Test rolling of the Tesker Model 740 2-die thread roller. The 740 can roll up to 12" diameter parts using 340,000 lbs of rolling force. Video shows some initial setup steps, followed by the rolling of a 4.5" X 1.5 TPI single start acme in 1045 CDS. Video also briefly shows the included bar handling system provided for this customer.

Yes, it is a pretty versatile operation. You are correct, no cutting here, just deforming/rearranging the metal to form the threads. We make machines that can roll threads on a 24" diameter blank.

This stock started out somewhere in-between the major and minor diameters of the desired thread. Sizing for this type of thread is usually focused on the pitch diameter. For the same diameter blank, decreasing the pitch diameter will increase the major. The part typically grows both in diameter and length.

That's interesting using a roller for support. I used to set up and run an old Reed B-112, and it had a carbide, flat blade for a support. My employer is currently looking for a thread rolling machine, I will relay your engineering excellence to them.

I would imagine that the bar that is being formed would also grow in length. Also, the threads would be a lot stronger being that they are being in a way forged instead of being cut.

I didn't know thread rolling could be achieved in diameter sizes and forms this big. Will it make larger sizes? No metal is being cut/machined, right? It's being squashed/ deformed into the thread shape. Impressive. Thanks for posting

Similar to cold rolling/forming? What about the mechanical strengths, grain structure and geometrical accuracy?

Is the material growth calculated to achieve major diameter or are they full form rollers meaning the bar stock will lengthen only?
