@@robertide5182 because on 2:02 they literally shill the car as stationary power supply. If you shill the product as something capable of doing x, but your warranty actually says whatever you are doing will void warranty, that's what it's called an abusive relationship. (pretty sure warranty clauses on mag-moss says that if product is expected to do x, you shill it as x, but you say warranty is invalid, then it is illegal because you are selling a product where its primary/advertised use case is not covered under warranty, despite you marketing the product as one.) It's the same as running a car in idle as a generator for say weeks or months. You still build up time running the engine but without putting miles on it. Batteries work the same way with charging cycles.
@NoName-ik2du
@NoName-ik2du 13 күн бұрын
@@Toefoo100 To me the main issue is the "stationary" verbiage. Though honestly, that makes no sense because vehicles are often stationary under all sorts of normal scenarios. You literally wouldn't even be able to get a car off a dealer lot without it being operational and stationary for at least a moment. Also, do regular cars also have clauses that their warranties are voided if the car is left to idle too long? It is logical true that this is undocumented wear on the engine (unless you check the computer logs, which I'm sure track idle time), but I've never thought to see if that leaving a car to idle actually voids the warranty.
@IXPStaticI

@@Toefoo100 Using the battery as a power source is still better than not using it. A phone battery will be dead after a year of not using it, but lasts 3 to 4 years when you use it and empty and then recharge it again. So what this means is : Using the product as advertised will void your warranty.
@anonym3017
@anonym3017 16 сағат бұрын
Except the product is advertised as a vehicle and not a stationary battery pack. batteries age with time and charge cycles. 150k miles on a cybertruck is 500-600 charge cycles. So that's the amount of wear and tear the warranty is intended to cover. If you were to use it purely as a home energy storage system you will not run out the mileage factor of the warranty and 10 years with a full charge cycle every day put you at some 3650 charge cycles. As you can see this is way past the intended warranty coverage. the cybertruck is currently too expensive for this to be sensible, as various hyundai/kia EVs also have vehicle to load functionality while offering more battery capacity per dollar, but this will change whenever tesla starts selling non foundation series pickups. and yeah. the correct approach by tesla would be specifying the battery warranty in charge cycles and time instead of mileage and time as that get rid of the problem entirely.

Whoever's willing to spend $82k on a bungle of triangles drawn on a napkin during a fever dream is not the kind of person who actually does any high intensity car activity. Their idea of "car work" is going to home depot to buy something that can easily fit in a station car with the seats laid down. Their idea of off-roading is driving on gravel (of which I've never seen anyone floor it). Honestly I'd rather just get a Hilux, but then that makes me *not* the target audience.

I would say having your laptop plugged in for 2 years straight and thinking that when you unplug it that its going to hold charge longer than 10 minutes is ridiculous. For clarity I'm not a tesla fanatic nor do I ever want a tesla product. Louis you cant seriously be upset that a company wants to protect itself from consumers that don't ever unplug a battery from the wall.... People don't understand that charging and discharging a battery is better for it than letting it sit at 100% of its potential energy for multiple years straight. If you're using you're using your "Cyber Truck" as a whole home power wall when it doesn't come with automatic charge discharge cycles or other home battery technologies. It CAN provide some energy in an emergency but setting it up as a "STATIONARY" backup is not within the scope of the product. That's what UPS's are for. It explicitly states stationary and I would reckon that there has to be some determination to the amount of time it needs to stay stationary for it to discredit the warranty and I'm completely certain Tesla will know how long the thing sat for with its all of its digital logging.

They just dont want some contractor to buy it as a mobile generator. Imagine someone charging it fully every Day, driving for 10 miles and then "depleting" the battery with power tools just to drive home at the end of the Day and charge it up again. The miles and years Clauses are in reality "charge cycles" but it is Hard for People to understand what a charge cycle is so they use miles and years. Such a Truck Would have 5000 miles on the odometer but "500.000 miles" on the "cycle-o-meter" Wording is terrible but I understand what they are trying to avoid. Could be done easier. "Any warranty claim on the battery Will be void if the battery was not used atleast 95% in car mode" This way you can power your house in a 2 Day power outage but Not power a job site All Day long every Day.

It's not entirely impossible - perhaps some wealthy couple purchased it in the US and had it shipped over so they could drive it on their own private land. But that's a lot of trouble to go to for a vehicle you couldn't actually drive outside of your own land.

If that's a competition by any stretch of the imagination, then theor power wall is WAY too expensive! But well, who needs reasonable pricing when they can just force their customers into choke-contracts with dozens of illegal restrictions, right? (Seriously, writing illegal terms into a contract should be an automatic fine from the FTC equal to what they would have to pay if they were sued by every single customer who bought the product! That would be actual consumer protection!)
@neekondrums
@neekondrums 13 күн бұрын
@@ShihanQu I completely agree, but I think the sticking point is how this gets worded. Let's entertain the idea, no matter how improbable it may be, that Tesla has the best of intentions in mind. How would they say, "This is a good battery, and it can run your house in an emergency, but it's not made to do that full time, and we didn't do extensive testing for this use in mind, so we can't guarantee what will happen if you do that," in such a way that provides their customers with the protections they deserve while also not leaving themselves open to douchebags looking for loopholes to game the system? I'm not even remotely a lawyer, so maybe it can be done easily and I just don't know about it. I can easily see a situation, though, where the warranty says, "Warranty is voided if the vehicle is stationary and hooked up as a whole house battery for over a month," so someone decides that they just unplug it from the house, pull out of their garage, then pull right back in and hook it up once every 27 days just so they can technically say they were compliant. In my mind, this sort of common sense, good faith contract is difficult to turn into something that would actually serve its intended purpose under a legal challenge.
@CameronNewland
@CameronNewland 13 күн бұрын
That is not the reason. It has nothing to do with powerwalls. It has everything to do with the fact that Tesla is happy to warranty your Cybertruck battery for its original use, which is driving the car around, and that Tesla should not be on the hook for warranty replacements of batteries that were misused (cycled an inordinate amount of times by powering a home or a small neighborhood for years at a time).
@swigersssssssss
@swigersssssssss 13 күн бұрын
The warranty should be for hours not miles on the battery then you can just do whatever you want with it. Currently (though it would be idiotic and expensive) you could just use a Tesla as a battery bank leaving it at no miles then if the warranty were to ignore that get a new battery because of degradation. 100k mile warranty assume an average speed of 50mph and say that the warranty is actually 2k operating hours on the battery or something like that (obviously napkin math to show the point).

Batteries are wear parts, and the warranty's duration is based on wear (A set number of years, or a set distance traveled) Using the battery heavily puts strain on the electrical system (mostly the batteries) without increasing either number, so they end up having to replace the batteries for people who are going way too hard on the batteries without driving the vehicle. I heavily doubt that this is the case tho, they will mostly try to use anything they can to weasle out of warranty anyways.

@@clockworkvanhellsing372 It would take more than that actually; EVs use a different battery chemistry for the very purpose of retaining their charge. So even dailying the thing by having it store solar power for usage at night as a powerwall alternative shouldn't hurt it. You have to go *really hard* to start impacting the battery. It's like Louis said, those things are meant to supply atleast ~40kw on a daily basis, much more if you're flooring it, so they're built very ruggedly and should last. A normal average customer using it as a stationary battery shouldn't be a problem. You'd have to actively drain the thing as fast as possible and charge it all the way back up as quickly as possible every day for a few years to warrant replacement; I can't even think of a use case that does that.

The reason it voids the battery is that Tesla's software manages how the power is delivered to the car for battery longevity and health. The power used by the outlet is not managed. So yes, you can use the car to run your tools, an electric grill, or in an emergency situation where the power is out. However, they do not want you to consistently use the car as a power supply because that will take years off your battery life or even potentially kill it. How do i know? Hi Louis, @rossmanngroup Love your videos. Knowing some Tesla engineers, theres an understandable reason for this point: Utilizing the truck as a stationary energy storage system (first off a really stupid idea) means that someone could purchase a cybertruck and put near zero miles on it but instead there’s cycling that has occurred on the battery life span. Therefore, someone could try to resell the truck as “mint” or like new, where there are hundreds to thousands of cycles on the battery pack. Also, The battery pack itself is warrantied based on miles driven which is its intended purpose and not a stationary energy storage device. The purpose was to allow the vehicle to be a supplementary backup power device, but not the “primary” backup power device. Vehicle to Home is a good idea as an emergency backup method but not a primary method. It also isn’t designed to meet strict electrical codes that stationary energy storage systems must meet, like UL9540. While this would technically be safer as it’s not actually attached to the home but connected via a cable, the cable itself nonetheless presents hazards that weren’t the intended use of Tesla’s PowerShare function. Hope that helps!

Same here in Australia. In one memorable case where a guy's Ford Ranger failed, Ford refused to warrant the repairs saying "it's our belief that you caused the failure". Note the words "our belief". No statement of fact, no documented causes or anything like that. Simply, Ford HQ gets the email, decides from 500km away that the vehicle is fucked and throws the customer under the bus. Here in Australia we have the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission, a federal body. It's one of the laziest and most incompetant of all of our public service entities and refuses to ream the car importers (we don't make cars here any more - they're all imported) when they flagrantly disregard the Austrailan Consumer Law Act which states, amongst other things, that a consumer has a reasonable right to a product's longevity. But now, a diesel engine shits itself due to faulty injectors (as one example) and they'll tell you to piss off. Sounds like the US has a similar cancer spreading around its consumer world.

My scan tool decoded it as “A/C compressor under speed.” I took the car to the dealer who diagnosed the same thing and told me that GM was going to replace the compressor under warranty - apparently because the compressor is considered to be part of the power train because it cools the battery. I figured I was probably going to be on the hook for a grand or two and it turned out to cost zero.

I can bet a 100% they have a counter on the outlet and they know how long you used it with the car parked.

But to be fair, if someone bought this as a mobile generator for job sites i kind of understand they dont want to warrenty the battery in 6 years when it is worn out because it was fully charged and discharged every Day on the Truck that only has 5000 miles on the odometer. They could have Worded it differently but I understand what they are trying to do. Remember that the range they set as a limit is just another way of saying X amount of discharge and charge cycles. Could have stated that if you want warrenty on a battery it must have been used atleast 95% in "car mode" This Would prevent someone from buying it and using it as a stationary generator on a job site..

Corporations own our country

They own literally everything. Literally. They even have your data now, just to make sure you're enslaved a little bit more. A reminder: this is nothing new. That's just Capitalism - the same system we've had for centuries now. Capitalism is the process of Capital expansion/accumulation that commodifies and privatizes every aspect of our lives. Of course they own everything.

@@feelthebern3783you realize the people who own the corporations are part of the same tribe Bernie Sanders is a part of right? You realize these people push capitalism, and also push and fund communism right?

I'm barely old enough to remember when there were neighborhood repair shops, even in the suburbs. We has a bike repair and parts shop and a TV/radio repair shop about 1/4 mile down one road, a lawnmower and yard machine repair shop a 1/2 mile in another direction, a window shop, a guy who repaired fishing rods and reels on the weekends, and numerous mechanics who each had their own specialty (domestic, foreign, transmissions, etc.). Now, all of those are gone, with two auto mechanics left.

Louis, this is the same company that says they'll have Robotaxis in 2018 and a semi truck that will make trains redundant, their word is worthless.

Vagueness is the most important tool in warranty crafting. Usually the exclusions stems from a sensible place - "obviously" your tesla is not a power station - but then the lawyers get hold the language and they craft it in such a way it can be bent to literally mean anything in the interests of not paying out. And truthfully, they would likely lose a court battle over this. They are just banking on no one ever taking it there.

And that's why writing terms that are in violation of consumer protection laws should be illegal and result in a fine similar to if they actually denied a customer their rights, rather than just claiming they would. I don't even see any vagueness in here: if you use or Cybertruck as a permanent or stationary or long-term power source, your warranty is voided. Thus, if you use it as a stationary power source AT ALL, like they advertise, your warranty is voided. This should result in a fine for violating the Magnusson Moss Warranty Act and a fine for false advertising, multiplied by the number of CT's they sold, of course! It's insane that a customer always has to sue these big corporations first, which most customers can neither afford to do, nor want to deal with, before the FTC _might_ take action! These giant coporations have armies of lawyers, they should be legally obligated to make sure that the contract they send out to the customers is in accordance with the law! There needs to be a "honest contracts" act, prohibiting unlawful terms and conditions, because evidently saying "those terms aren't enforcible" and waiting for the customers to sue is not enough to deter corporations from writing illegal terms and conditions!

Consumer protection is a joke to this car. A rear mirror that cant see out, sharp door edge to gash your legs, a frunk that dares owners to put their finger there, electronic only steering... etc.

The obviously missing part is that with the gps and telemetry data collected it's easy for tesla to prove that the vehicle was stationary and providing power or even worse the car can rat you out directly for doing so and violation of license of agreement which in itself is next level.

the term "stationary" is what's most worrisome because that just means 'it doesn't move while being used for that purpose' which is basically the only practical way to use it
