Is the defendant a bully or coward? According to your perspective he could be judged in this light? But I think frustration and humiliation of the defendant is another perspective. The defendant's honour and integrity were cruelly ridiculed by this woman. Moreover, the prevailing ethos of the past 40 years has given undue leniency to aggressive, disrespectful females to humiliate men mercilessly and to have the gall to make homophobic and transphobic comments without censure. I think the judgment in this case is fair due to mitigating circumstances. ⚖️🇮🇪

Men, real men, like yourself Terry, need to call out this injustice, wholly inappropriate sentencing. Regardless of prospect of success, the DPP must, in the public interest appeal the leniency of the sentence. Like you, I am a father to daughters and unconscionable that there would be no punishment here and the fact he is in the army should count against him even moreso, not act as mitigation. It also highlights the inconsistency of sentencing across a range of crimes, something needs to change and it is up to the nation to express its outrage, which in this case, it seems to be doing. My utmost respect to Natasha for not staying quiet after the sentence. Well done Terry, not the first time that you have called out how badly women are treated.

Because he could have still pled not guilty, just to be a dick and force his victim to take the stand to testify against him. So, in that context, it makes sense that he gets some credit for it. Also the fact he initially tried to blame the victim should more than evaporate away any of that credit. It was shitty judgement and it needs to be appealed.

Following such a ridiculous sentence, I can understand why some people would want to take the law into their own hands. If the legal system is to be respected, then the legal system must respect victims of crime.

To me it is very clear as to why the soldier was essentiallly let off. It was simply because he is a part of the state forces and the judge expressed his deference to that. Everything else was put aside. If the man had not been a member of the defense forces he would certainly have been jailed.

@@AfroGaz71 I would be inclinded to think it was again, the judge's own prejudice against a homeless man that favoured the perpetrator of the assault, who undoubtedly came from what would be (wrongly) considered a "respectable" background. I believe the courts always, when possible, show deference to those unwritten societal rules.

There's no way he will ever be allowed to continue serving. Not after this. Not after bringing complete shame and dishonor to his unit, his commanding officers, his entire group that are sworn to protect Ireland. There is ABSOLUTELY no way he can walk into Sarsfield Barracks in the same way ever again, knowing what he has done, as well as anyone else who occupies the same room as him. They will have heard of this, and you can be sure they will not welcome him back like a friend or a brother.

@Witchaven i forget off hand, but I'll find it again. There's lots of freaky s*** going on with judges in the irish courts. Another where an unnamed non national climbed into an elderly woman's bed and rubbed himself against her in a sexual manner. He received a suspended sentence, drink was blamed. There's multiple cases..just do your research. Not forgetting the pervert judge who molested several victims too...he was disabled, he obviously overwhelmed his victims with alcohol or something...of course, when he was appointed as a judge, people came forward.

I'm ashamed to have been unaware of this epidemic in our own country. Very saddened, heartbroken for all those who have been let down in this way. I'm in my 70's. I should have known. I'm greatful to Natasha for opening so many eyes to the horrific extent of these miscarriages of justice. Enough is enough! It has to stop now. This judge needs to be answerable for his ineptitude.
