I think NHTSA is doing everything it needs to do to regulate auto pilot and more. Despite your loaded language, this is a much more debatable topic. Even if your highest value is minimizing number of lives loss on the road, arguably overregulation now causes more deaths in the future because it stifles innovation and gets in the way of data collection, which is necessary to train self driving systems.

Thanks again. Well, none of this is happening in Europe, where self-driving features have to be reviewed in advance of being release to the public. IMO, that is a much better way. I appreciate your comment!

@@theoriginalaiguide And how many people are dying each year on the road because we are forcing humans to drive instead of letting the empirically safer AIs drive? Too many, by my approximation. The goal of the regulation shouldn't be to stifle improvements. The goal should be to minimize injury, loss of life, and property damage. And as far as I can tell, regulation is getting in the way of driver assistance that would otherwise statistically reduce those things.

You falsely claim that FSD States that you were able to take your eyes off the road. Anyone who knows anything about this knows that this is absolutely false. Anyone who has ever driven FSD knows that this is absolutely false. The people who have driven for a long time have lots of good experiences with its effectiveness begin to believe that it's safe to take your eyes off the road despite it being illegal. Just like experience drivers think that it's safe To not use your blinkers when nobody is around despite it being illegal.

Thank you. I appreciate your comment. Yes, that was my point. The literature says (in the fine print) that you have to pay attention at all times. But the fact is that people aren't doing it. If you are paying attention, how can you run over a motorcycle and drag the guy to his death? The driver is facing felony manslaughter exactly because he was not following the rules. Unfortunately, people don't pay attention to a lot of rules as you say.

@@theoriginalaiguide But the problem is not in regulation. No amount of regulation or laws will ever completely erase human error.
