Liquor store clerk here -- your "will it carbonate" series has been a topic of discussion between me and my coworkers recently. On a possibly-related note, I have only just a week and a half ago acquired a sodastream of my own. Your example of what not to do with Bailey's shall not go unheeded, but we'll see what kind of trouble I get into!

The tip to keeping from having a mess to clean up is, if you can create foam bubbles in a drink with just with a spoon, you shouldn't try carbonating it. If the liquid has the consistency of water, like most clear spirits have, it'll probably carbonate pretty well as long as you slow release, like Clive did.

You know, I can never remember having drunk tequila. I know I did at certain points in my life, because I can remember the purchase of two bottles of vodka, one of tequila, and a whole mess of lemon juice. *_But I cannot for the life of me remember drinking it._* Now there is just a vague feeling of dread whenever I see a tequila bottle.

My ex girlfriend once (before she and I met) drank a whole bottle of tequila, barely dragged herself home, and was hungover for a week. Just saying "tequila" to her nowadays would make her gag. I myself don't really touch things other than beer and white wine.

@@Backroad_Junkie yep, and most of that cheap stuff people buy including cuervo isn't even real tequilla. i don't think the word tequilla is even on cuervo bottle anymore. personally i like Heradura or Don Julio, 1800's pretty good too.

It's taking a LOT more CO2 because you chilled it first, Clive. It will also hold it's carbonation a LOT longer if you chill the drink first. Hell, if you put the alcohol in the freezer and bring it down well below 0°C, it should remain fizzy for quite a while. Mind you, don't do that with anything under at least 30%-35% alcohol or it will just freeze over time.

40% vodka becomes mushy and separates into water and alcohol in my freeze. 35% jägermeister doesn't freeze thou because it contains so much sugar.

Clive, you should really buy (or acquire via patreon support etc) the most ridiculously overpriced over marketed bottle of whiskey and sodastream it. Then dilute it with co-op ginger ale. And pour into a glass with ice. Bonus points for doing that in a tasting session with Ralfy vid in the conservatory :D

Thanks for the laugh out loud moment at 3:06 Clive, I don't get enough of those. If only I was younger... We used to drink 'tequila slammers' which were equal quantities of tequila and (freshly opened) Schweppes dry ginger ale. Then you'd cover the top of the glass with your hand and slam it onto the table-top, causing it foam up considerably. Then you knock it back...

At party I rented a slush machine with proper RGB colour scheme, except I added several bottles of tequila in one of them and some other kinds of spirits in the others. I don't remember which ones anymore. The only thing I was afraid of was to add so much alcohol that it wouldn't freeze. It turned out I could add quite a lot, but I unfortunately I can't tell how much. I had to taste the product, so some details about that evening is kind of fuzzy.

Buy a restaurant whipped cream maker. You use nitrous oxide for whipped cream (or laughing) and CO₂ cartridges for carbonating.

Please think about this carefully. A Sodastream will give you carbonated water, fruit drinks..............BUT here is the problem that has always prevented me from buying one. To add Tap Water with its many impurities can seriously mar the taste of just about any drink that you make. All carbonated (commercial drinks that you buy) the water goes through a serious filtration process, and even UV Lights. The very best Tap Water that I tasted, was in Ayrshire Scotland. In certain areas of the UK, the council water supply may not be good enough. Just a point worth noting.

I tried using my parents Soda Stream to carbonate milk when I was in my teens. As you do at that age. I could not release it from the device without most of it going up the kitchen walls. Massive clean up job afterwards.

Ex Bartender here, Alcohol doesn't get stronger when you carbonate it. What happens is that the alcohol mixes with the c02 and forms bubbles. Those bubbles when drunken are quickly absorbed in the back of the throat and the roof of your mouth and travel quicker to the brain. Making you feel like it's stronger, but you are getting drunk quicker. This is also a similar effect when drinking alcohol through a straw. Hence, why so many ladies are given straws at pubs.

Oh Clive, The best laugh I have had all week. It’s all about doing unexpected things which are just brilliant. At the age of 10 I used to blow things up in my mum and dads back garden. I used to pressurise rockets until they exploded. My dad was a tool make for rolls Royce and he would bring home fittings for pipes. I'm not much into straight tequila, but a few drops of orange extract and a bit o' sugar makes it quite nice. I imagine that'd be so much yummier if carbonated. (Cuervo had an orange version, called "Cuervo Anaranja" or something, which is where I got the idea.)

Small chain of bars in Wisconsin, US have Tullamore Dew (whiskey) on tap (thereby carbonating it as well). A specialty they serve is the "Dew and Moo" which is a shot of Tullamore Dew with a pint of New Glarus "Spotted Cow" ale.

Hi Big Clive, I've done several experiments with the SodaStream machine. It works best if you let your liquid rest on the machine for about 5 minutes before release the pressure. It ensures the co2 remains in the liquid longer. I carbonate orange juice, and it works well.

Had a sodastream for a while and used to use it for about a year or so before I realized that between carbonation tanks and syrups I was actually spending more than I would normally drink in soda. Never once did I think about carbonating liquor. I'd imagine this would be great for cordial liquors (you know sweetened liquor) like Wild Turkey and Tennessee Honey. Or even just Jack Daniels, with a pinch of sugar, who needs the Cola anymore? Great idea.

I'm old enough to remember the much smaller and more eco friendly sodastreams that used to be grey with those small glass bottles with the twist effect on the glass.
