Terrible nights sleep camping in some of the strongest winds we have camped in since living in our tent. Fredericksburg and the surrounding Texas Hill Country are still a must visit even with these winds! To escape the 30 mph winds during the day, we enjoy a tour at the White Ghost Ranch, exploring the Texas backroads, and having an amazing wine tour with Majesty Wine Tours.

A truck driver pulling a flatbed will put a twist in the straps to stop them from flapping. That could work on the corners of the rain fly and not hurt anything.

That's TX. We always had to stay prepared for high winds. And out in the scrub we had to keep our eyes open for wild pigs that can get as big as black bear.

When you get high winds while camping in a tent. The best thing I've found is to use ear plugs. Work like a charm. When camping in crowded campgrounds. You hear every sound from happy campers (drunks). I sleep like a baby.........

I live here in Llano you should check out Honey moon ranch it's off of 1431 about maybe 40 miles from where you are ...when you get there just stay on the main road they may come around to get money and they may not water on 3 sides of the camp sites big trees and green grass ....tables and a burn ring ....I was there this time of year 2 years ago no one came around at all...,,no one really knows about the place it's nice check it out ...u will enjoy

My Kodiak Canvas holds up to high winds great, but I would suggest taking down the batwing at night. You don't want a high gust to get under that and create a lift point to overturn your trailer.

We loved Fredericksburg when we spent a week there. There was so much to see and the German food in the town was awesome. We are South African originally and live in Deep South Texas. My husband speaks German so he enjoyed talking to the locals. He also enjoyed being able to drink a beer while walking around in the town. My favorite was the war museum and the little antique stores.

That wind flapping noise is the one problem with tents. I had a dime, yes a true DOME tent I bought in 1991 which did not flap. The sides of the fly came right down to the ground it was six sided. Two poles crossed in the middle, then two poles alone opposite sides. This is the configuration expeditions up Everest use where there is really serious wind and to lose your tent could spell death. Wikipedia has a very interesting history of Fredericksburg. 'Jus' one mo winery'. Great to have a designated driver take you from your secure campsite to the tasting rooms then back to your cozy campsite to sleep it off.

Actually, we just got back from San Antonio for a week and now back home in Mountain Home.

Check out botanist Ferdinand Lindheimer who lived in New Braunfels. He is known as the Father of Texas Botany ... identified and named Flora & Fauna. Interesting bit of History is about the Vineyards in Comal County (New Braunfels)..... After the Vineyards we devastated in France, it was learned that the Vines in Comal County were very hardy and were able to withstand the disease that killed the Vines in France. Thus, Lindheimer took part in shipping Comal County Root Stock to help save the Vineyards in France.

Glad you didn't get blown away with the wind. It can get pretty windy but most of the time it is usually nice. Glad you are able to see some of the sites in the hill country. Fredericksburg is cool but touristy. We usually go off season on a week day. Lots of cool stuff to see and do though. Really glad you made it to the Hill Country and hope you will consider coming back on another one of your adventures 😀👍

Becker Vinyard and Fall Creek have been some of the better wines in this texas wine corridor for a while…My business partner is a rancher from the Rocksprings area, and we used to haul goats to Mason and go to Fredericksburg all the time for drinks…there’s a couple good places for wine there..another thing that area is known for is raising lots of goat meat..y’all should give it a try sometime!

Have that same tent. If it want to secure it better stake it at a 45 degree angle from all corners and a 90 degree from the center poles. Seam tape All the seams for extra protection. I've had corners collapse several times.

Great video. Be glad you wasn't at Palo Duro or Caprock Canyons. We had 60+ moh wind gusts. Last time we camped in our tent out at Lake McClellan it was pretty windy with gusts around 35 mph. Our SUV tent held up like a champ but we were also awake all night with the flapping. A week later at another lake, straight line wind broke one of the bottom loops the pole goes into and collapsed the tent. Thankfully we were in the car at the time and not the tent.
