Terminator Genisys is a 2015 American science fiction action film directed by Alan Taylor, and written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The film is a soft reboot of the Terminator franchise, taking the basic story of the original film in another direction. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, who reprises his role as the Terminator (following his absence in 2009's Terminator Salvation), alongside Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke (no relation), Jai Courtney, J. K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matt Smith, Courtney B. Vance, and Lee Byung-hun.

They don't go into too much detail but we actually do know some stuff T1: John sends Kyle to protect Sarah, to the same time and place that Skynet sent the terminator, using the same time machine after the base containing it was taken over T2: Same thing. John sends someone to the same place and time as Skynet but this time we don't know how John got his hands on the time machine T3: John is killed and his wife sends the reprogrammed terminator after the TX. Again we don't know how she got her hands on the time machine

I would have to assume an alternate timeline John sent Pops back. Maybe for a plot twist, Skynet sent it back to fuck with the timeline. 🤷‍♂️

It's hands down, the dumbest thing about the film because it's never explained who, how or why, or even what she was protected from. A Terminator set in the 1970s is definitely a better plot idea than the rest of the movie, and wouldn't have been such a bad launching point for an actual reboot if they made the villain something interesting.

Except for the obvious plot hole. In the first film Kyle was sent back *after* the T800 and T1000, but he said only the T800 and himself were sent back. So either Kyle was lying, or Future!John lied to him. Either way 'Uncle Bob', Current!John and Sarah have no way of knowing that Bob is the last terminator in existance, and every reason to think Future!John is lying again, and that more bad terminators are probably coming.

@@anticarrrot I think future John just didn’t tell Kyle about anything other than the terminator sent to kill Sarah. It’s possible that Kyle didn’t even know about the T-1000 and Uncle Bob going back. In Genesys, Kyle clearly doesn’t know what the T-1000 is or that T-800s can be reprogrammed. Although the Resistance video game shows that Skynet sent the T-800 to kill Sarah and the T-1000 to kill John (and a T-850 back to kill Rivers) all before the Resistance even got to the time machine but it is likely that John just didn’t tell Kyle about this because it might affect the timeline.

Everyone is miscast in this: Emilia Clarke is too tiny to play Sarah Connor. What's his face is too bulky to play Kyle Reese. John Connor looks more like retail middle management than the leader of a rebel force.

not a fan of the run and gun sequence. plus why don't the people that make these movies understand that AR-15 type weapons are not effective against the machines? that is established in The Terminator. In the police station scene they show the Terminator taking hits from cops with M16s and having no effect it established that killing those takes a lot of fire power- thats why most of the human resistance use plasma based weapons and why explosive or high caliber weapons are used. In T2 and most of T1 most of the Resistance have plasma weapons since those are effective against the Terminators. its why i could not take Salvation seriously- the moment Conner landed and shot a T-600 in the head with an M4 i could not take the movie seriously.

Probably not as much as when he lied and said that he had an amazing idea for a new trilogy that he wanted to direct when he got the franchise back. But then did absolutely nothing on Dark Fate, didn't direct it, didn't write it and had no problems with 10 different people writing the script.....Nothing about Dark Fate was bad except for the writing and the convoluted story because too many people were throwing too many ideas into one story.

Imagine how interesting it could be if they actually used an insane person with a T800 shell. They could claim that it was the human element that makes them so much more dangerous. Send someone like Hannibal back with a terminator body but at the last point they decide that it's more fun to mess with Skynet or something. Instantly a more entertaining villian.

The movie could've explored there are pockets of Human Resistance scattered across the world. Each state has their own Resistance, John Connor is just in charge of LA. Other Resistance leaders across the world feel threatened by Connor's influence and wants him eliminated. Unlikely allies and enemies could be self aware Terminator and certain Human Resistance extremists. It could've been a Warring States meets Disunited States of America set in the nuclear apocalypse. Human dictators could rise during these trying times, acting worse than Skynet Death Camps. Maybe it's about killing Post Apocalyptic Hitler from 2029 AD.

Terminator Salvation: “We have John Connor in the future becoming a leader? Better focus on a random terminator/human hybrid.” Terminator Genesis: “We have John Connor as the leader of the resistance, destroying sky net and going back to stop the next sky net in another timeline? Better make him the villain and make him just another terminator.” Terminator Dark Fate: “We have a chance to undo the last couple of train wrecks and finally flush out Connor as the hero we’ve been waiting for? Kill him as a kid, replace him with a Mexican woman and make him a total footnote in his own story.” Will they ever give John Connor any actual development, or are they just gonna keep replacing him and/or shove him in the background?

same, I enjoy these movies for wut they are. I hadn't seen a single trailer for this when I saw it in theaters. I was entertained the whole time. I think they were tryin to dislike for the sake of not liking it and what everyone else said about it. Sometime u just need to turn off ur brain and enjoy the movie.

Not gonna lie, I have a bit of a soft spot for this movie. Is it good? No. But it’s got good things in it. The acting from Arnold and Emilia is good. The action is pretty solid. And some of the ideas are actually interesting. Sara becoming a badass and saving Kyle. Genesis/sky net becoming an app. And most importantly, John becoming a terminator and the main villain.

This was when I stopped caring about watching Terminator films in theater and I was like meh... I'll catch it on Netflix a few months later. When I finally did watch it I really liked seeing the difference between the old and new T-800's but those catch phrases man... oh god they where the worst yet. The intro was good but I hated the ending, every movie is a new timeline, none of them matter...

I would like to point out... They revealed that John was the big bad guy in this film in the trailer... THE TRAILER!!! Trailer 2 for this film just flat out shows it. Lmao

I'm right there with Doug. I have no idea what the creators were thinking when they decided to retcon Terminator 2, one of the best action movies ever. That's just a straight-up bonkers move. That's the kind of thing a clown would do after failing to pop a balloon.

Ah man, I never even knew that a new Terminator was coming out lol... Dark fate wasn't terrible though, they "got it" at some moments and absolutely botched it the rest of the movie.

I made the mistake of seeing it in the theaters. And when you pay that kind of money, you feel like you have to finish watching it ya know? Except for Eyes Wide Shut, that's the only movie I've ever walked out on.

Same here, it's the only post-T2 film I like because not only does it give T3's ending the middle finger it deserves, but it's the only post-T2 film to keep the hopeful message of it. And before others try to "actually" me: paradoxes are inevitable in time travel, so why not have one in which a nuclear holocaust and a bleak future is prevented?

@Robert Abreu and besides they gave John a new role he is no longer the one to be saved in a way they did what they wanted in salvation that was killing John Connor but don’t get me wrong his death in dark fate doomed everything because they just wanted to introduce a new hope and what it worse thy destroyed Skynet the supposed villain of the franchaise

@@guillermosierracuellar9812 No joke, the trailers for Dark Fate gave me such Rise of the Machines vibes, and that's primarily why I didn't see it, not because it was "woke" (because I argue that something can't be all that progressive when your "representative" characters are overburdened with trauma and having depressing things happen to them)!

@@DocZFlux Judgement Day was prevented at the end of T2. So they did have that ending. I agree T2 had a bit more of a hopeful message compared to T1, but there was still that dark tone and sense of dread. I hate all the post T2 sequels, but find Genysis to be the weakest tonally. It felt like this one was really going after the kids and trying to be Marvel. Which at least for me betrays the roots of this franchise. It's funny, T3 ending is the only part I enjoy in that film lol :)

I love your channel and it’s content Doug, as well as the rest of the crazy cast of crew such Rob, Tamara, Malcolm and the rest. However, I think it would be really fun to see you guys do a review of some old classic comedies such as blazing saddles, or even do a Monty Python March Marathon thing to see the holy grail, life of Brian, and the rest of those films if you feel up to doing that. Other than that continue making your great videos and I can’t wait to see what you do for the next terminator.

You know what would have been a good twist. If you're going to go through the effort of making Connor into a machine and sending him back in time, why didn't you have it where his AI, code, or whatever was the source of Skynet. It's sort of a play on the Judgement Day idea. It may have made no sense, but not like the rest of the movie wasn't already. It'd at least be a cool spine on the idea of the hero becoming the villain and maybe make you look back on the other movies in a different light.

I have not seen this movie myself, but I will say, that I almost NEVER take a sacrificial death fakeout well. It takes an emotional moment and cheapens it so that an ending can be 'happy.' Even as a sucker for a happy ending, I want it to be properly EARNED. If you're going to undo the sacrifice anyway, then why not show HOW death is cheated in the first place? It'd be more interesting, and not make the audience feel like idiots for caring.

Exactly! I can’t stand when people are totally averse to sad or bleak endings, but if a happy ending’s earned, then it works. Whatever kind of ending you have, it should work. Death fakeouts, in my opinion, do not earn that happy ending. Unless you’re Tony Stark in The Avengers, in which case I’m okay cause I wanna see a post-credits scene of you and your superhero friends eating schwarma

@@Overseer2579 and even with that, Iron Man was ready to die, and the way that he's saved makes sense in context. The 'fakeout' in this case is also more about them not being able to really check that he's dead instead of unconscious.

The "big reveal" that John Connor is the villain was in the original trailer back in the day. A very weird promoting choice if you ask me.

As much as I hate Dark Fate, I have to agree that this is the worst. At least Dark Fate wasn't as boring as this film and was trying a little bit, but this is a complete mess. And its biggest sin is turning John Connor evil. That's like turning Captain America into a Nazi.
