July 31st, 2021 at Bradenton Motorsports Park (1/4mile).
Just three days after taking delivery of our first (of 3) Plaids, it was out for more drag strip action!
Running on the stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (21”), while racing against the fastest full-bodied cars we could find.
Race #, ET, MPH, Reaction, 60-ft W/L Margin, Vs
1. 10.726, 131.81, 0.110, 1.53, Win by 0.0266 vs Trackhawk
2. 10.990, 126.67, 0.180, 1.72, Win by 0.0305 vs Lambo
3. 10.704, 135.55, 0.584, 1.54, Win by 0.0221 vs GT-R
4. 9.89, 142.73, 0.235, 1.58, Win by 0.0491 vs Redeye
5. 9.721, 141.40, 0.256, 1.57, Win by 0.0364 vs Redeye
6. 18.294, 122.77, 0.273, 1.80, Win vs Buggy thing (DNF)
7. 11.74, 99.32, 0.212. 1.54, Win by 0.3323 vs RX-7
All races in “Plaid Mode” (NOT “Drag Strip” mode and did not use launch control for any pass). None of these 7 passes were “flat out”, as I was lifting off the accelerator on each run so that I’d just barely beat the other car. (To stay within this Dragstrip's rules.)
Don’t be confused by the ET’s. The Tesla crossed the Finish Line first in every race, just as I intended (to win by the narrowest of margins).
Note: ET’s always exclude Reaction Times! The time from Green Light to the finish line is the total of RT + ET. ET is the time from actually crossing the Start Line to crossing the Finish Line, irrespective of the driver's reaction to the light.
Thanks to Matt (Jeep), Baker (Lamborghini Huracán), Jon (GT-R), Ezekiel (Redeye Challenger), Mike (RX-7) and all other drivers for these races!

That second race with the Redeye had to be something to see in person. Very solid pass for the Challenger. Pretty hilarious you are still partly feathering it to stay barely ahead. That is hilarious you had the hatch up lol. Seemed he turned it up a bit for the second run. He must have been scratching his head during that pass, when you were still pretty much dead even with him.

@@TeslaPlaidChannel I get the sense that (like your Model S Performance) he rarely gets beaten, running sub 10s. He would have been able to walk away from the Tesla Raven on demand. But then when he really gave it all of the beans in the 2nd race, and ran a 9.8 he probably thought that it was game over for you. I don't think that he could wrap his head around the idea that you now have so much extra power that you can simply choose to win at any point, and that your only consideration of speed was not getting kicked out for running too fast.

Back in the 80’s if you saw a 9 second car at the drag strip it was likely not street legal, or at least was probably unbearable to drive for long stretches on public roads. Now a four door family hauler (admittedly a very expensive one) can easily pull nines and do it in almost total silence. It’s only a matter of time before drag strips everywhere get quieter because it’s just not possible for internal combustion engines to compete with the electrics in these 1/4 mile races, and I believe serious racers are going to want to be competitive. As some who loves big block V8s it pains me to say it but these videos are proof that the future is here and if you can afford it, it’s a nice place to be.
@fry.master
@fry.master 2 жыл бұрын
Lets be real here though, this is a test and tune night where you aren't allowed to run a sub 10. There are PLENTY of 8s street cars out there, tons here in my state. They just don't go to these events unless actually testing something. If you took this thing to a real open track it would probably get gapped by most of the stuff there.

@@TurboWorld I don’t hang at race tracks anymore, got too much other stuff to do. Are these cars you’re taking about street legal? Do they have actual seats (not race seats) and air conditioners and stereos and Nav systems and moon roofs and stuff? You are right, plenty of cars are faster and you can make any car very fast if you want to put $$$ into it. But would you want to drive itanywhere more than 1/4 mile at a time? Would you girlfriend or wife be caught dead in it? My point is these new Tesla’s are way faster than most people who aren’t pro drivers can handle. Fast enough to get you kicked out of a lot of tracks. And you can drive them to the track and runs 9s, and then to work, to take your kids to school, church, wherever in total comfort. That is a whole new thing. I wish I could afford one. But I do love V8s and turbo cars too.
@TurboWorld
@TurboWorld 2 жыл бұрын
@@markbeasley1 Pfi speed has a you tube channel, Kenny Howard has a youtube channel with the 9 second uncaged volvo 4 cylinder turbo. To answer your question, all but one are race cars, one has ac and street comfort, I think, the nsx of Kyles, maybe(boosted boiz, PFI speed). I'm with you on full street , that's why my 505 verified dynoed 4 cylinder Volvo powered wagon has cold ac , full interior and I am struggling real hard with the fact I need to cage it for the speed it should go, at the track (but I suck at rowing the gears and operating the clutch right on the sticky. And so my car has failed three times at the track but outruns ferraris and other hotrods on the street.) . I can haul anything a suv can and pull anything a suv can, and it seats eight. Because of Volvo THAT tesla has seatbelts.The swedes actually cared about safety enough to innovate. Honestly i didn't build it to race, until recently with the ford Mountaineer rear end that i put under it. It wasn't until my wife was driving it coming back from the beach, that I fully understood that I needed to keep the build focused to Street car. She gapped some young dude and his girl who kept coming up beside her making noise on the highway, we were fully loaded with beach supplies and dog. Now not all wives would not want to be in my car with a turbo sitting out of the hood looking like a dildo in public. Until they felt the power and saw all the smiles and reactions it brings, everywhere it goes. and that's what personalizing your car is all about. All the plaids are the same soulless. Difference is what sells. I'm telling you Musk is missing out on me right now in his corner.LOL. I joke. I like how he interviewed those builders, of those awesome machines, and he gave credit where credit is due, because most of us like that couldn't afford to pay someone else to do it , so we built our own. Tesla has a specific clause I have heard that prevents you from servicing the vehicle or anything on it, is that correct information? if so, none of us will be driving them for that reason and we will build our gas cars to eventually gap by bus lengths with all the creature comforts pulling a tesla plaid, because that fact will keep them from getting faster at the same rate our gas cars are already at. See what I mean? I forgot to mention my buddy Cleetus Mcfarland or SRC , They both have wicked fast street cars,Other yt channels- But Cleetus has "mullet" which is an 100% street el camino I promise you No plaid don't want no smoke from, and they have ac in it, nav, and just did rocky mountain race week with it. It could literally pull a golf cart and put a greyhound bus length on that rc car, I mean that ev.But its not full interior and it's a all out street legal record holding racecar. The competition is fierce, you have no idea, he is a few seconds behind. literally, all the fast gas cars! 9 seconds is fast to me but not to the pros.. But man, like I said Props to him, because a day at the race track beats the hell out of talking shit behind a keyboard! So congrats and take care! i look forward to more conversations and videos with this kind Sir! and you as Well, twas a pleasure! *edit that elco "mullet just trapped 150 in the eighth and ran sevens in the quarter mile....Rear wheel drive, full body. They are the safest vehicles on the road, so probably not in most cases, but I don’t think we can say for sure unless there is data on 150mph collisions. Either way I think the rules should be more nuanced. So dumb that there is no distinction between a Tesla and a 50 year old muscle car. 150mph collision in a Plaid is probably safer than a 100mph collision in other vehicles.

What do bead lock tires do exactly ?
@TeslaPlaidChannel
@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
They prevent the rubber from slipping on the rim. Cars with tons of power and lots of traction need them, because the tire wants to stick to the ground at launch, while the wheel wants to rotate immediately. It’s a major problem when the rubber slips on the wheel. Bead lock wheels have tiny bolts around the edge of the rim the secure the rubber to the wheel. 👍

Cool videos, car runs awesome, Only thing it doesnt looks up to par with it's price range, is the front lightning. The headlights do not light much, no width, is there an upgrade for this?
@FlipBoxStudio

They are actually brighter than most cars’ headlights out there. In all of my Teslas, I almost always get oncoming traffic flash me thinking I have my brights on. I only wonder what they think when I flash them back with my actual brights. One pickup truck I came up behind let me pass him so he could ride my ass with his brights to “teach me a lesson”. I had to ignore him because Im pretty sure he wasn’t going to be civil at any point.

ironically, the way you're racing -- looking over at your opponent's fender and trying to match it -- is probably more dangerous than simply stomping the pedal and looking straight ahead. their outdated "safety" regulations are probably putting you at more risk than if you were simply running low 9s without looking over at your opponent the whole time. Don't get me wrong - i absolutely think hot rodded foxbodies banged out in some ding dong's garage need roll cages and parachutes if they're running 9's. But this thing is a verrrry solid bone-stock sedan straight from the factory. NHRA needs to figure out a way to delineate between those two types of vehicles rules-wise, because the restrictions don't really make sense for the Tesla.

I am a fan of this channel! I wish others were smart like you and the people you race and take their cars to the track to see how slow they really are instead using highways and side streets. No charging is offered at any of my (3) local tracks. But note: On my “20 Runs” night, during intermission I went over to a nearby Tesla Supercharger. Not because I had to (I was already over 70%), but because there was no reason not to. The RE-prepping of the track allowed time to easily do it.
