At least Honda owns up to their mistakes and issues a recall. Remember Hyundai got fined for stalling on their recall for engines that would catch fire and subject people to possible injury.

Agreed 👍 Eventhough Hyundai and Kia Theta engines were bad ( which were the blame of a lead engineer hired from Audi/VW), the Company should have forced better resolution at the dealership/service level instead of letting each dealership run amok in handling the recalls. Additionally, they replaced the engines with the same poorly designed engines. Needless to say, the lead engineer and his cronies have been terminated, and the newer designed 4 cylinder engines are much better.

This issue was known for several years while the company ignored those that suffered a failure and blamed owners for negligence. Some got luck to have their engines replaced under warranty or good will. I wouldn't be so quick to praise them as the real test will be how they go about the replacement and if the replacement will be done correctly. Just like KIA and Hyundai, I'm certain this recall will expand.. By the way, many 1.5T have suffered head gasket issues, though no recall "as of yet". Poorly designed engine. Years ago many 2.4 and 3.7L were suffering from excessive oil consumption. I lost count how many engines I replaced, not including transmissions.. Then they had VCM issues a few years later. It's like they no longer know how to make engines..

I had a 2008 Accord with the V-6 engine. I bought it used. It had a "silent" recall for the o-rings leaking. I was never informed of the recall until the check engine light came on. Honda said the recall was good for 8 years. Mine was 8 years 3 months old. Dealer told me I needed a complete rebuild. Cost was going to be $4500 - $5000. Honda refused to pay a dime. I'm done with Hondas. That was my 5th and last Honda.

I still love my 2015 Honda Fit, but at under 50,000 miles in 2018 her (name is Ruby) engine coils and fuel injectors blew. For the past 1-1.5 years she's had cluster electric problems. (now at 111K+ miles) Honda did cover the fuel injectors but initially refused to admit my car SHOULD have been included in the recall of other 2015s for bad engine coils. I had to pay about $580 back then. I was still pissed years later and wrote to the head of Honda (always go to the top person) and complained. They sent me a $500 debit card to make up for it.

Honda reliability is a myth. Their late 90s and early 2000s car, and even now, has major transmission problems. I remember the 90s trans would go out around 120,000. I bought a brand new 2000 Civic Si. Even though the engine was bullet proof since it's a B16 engine, one of their higher performance 8000 rpm engines, the car overall wasn't that great as it aged. The paint started peeling in 5 years. The corrosion in the engine drove me crazy that it happened in 3-4 years. My 2019 Mazda3 hatch's engine bay looks brand new. My 18 year old 3 series engine looks better than my old Civic in 3-4 years. The window rails kept failing. The car as it got older had so much interior rattle and road noise. Motor mounts, rusted sway bars, rusted exhaust, water in the tail lights. The newer cars with the 1.5t has oil dilution problems, the 9 speed transmission is faulty. The only reason why they're still up there on the reliability list is because they don't have that much tech as other cars, same with Lexus. They use very old proven tech, nothing innovative, not much for it to go wrong. I personally think BMW does a great job with all the electronics in their car and they were 3rd in 2022, 8th in 2023. They've been top ten for the past few years, beating Audi and the God awful Mercedes.

This explains why I haven't been so busy at work recently, even though winter months are supposed to be our busiest time of year. I build the driver seats that go into Accuras. We've been at 90 seats per shift, and when I started in October of last year, we were doing 210 a shift. Certainly has shortened my paychecks, now that I don't get overtime. Best I can do is stay for a full 8 hours and clean after shift/do work for 1st shift.

Several years ago I purchased a used Toyota 4Runner with low miles and (apparently) in excellent condition. I always took it to my local Toyota dealer for oil changes and "inspections". Well, last November the dealer (who had been under the truck for years) said "we can't change the oil because if we lift it the frame might break". ???? Found out that my generation of 4Runner was known for defective frames due to rust, and a multimillion dollar class-action lawsuit was going forward against Toyota in January 2023. Well...apparently Toyota had better lawyers and managed to get the case dismissed. Just found out that my frame is now broken. If Honda actually has the decency to recall and fix their vehicles, credits to them.

I used to work for a large city government fleet on the west coast. We had several hundred 1990's Ford Escorts. The older ones often used oil, and sometimes the oil level wasn't corrected quickly enough. Another mechanic showed me an Escort with a fist sized hole in the cast oil pan. He said the driver said the oil light had come on but she didn't think it was important and just kept driving, until the engine blew up. One of the big end rod bearings just let loose and whole thing punched through the oil pan. Ultimately they just totaled the car.

My wife and I bought a 2021 Honda passport brand new off of the front line at the local dealership. After about 8,000 Mi the weather cool down and naturally the tire pressure went down when I began to air the tire it blew the valve stem out Steam out. When the local tire store broke the tire down there was a huge patch inside of it. The dealership accused us basically of patching the tire and begrudgingly replace the valve stem and sensor but not the tire. They claimed it came from the factory if we didn't do that

I was on my third Honda which was a hybrid. The hybrid battery went bad down to just a little over 50 % which turned the car into an acceleration slug. Honda would not replace the battery even though it was supposed to still be under warranty (a little over 50,000 miles. Battery was supposed to be warranted for at least 100,000 miles.) The dealer apologized, but American Honda said no. Battery had to be lower than 50%. They would replace at a cost over $8,000.00 I already could not accelerate safely to get on to the freeway. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A HONDA, AGAIN. Old Hondas used to be good. Not any more.

Honda replaced the transmission at no charge for him but Chrysler/Dodge who had the same transmission told their customers no coverage, your problem. @LGPanthers1 the engine and transmission in a car are essentially the horse drawn portion for the carriage itself. If either has a problem, in this case faulty engine rod bearings that could potentially lead to the engine blowing up, it’s basically a horseless carriage that has little to no reliability. Yes, every car manufacturer has their share of problems, engine problems among them. It’s just unheard of with Honda, since they generally do have a good reputation for making some of the best engines in the world

Our 2020 Corolla started burning oil at 50,000 miles, a little less then a quart every thousand miles. I took it to the dealer to do an oil consumption test. At 1,150 miles into the test the low oil indicator came on, a little short of the 1200-1500 miles for the test. Took it back to the dealer. Tech said the the Toyota oil consumption spec a quart per 1,000 miles. Since consumption was slightly less dealer said there was nothing they could do. We have never had a Toyota that burns oil are pretty disappointed in Toyota. Also, I can't imagine burning this much oil over the life of the vehicle is going to be good for the catalytic converter.

Eons ago we got our learners Permit at age 14 and full license at 15. So after turning 17 you had 2 years of driving. Plus an extra year driving with another driver. It was a big deal to get your full driver's license. Basically nobody waited years later to get your driver's license. So at age 15 was doing deliveries by car so you racked up many miles experience. Drum brake era. No brakes going through flooded roads so pump the brakes and drive slowly.

Idk about Honda, but KIA uses a precision tool that moves the rod bearing up and down at TDC using compressed air and vacuum through the spark plug hole. With this you can measure clearance in the bearings to thousands of an inch and properly diagnose faulty ones. I'm sure Honda has a similar tool.

Dealers (or the techs) really have no reason to deny these Honda engine recall claims. The service center still gets paid by Honda for their labor for replacing the engines. So it's additional business for the dealer to replace the engines. They might get a lower rate, true, but its not nothing, and as long as it's an experienced tech doing the work, they can have them out in no time, and still make money.

My 2010 Honda Accord i-Dtec mk8 has been nothing but trouble, predominantly because of it's DPF and EGR system. Every review and article raved about the build quality, the superb engine (one of their best ever?!) and the value of added extras. It's been one of the worst cars I've owned, with over £1000 in repairs in my first year of ownership. I'm learning to distrust Honda buzz. Was a Honda tech now I’m with Acura. Those connecting rod bearings r a serious issue. Got at least 5 customers a day coming in or calling for the concern. Mechanics hate doing recall work cus of pay and they’ll say they checked it and ship the car if the engine light isn’t on. It’s a scam really. For me I just always recommend to replace the bearings if I get a vehicle that qualifies for the recall. I won’t ship and car and get a comeback a month later cus I said it’s okay cus the engine light ain’t on yet.

Myself and two friends had 1985 Hilux trucks which ate 2.5 qts of oil every 3K. Toyota said "within specs" and wouldn't touch them. I wouldn't touch their product again. They had a bad batch of rings which didn't hug the cylinder wall enough letting oil into the combustion chamber. One friend walked in front of Toyota of Carlsbad for a week with a sign reading "my truck consumes 2.5qts of oil every 3K oil change". He got a new shortblock. My 2005 Pilot has 260K on it and is just now using 1/2 qt of oil every 5K. I'm looking at a 2015 CRV with the 4 cylinder and a real automatic.

In regards to the question to Scotty about the maintenance light on the corolla. I have a newer corolla (newer than a 2012) and the maintenance light comes on 5,000 miles after it was last reset, not every 15,000 miles. Scotty is wrong about the mileage. I'm pretty sure that all the newer corolla's (including my Dads previous 2005 corolla) are set up for synthetic oil and that it comes on 5,000 miles after it was last reset. When you get your oil changed a lot of places are supposed to reset that light and so its set up for oil changes/regular basic maintenance. He is totally correct though that nothing is wrong with your car when that light comes on, but it doesn't come on every 15,000 miles, its usually every 5,000 miles at least on the newer toyotas. Also, the way he describes to reset it is very true on probably all toyotas. I know how to reset mine even though I don't do it myself and I don't change my oil myself and pay a place to do it. But figured I'd put that out there. I know Scotty would never advise anyone to change their oil every 15,000 miles. I know I never would.

I was doing some research for a friend who has one and from what I found Jeep (and thus FIAT) are aware that the console system is prone to electronic failure and malfunction and will NOT cover it under warranty even though it is a KNOWN manufacturing quality issue.... And they also won't address the issue at the manufacturing level because brand new Renegades are still being sold with the issue. The only way to fix it is a super expensive complete removal of the console and everything it's connected to. Needless to say I told my friend to sell his as fast as possible if he could and get something else.
