2013 Tesla Model S is confused and believes the rear hatch is open when it’s not. In this video I successfully replace the rear hatch latch mechanism and eliminate the three beeps alarm error fault message. The Rear Hatch Latch part number for a 2013 Model S is 6006654-00-B. I paid $60 for the new part from the TESLA service center in January of 2023.
There are decent KZfaq videos from others regarding replacement of the Rear Hatch Actuator Motor, (which doesn't fix this particular problem).

The switch is integral to the latch nechanism. After you remove the actuator, you csn verify switch function by closing trunk manually with the rubber bumpers screwed in. This will rule out a bad latch switch and verify actuator is the issue as most have experienced.

If it recognizes the truck as closed, is it the actuator then?

Have the same problem on my 2021 S, just out of warranty. How the heck did you get them to sell you a part? I wanted to buy a hood ( hail damage) They said no, try tesla collision center, they said maybe the service center. The phantom trunk open alarm wont allow cruise or fsd to operate either.

Thanks for the comment Patrik. A bit of a crude video by today's standards as it's only my 2nd KZfaq video ever. This 2013 Model S now has 248,000 miles on it and we are very happy with it despite things like this occasionally go wrong. It has fewer maintenance dollars per mile than my Dodge Dakota with only 180,000 miles on that.

@@flyboy8313 Wow, that's great man. I'm used to own and drive Subaru, so that was a huge difference to the Tesla when it comes to maintenance. One year is like ten Subaru-years! I just have a lemon I guess. I'm at 125,000 miles with mine so far.

@@freas8520 Same problem with my lemon Model S too. Out of 80 cars I've owned, it gets first prize as the worst car I have ever owned. Tesla's are not what they should be. I had less problems with my Mercedes ML. All that ever needed besides the servicing was an alternator in the same time period, the Tesla has need a myriad of repairs. Now, I can not even lock the car because of this problem.

@@Treadmill-Repairs I managed to lock the car after i unplugged the latch mechanism, because I had to remove it to see the part number. Pulled two ropes from the hatch and around rear seats to "lock" it in closed position.
