc racing coilovers which I did myself and was too lazy to film 😅 but now I got a go pro and my brothers home garage I should be able to slowly transform the ZHP.

All because everybody kept telling me I couldn't or shouldn't but they don't have much to say when I roll up and spank each and every one of them with my all-wheel drive 325 LOL my buddy just sold his 330ci because he was so embarrassed haha you're building that car for you when you wake up and walk out your front door or into your garage is that car making everybody else in the world smile or is it making you smile are they the ones getting Goosebumps all excited to drive or is that you? People going to stop letting others dictate how their lives are lived y'all are making me want to go out and get an M3 now and pretty much hate f*ck the shit out of it haha sorry
