Thanks to Skibotnia, Ian, MrMoonX, Rune, and PKTV for pointing out that the standard carpet floor mats will be included in the M3 RWD for most markets outside the US going forward (Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and China confirmed). Thanks to Matt for pointing out the different range estimates that will be displayed based on the range standard. The ranges displayed in the video are the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) range estimates used in the US, while the rest of the world will use the European Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) standard. Thanks to SacAccountant for pointing out the importance of the price differences and recent price changes. The current price of the M3 LR in the US is $50,990 after the $1,000 price increase in November 2021, and the current price of the M3 RWD is $44,990 (currently $6,000 less than the LR) after multiple recent price increases in October and November 2021 from $39,990 to $41,990, then $41,990 to $43,990, then finally $43,990 to $44,990. Thanks to BIGKickz 23 for clarifying the rear heated seats and heated steering wheel for the RWD. So all M3 LR and M3 RWD going forward (November 2021 and beyond) are going to come standard with rear heated seats and heated steering wheel. For some M3 RWD owners who received their M3s in 2021, they'll have the heated steering wheel hardware installed and have the option to pay $300 to activate the heated steering wheel and rear heated seats as part of a software upgrade. And for most M3 RWD owners who received their M3s in early 2021 and before, the heated steering wheel hardware won't be there, but they'll still have the option to activate the rear heated seats for $300 as part of a software upgrade. Thanks to J P and Ian for pointing out how price differences between the M3 RWD and M3 LR will vary depending on which market you're in. For example, the price difference between the M3 RWD and the M3 LR in the US is currently $6,000 USD, but in Germany (Deutschland), the price difference between the M3 RWD and M3 LR is going to be significantly greater at 9000€ or ~$10,000 USD. In New Zealand, the price difference between the M3 RWD and M3 LR is also going to be significantly greater at NZ$ 16,000 or ~$10,785 USD, and the LR will not be eligible for New Zealand's Clean Car Discount. Thanks to Drone.Camera.Action for pointing out the environmental advantages that LFP batteries have over other lithium chemistries like NCA. On top of requiring less energy and costs to produce and recycle, LFP batteries use non-toxic materials and are less likely to negatively impact the environment if the battery is not recycled properly. Thanks to KrankyB for pointing out and providing detailed information on the environmental and humanitarian impacts the batteries have. Not only are the RWD LFP batteries more environmentally friendly and easier to recycle, but the nickel and cobalt used in the Long Range NCA batteries are more difficult to mine and often come from politically unstable regions of the world. As KrankyB states, this could be a significant deciding factor for those of us looking to move to an EV for environmental reasons. Thanks to Jehan, St eil, and Matti for pointing out that charging speeds should be referenced in kilowatts. I erroneously referenced the charging speeds in kilowatts an hour when it should have been kilowatts in the video. Thanks to Rune for pointing out that the M3s delivered in Norway and across Europe are going to come with the same onboard chargers and charge at the same rate regardless of trim. www.tesla.com/en_EU/support/home-charging-installation/onboard-charger Thanks to srspower for pointing out the different dynamic dynamics and how the RWD and its lighter weight makes it more fun to drive on certain roads. Much appreciated guys.

Sound system or quicker acceleration is not a deciding factor for most people specially when it comes to EVs. Considering that, the current price difference of 9k usd between SR and LR is not justified.

This is the best video I have seen comparing both Model 3 trims. Great job. I think a lot of it comes down to not which is better but what is better for each individual’s use case. We don’t drive more than 40 miles per day on average, and we charge at home. The occasional long trips we will take, I’ve already mapped out on Tesla‘s map and I see that there are plenty of charging stations along the way to support the RWD version. And regarding the stereo, I watched an online review that showed that even though the premium stereo is better, Tesla’s standard stereo is still head and shoulders above most other car manufacturers and certainly better than the car that we currently have. So we have no regrets having ordered the RWD and can’t wait to get it next month!

Thanks so much Kermit. Really appreciate the kind words and awesome to hear that you're getting your RWD soon! And that's a great point about each individual's use case. The general consensus seems to be go for the LR when you're on the fence between the two, but after going through all the differences and features, the RWD really does check all the boxes for a lot of us like in our cases

Thanks so much. Great points and definitely makes sense. I'm ashamed to admit I haven't done a road trip in my M3 yet haha. Interesting to see the standard doesn't have fog lights. I've been debating back and forth after watching prices drop on getting base Model 3 versus a used Long Range and that's definitely a point for it. I'd really love to see practical tests/advice on RWD vs AWD Tesla in snow/ice/rain, but I think at the end of the day, I'm just going to have to not compromise and try to get a M3LR used for a price I can afford (and hope it has FSD as well). Would be really cool if I could definitively find out, though, if RWD is fine for bad weather and hills since it would save me money (though I do admittedly like the extra range of M3LR).

excellent review especially on battery types, very informational. Question: in an extremely cold winter climate in a country like Canada where the subzero temp. can exist for many days at a time, LFP battery poses a severe disadvantage over NCA or not ?
@CasualTeslaFan
@CasualTeslaFan 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Chieu! And yeah definitely gonna see a dip in range and performance along with significantly slower charging in below freezing temps, but as long as you precondition (warm) the battery before driving and charging, it should be fine. The NCA battery is going to be affected by below freezing temps too, but the main thing is to never charge a cold LFP or NCA battery to avoid damage and Tesla makes that easy with the ability to precondition or warm the car from the app before heading out or charging. Hope that helps!

Great video, what i would like to know and see is a bit more comparison on the way they drive and handle. The price difference in my country is 9k €, so my brain says RWD, but I am not sure if it will be enough fun to drive, especially with that (a bit) less powerful motor in the 2022 model. Thats why I would like a bit more explanation regarding that part. It is also hard to pick a version when booking a test drive, at least in Germany. Thanks! Keep up with great videos!

Thanks so much Marko! Really appreciate it. And yeah really tough choice. I don't have much experience in driving performance cars, but I'll do my best to describe my driving experience with both. The LR acceleration made me go "Wow!" and scared my wife and others in the car when I slammed on the pedal. There's like a bigger "boom?" feeling/rush and I get pushed back into my seat quicker when I slam on the pedal for the LR. Definitely a big acceleration and speed difference. But other than that, I really didn't notice much of a difference in the handling and performance for everyday driving. Both the RWD and LR felt quick and fun while driving like how I normally would, and I didn't regret getting my RWD after driving around the LR for a few days even though I noticed the slower acceleration and speed. My opinion is the RWD may be slower, but still fun to drive. Hope that helps!

In Canada, went with Rear Wheel drive version as it's 15K CAD difference as of June 2022. That's a lot! And you can't normally charge the dual motor one to 100 percent, and I think in that case, the range isn't a huge difference. Weather is definitely a factor as it's cold here but as a daily driver who needs 100 kms in total, it'll do the job. Have a MY dual motor as a lease so that may be my winter daily and I give the wife the 3 😏

So can you get the self driving mode on these two options? It’s the only thing you didn’t cover I’m new to Tesla trying to learn
@CasualTeslaFan
@CasualTeslaFan 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny, sure thing I'll do my best to explain Tesla AutoPilot and Full Self-Driving which you can get on both the RWD and the Long Range. AutoPilot - Included for all Teslas built after October 2016. So both the RWD and Long Range Tesla Model 3s are gonna come standard with AutoPilot and won't cost you extra. What AutoPilot is able to do for you is after you turn it on is keep you in your lane and speed up or slow down automatically for you based on the cars around you. So AutoPilot won't change lanes or turn for you, but it's able to keep you in the same lane the whole time and automatically stop and go with the cars around you. It's not complete self-driving, but it's a cool feature I use a lot on the highway or in rush hour traffic. Full Self-Driving - Full Self-Driving is what people are thinking of when they're thinking of Teslas driving on their own and doing everything for you. It costs $12,000 extra when you buy a Tesla or $199.00 a month if you decide to go the subscription route. We're talking auto lane change, autopark, being able to come to wherever you are, and the other things a car can do when it can drive itself. The only catch is that it's still under development and not real full self-driving where it's able to drive on its own while you sleep or look at your phone. For both AutoPilot and Full Self-Driving, you still have to pay attention and keep your hands on the wheel to be ready to takeover at any time. Here's a link to Tesla's webpage that goes more in depth into both AutoPilot and Full Self-Driving but yeah hope that helps and always feel free to ask more questions! www.tesla.com/support/autopilot

I’m debating whether I should get the sr or lr model 3. I don’t live in snowy conditions so not having awd won’t be an issue, my work commute is less than 10 minutes so range doesn’t matter and I don’t really speed so that mph difference won’t bother me. I guess my real question would be is 67 more miles worth it for my kind of situation?
@CasualTeslaFan
@CasualTeslaFan 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy, so the general consensus seems to be to go for the LR when on the fence since no one regrets getting the LR over the RWD while some have regretted getting the RWD over the LR. But in your situation, I think the RWD will definitely cover everything you need. Most LR users seem to charge to a max of 80% to 90% usually, and coupled with the range loss, the range of a LR charged to that amount will probably be similar to the range of a RWD charged to 100% after a few years or so. And even though I felt the significant speed and acceleration difference between the RWD and LR, I still love my RWD and enjoy driving it every time. Hope that helps!
@john9663
@john9663 Жыл бұрын
Would like to see a 'real world' mileage/range comparison. RWD is lighter, and slightly more efficient; you can charge up to 100%, but it has a smaller battery, charges slower, and battery pre-conditioning is less efficient (relies on heat from its one motor vs. two in LR). So in the end, which gives you the most range and the shortest time charging on a trip, uses the fewest watt-hours, and therefore has the least cost ????

Since we own two Tesla's I am impressed by my wife 2022 LFP battery. Her newer battery does way better on a day to day basis. Even in a hard cold winter. When she drove to work, and parked outside the hospital for her 12 to14 shift as a nurse, she lost, at most, 2%. But she charges to 100% as we sleep. I would go LFP . I ordered a 2022 LR, but I would prefer the LFP. I have a 2021 SR+ and have seen range lose from 263 new to 248. Rather large lose. By this analysis, this new battery will so much better

@@CasualTeslaFan I agree with you 100%, but I think Telsa is considering performance on the more expensive models. My wife's 2022 has a half second slower acceleration time. For her, this means little. She can pass without any issues. I have to admit, I do like the passing power on the few occasions when someone tires to speed up to stop me from passing. That has only happened maybe three times in the last year, but I think the LFP would do fine. My hope is since the price of nickel has gone up so much, Telsa may push out the LFP to the LR, at least. My goal for the car is not racing stop lights with HP cars. I would like a point A to B goal with less charge times. I guess we will see in time.

@@ken90004 Great points and definitely. We only do about 10K miles per year and have been driving a 2019 Kia Niro EX EV (range 260-270) for three years and already knew the Model 3 RWD would be our next car. We ordered in August of 2021 before the price increases and turned down the first VIN# in late December and then got our delivery on March 18, 2022. Tesla honored the August 2021 ordered price and we got our blue 2022 RWD with all the upgrades (heated steering wheel, all heated seats, LFP battery, lithium-ion 12 volt, Ryzen chip, etc) and we are super happy with our new car and its advanced tech and wonderful phone app. We have a level 2 Juicebox Pro at home and my spouse gets free charging at work and we maintain the battery at or near 100% on a daily basis. We did consider other EVs including the Kia EV 6 but we knew Tesla's charging network was much larger and would be much more reliable than other EV charge stations so it really was a no-brainer. Additionally, we don't need to use a third party app to plan routes which was a bit of pain with the Kia. The ability to know where your next charging session would be and how many were available and working makes life so much simpler living with an EV. Thanks for this video because until I saw it I didn't realize all of our seats were heated.

Here in the UK it would have to be the M3 LFP. We don't have the places to go or the weather extremes to justify the dual motor. Plus the price hike is huge to get that extra motor, a bit more range and an active sub. It is also a shame that Tesla do not offer a "factory fit" sound system upgrade. But it does sound like the SR may cover everything you need so far. How do you feel about the following? - Speed and Performance - Do you need speed? (SR is good, but LR is significantly faster and quicker to accelerate) - AWD - Do you live in a place that gets a lot of rain and snow? - Sound System - Do you listen to a lot of music? (SR sound system is good, but LR's is significantly better) Those seem to be the top 3 factors after range and price that people consider and might help with your decision.

Slower DC charging is not an issue to me as 99% of my charging is slow (1.76kW) AC home charging anyway, but if the range issue is bad in cold weather, that could well be. I currently exceed the EPA estimate on my LFP in the current -2C - 3C temps we're getting as of late and speeding, with most of my commute being highway. Hey Jim, yup that's right and it looks like some folks have already started accepting delivery of 3's and Y's with the new Ryzen chips and 12V Li-Ion batteries. Planning on ordering a LR M3?

@@CasualTeslaFan We ordered a Model 3 LR on Jan 6th and have an expected arrival date of Feb 15th to March 15th, so hopefully our model 3 LR (we live in California) will come with the new Processor and new batteries.

does RWD come with orange headlights and Long Range with White headlights? or is it white headlights for both?
@CasualTeslaFan
@CasualTeslaFan 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Iskander, it's gonna be white headlights for both. The orange lights you see for the RWD in the video are just the orange sidemarker lights on the bottom where the fog lights would be if the RWD came with fog lights. The Long Range has them too but it's harder to see because of the fog lights. Hope that helps!

Definitely makes sense. I haven't really run into any issues with my RWD during the winter yet but would have loved to get AWD for the peace of mind too

Excellent video. Thanks The long range performance model 3 must have just became available again. The long range (none performance) is still grayed out and can not be ordered. For roughly the last 6 months all the long range options were grayed out. The difference is $11000 dollars.

Thank you Dick! And wow yeah really surprised they were unavailable for so long

Very interesting. Seems like the battery life is the main issue if 70% is the warranty threshold after 100K.

Yeah will definitely be interesting to see how the batteries hold up and if Tesla makes any changes

What charging cable and attachments (120v vs 240v and an adapter for non-Tesla chargers) come with each version?
@CasualTeslaFan
@CasualTeslaFan 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Shane, both versions are gonna come with a 20 foot cable, 120v adapter, and an adapter for non-Tesla chargers (J1772). Here's also a link to a great page breaking it all down along with all the optional adapters that are available. Hope that helps! - www.tesla.com/support/home-charging-installation/mobile-connector

@@CasualTeslaFan Thanks! I'm trading in a 2019 RWD for a 2022 LR. I'm going to try and keep the 240v adapter that came with my 2019 RWD.

@@shanemignogna5133 Nice! That's gonna be a sweet upgrade. And thanks had no idea previous models used to come with a 240v adapter. Feels a little cheap to not include those anymore but love my M3 so can't complain haha

If the difference was only $US6000 between the two in my country (NZ) then I would go for the LR. However the LR doesn’t qualify for the government grant being just above an arbitrary value (which is dumb, because an EV is an EV, right?) so it ends up being $US16000 more expensive. Good clear comparison though, thank you. Oh by the way, the RWD gets floor mats in Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK. Maybe it’s a RHD thing.

Thanks so much Ian. That's great info and I'll make sure to add that to the pinned comment so others are aware. And wow just saw that the LR is priced just above that $80,000 price to be eligible for the "clean car discount" in New Zealand. I wonder what the reasoning was for that random price limit

I got the standard range didn't want to pay 6k for a better sound system. I charge at home so didn't need extra range. I understand the price bump for 80 miles more.

Nobody ever got the LR and later had buyer’s remorse for not getting the SR.

Great point. There may be some who bought the LR and realized the SR was sufficient, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone regret getting the LR over the SR so far.
