In this video, I will show you how to cut steel with a circular saw. You can use this quick tip for cutting sheet metal, steel square tubing, rebar, steel plate, steel pipe or any other type of steel! I used a thin angle grinder cutoff wheel/disk which I bought for $2 and it works really well. @Yonatan24
@Yonatan24 6 жыл бұрын
Have you tried cutting a metal rod in half with a rotary tool? It's always really hard since the diameter of the cutoff wheel is smaller than the rotary tool itself... BTW have you heard of a Foredom flex shaft? It's really cool, I just got one - it's a rotary tool, but you hang the motor over your workbench and there's a long flexible shaft that connects the motor to the hand piece/chuck. I still haven't tried using it to cut steel yet, but I was using it to carve some wood for a (failed) project and it's incredible!
@armandozapata7627
@armandozapata7627 6 жыл бұрын
Yonatan24 no i havent heard of it but i know they have extenses to rotary tools, even drills. Its so hard cutting rods because of the diameter(yes ur right). I just go the deepest i can cut all around then i snap it with my hands(and sometimes with help from my knee.)
@Yonatan24
@Yonatan24 6 жыл бұрын
Yup, it's like those extensions for a rotary tool, except that it's actually powered by a big, strong (but slower) motor. Also it has a foot pedal for controlling the speed, but I suppose you could add that to any power tool. I never tried snapping it with my hands, I like using a 6" (I think) hacksaw since it uses really thin blades so I can cut really fast with it, but the surface finish that it leaves isn't that good.

I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read kzfaq.infoUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

Wow. Reading these comments, makes me soooo happy that my dad taught me a lot of these valuable skills. I build my own targets, and target stands. I change my own oil, brake pads, rotors, ball joints, alternators, shocks, etc. I've even freed up the servo, on my truck, when the vents stopped changing locations. I can cut metal, weld, do carpentry work, or basically anything "manly". I do my own wiring, plumbing, and repair work, of pretty much any kind. I even do my own gunsmithing. These comments really tell me a lot about the "city people", and how inept they are at everything. Anything beyond changing a light bulb, and most of these people would be LOST. It severely BLOWS MY MIND! I'm very thankful that I grew up in a rural environment, so I wouldn't feel so "useless". Even if I'm not sure how to do something, I tackle it anyways. I bet I could move to the city, and make a FORTUNE just doing simple "handyman" tasks for people. The primal instincts of the city men's wives would kick in, and they would wanna kick their little sissy butts out, and move ME in. NOTHING turns a woman on more than a real man, that can FIX things. LMAO I always get a good laugh, when I read the comments on videos like this. It tells me just how "feminine" American men have become. lol Is there any testosterone left, in these men!!?????

Angle Grinders are spinning at 10,000+ RPM NEVER defeat the safety guard. In fact, OSHA rules prohibit it. And you are asked to leave the worksite. ALWAYS clamp metal when you cut it. You need a full face shield and safety glasses underneath the shield. The shield alone offers little protection. Always orient the grinder so that the angular momentum is spinning away from you.

I love my angle grinder! For me I always clamp workpiece down not only to prevent kickback or flying metal, but also it allows me to hold grinder with BOTH HANDS. That’s why they have the screw on handle. My left hand holds and steers the handle while the body of the grinder is grasped in my right hand. This set up also allows me to freehand straight line cuts in sheet metal with better(not perfect) precision. Plus the angle grinder is fast! That being said, a hacksaw blade has a thinner kerf and gives me a cleaner edge. With a fresh 18 tooth per inch bimetal saw blade I can cut a 1/2” thick steel bar with little fuss. Use the whole blade in steady strokes ideally holding saw with both hands. One on handle one on frame.

I actually have an old angle grinder, but have never used it. I would prefer to start with a variable speed angle grinder, but it does have a knob/handle. So if I understand correctly, you're right handed, you hold the angle grinder to the left side of your body, and you hold the body with your right hand, and the handle with your left hand. I think I'd feel safe with the handle. I'll have to try it sometime, thanks.

היי. Great idea, but I'm a bit sketched out about using a cutoff disk in a tool it wasn't designed for. It spins slower, which might result in more force on the cutoff wheel, making it more likely to shatter. I'm totally just speculating... It would be interesting to get analysis from someone who designs rotary tools for a living. העברית שלי לא מספיק טובה לדבר על מכונות וכלים כאלה, אבל אני ראיתי את העברית על הגלגל החיתוך אז אני יודע שאתה מישראל ורציתי להגיד שלום :)

I suppose that could be a problem and if I'm not mistaken, cutting discs do wear out more at lower speeds, but I think its very unlikely that a cutting disc will shatter, I don't put too much pressure in it. And if it would ever shatter, it would be much safer because of the lower RPM and the protection from the circular saw guards from almost all directions. היי!

Unsafe because the blade isn't designed to be attached in the unsupported way that you have attached it. The axel is too small so you use a washer to hold it. This could put pressure on the disc in the wrong places. Waste of time because an angle grinder fits it's wheels in seconds and has the required torque to actually do the job quickly, efficiently and in turn safely. Making your own power tools is a recipe for hurting yourself when your invention suffers catasrophic failure. You say "something it's built for" it's not built for that, it's built for (and safety tested with) the attachments it was designed to use. You making things up is not what "it's built for"... listen to hundred people here telling you so ffs.

I've heard of people putting cutoff wheels for metal on their electric miter saws, I haven't tried it yet but seems to me like the rpm's would be too fast for metal cutting, maybe not, angle grinders spin fast. But those cutoff saws for metal that look like a miter saw, I think they spin at a slower rpm.
@Yonatan24

I believe abrasive wheels require much hugher RPMs than steel blades, around 3x, so the tools themselves should follow accordingly.

@@Yonatan24 Yes I'm going to research it. I have a nice older Skilsaw worm drive circular hand saw, usually used by framers and people that need a lot of torque when cutting. It spins at a slower speed than a direct drive circular saw but is much torquier, not sure how well it would work with a metal cutoff disk for steel but it had a ceramic tile cutting disk on it when I got it, think it still does. I haven't even used it yet, just plugged it in to see if it works so far.

Misleading video.. Unlike a saw, you'll feel the burn of a angle grinder long before it cuts you. You may loose a few layers of skin, but its nothing like the loss from a toothed saw blade.
