Thats actually a user prompted error from messing with the headlight settings (Tesla unlike other OEMs, and strangely so, allows users to configure each headlight individually). Just entering headlight alignment (without making changes) in the ‘service’ part of the menu seem to have fixed it for me a few times on my Model 3. Takes about a minute. The Model 3 facelift headlights with lens (2021-2023) are simply outstanding. The ones before that were just reflector headlights, they weren't good. Now in the Model 3 Highland they seem to be reflector headlights again. These can also no longer project the logo onto the wall. I've driven the Highland at night. No comparison to the 21-23 lights. Definitely a clear downgrade, especially in the high beam … I also drove the 2023 Model S at night. There the light is very similar to the Model 3 2021-2023.

Night and winter driving are my #1 reasons for enjoying Model 3 and Model Y. They've removed the fog lights and replaced the indicator stalks with touch buttons in the Highland, which makes this car a hard sell in Ireland and the UK. If the headlights prove weaker than those on the 2022-2023 Model 3, it's a deal-breaker for me and I'm getting a different EV this time. You can see it very clearly on the parking lot and occasionally while driving. While driving our Model 3 Highland myself I had the strong impression that the low beam behaves differently when in auto mode and are a lot brighter. That would make sense, because the car assumes, if you care to override auto mode, perhaps really low might be the safe bet?

I don't know about your prior model 3, but my current Model 3 (Dec 2022 model) headlights work perfectly. Also the auto headlights. I hear the new highland is turning the high beams on randomly. You can see that in Bjorn's range test of the M3 Long Range latest refresh. Highland is the name of the project for the lates refresh which personally is a downgrade in key functionality areas like parking (USS), autopilot (new refresh model having inconstancy), and auto sensor detection (wiper, lights, and auto fwd and reverse). Since the Christmas update there have been so many OTA "updates" fixing bugs which is definitely not related to the "old upgrade" model.

Most of the time it is even better without stalks because you can do all with the left hanf. In a roundabout similar except if you take the 3rd or 4rd exit in a narrow one, than you simply use the right hand to exit. It's always on the same spot. I think Lower beams are nice. On my 2023 Model Y I get the impression that the beams in the side are a bit too high and blinding cars, pedestrians and animals in the side of the road. Especially blinding cars when driving in multiple lanes and doing turns.

@@luckycasado1790 it was too high and left even in low beams, so I went all the way down and right, and raised it step by step. I tested it on roads and highways nearby, until visibility was ok and the lights not getting above the rails in the middle of the highway. On-comers not flashing anymore was also a sign it was low enough. With the L-shape of the beam and the position of the lamp the LHS headlamp cannot go far enough to the right, you get easily blinded by the LHS headlamp on all 3’s and Y’s.

I share your pain. Model 3 and Model Y are the worst on that front. My daily is a Clio from 04, so it has a low driving position compared with the crossovers and SUVs from nowadays, but I don't think that's enough to justify this. Also any freaking Peugeot blinds me everytime.

I have the M3H for about 1 month and trust me, the blinker buttons on the steering wheel are in the beginning a bit confusing with a small learning curve but after some weeks you will get used to it and then you'd find yourself being a fool for commenting nonsense without trying. Also the model S and X don't have stalks either, you don't see those people complaining at all. Just adapt people, time for changes!

I though removing ultrasonic parking sensors was bad. Recent attemps to cheap out on more things like removing stalks, cheaper headlights makes the car even harder to drive. I really hope other manufacturers will catch up on the efficiency and sofware.

stalks cost more. but the sad part is that they seemingly didn't even bother to make a good UI with buttons. you could make the buttons easy to find by feel and maybe put the left and right indicator buttons on the left and right sides of the wheel. that way you would never confuse them.

I have a 2021 LR with the matrix light sources. Seen as how poor the new lights on the HL model are in comparison, I am now convinced, after living in hope since 2021, that old models will never get the matrix functionality enabled: Surely Tesla would not want the old car to have much better lights. Indeed, it seems light and day difference between the models for the spread of the lights. The lack of stalks probably means no sale for me personally. Really surprised how badly the implementation seems to work. If the matrix was enabled the button would not be needed, so perhaps that is the master plan...

Thanks Bjørn, looking at all finer details on the M3 re-fresh are what EV nerds want! My initial feelings are being confirmed more & more, that the M3H update is retrograde in too many areas. Stalks gone, fiddly screen sliders, tiny little buttons in awkward places, bings & bongs every time you pick your nose, soft suspension, tyre downgrade, less-sharp handling, lower max speed, etc etc, and now lighting down-grade. I'm waiting for the complete holistic picture, but getting a distinct feeling that driver involvement is gradually being relegated to that of a mere passenger. Which is Elon's ultimate dream anyway. I love my leased 2022 M3LR, but feel that model might be the apogee for the M3 now.

My last employer gave me a 2022 M3LR, now I’m driving the highland. To me it seems as if the new headlights are WAY worse. Less spread and less light overall. The highlands only benefits are the better comfort and the ventilated seats. Last Tesla for me, next one will be a BMW.
