Tesla Service Center quoted over $1000 to retrofit the thermal management. Turn's out it just needed a new actuator. Silly service center.

The reason that the louvers need to be closed when not in use is to improve aerodynamics and therefore increase range.

Do you know the part number for the actuator? I'm having an issue with my louvers as well.

The day after you posted this, I happened to find it. I have the same actuator that has failed, as well as the louver in the front is broken. I was wondering if all of those actuators were the same! Second question is, can you 'move' the motors to their start position, and what is the 'home' position for those? I can see that situation failing a few different ways.. :)

Thanks for the video! Could you have just gone through the frunk if you took the lining out? It looks like that might be the easier method but I guess I'll have to give it a try when my actuator arrives. Also, did you have to do any calibrations to make sure the Louvre was working correctly?

the reason is to protect the radiators. stonechipping will cause them to break

Maybe it's just me but I really wish this trend of calling tools and car parts 'this guy' would go away. Appreciate the channel though.

No. I now know why it cost $1000 to fix. The plastic piece that this actuator turns broke off. I tried to glue it back, but the glue didn't hold. One needs to replace the whole air box and it's a PITA to get out. Oh, and the car's horn attaches to the air box. Not sure why they can't reuse the horn, but it makes (a little more) sense why they are quoting a new horn as part of the air box replacement
