Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! Landed on this video while desperately searching for an alternative to the included Tesla cover. Just got my new Model Y to use as a rep and that included cover was impossible to use. Thank goodness several of the retractable cover options I found were not compatible with the Teslas that come with a cover otherwise I would have purchased one by now.

you can pop up the back of the cover without reaching to the back. one-hand operation too. push it to the position at 0:12 and then use the same motion as 0:10.

I figured out this trick as well. It's still pretty inconvenient having to reach back there to get the back edge off of the magnets. The other thing I've found is that you can improve your chances of being able to fold it back on itself as you showed at the beginning. When you park, fold it back and then put a weight of some kind on it to keep it from flopping itself open again. That seems to stretch out the material a little and make it less likely to want to spring back to the fully extended position. All in all, this cover is not a good design.

Great idea! I only wish my 2021 even came with a cargo cover and I don't like the aftermarket versions. 😆

Finally, someone with common sense. The stock parcel shelf is awesome and folks that can’t figure it out are dim wits. Also, complete removal is easy too. Lift the back up, grab the front, pull, and slide it out. Simple. No lifting, twisting, wrestling, nonsense needed.

Only had MY 3 weeks. Had to run out to garage and try this!. Still a bit awkward and takes some maneuvering but helps a lot!. Wish it slid smoother ... i feel the design will show wear marks somewhere over time.

Tesla should pay you for doing their job. For those who want to remove it, just push the cover all the way back and it will disconnect from the track. If you accidentally disconnect it by pushing too far, then you can’t just pull it back up. You have to reach back to the back seat area, put your hands under the fold, and lift/wiggle it back up into place.

I got my MY about a month ago and I just removed it. I carry black fabric in the side pocket of the truck to cover stuff when needed. I spent 60k for this car and.. it is sad that this kind of small issues can not be resolved by Tesla, such a high tech comapny and we have to listen to how other owners got got their Model Y fixed

When the cover is all way back, it can be even folded behind the seats, what I know.

I’m a little bit more interested in the cargo containers you have pressed up against the backseat and the mat on the bottom. That combo looks great. Can you share what products those are?

The parts catalog has two parcel shelves and I'm trying to figure out which one you have, and which one is better, as I plan to retrofit an older Fremont MOdel Y (2023 no parcel shelf) with this by replacing three parts. What kind of mats do you have?

Best is to not have a cover and leave nothing back there. If a thief sees a cover they will break the small side window to fold the rear seat forward to check if u have a anything back there. Same with model 3 they break small window to fold rear seat down to see inside the trunk. Best to carry nothing and leave read seats folded down. Put item in lower rear trunk or in the frunk.

Im sorry but but a bad solution is a bad solution - lets be real this is the low IQ solution from the Tesla Engineers. It is just really really BAD even if we try to do the best of a BAD solution. Still thanks for your very good effort 🙂
