The time has come to see if the Ferrari Testarossa will move under the power of electrons for the very first time. We also get the scales out and see if the bolt-in electric conversion kit has improved the weight distribution as we hoped, as well as figuring out what the total weight of the Teslarossa now is.
The original wheels and tyres have now been upgraded to some awesome 285 wide Michelin Pilot Super Sports which should help get the power down and add to the improved handling on the twisty stuff.

Lexan scratches easily if you even look at it sideways. It wouldn't look good for very long if he actually used the boot for luggage. If he can live with the extra kilo or two of weight, tempered safety glass would be better.

I like the idea of having a boot in there. My feeling is that a boot could protect all the wiring and electronics from random nicks and cuts from debris in the road. That Testarossa sounds like it will be more fun without the loud, screaming, smoke-belching lump it used to have. I fancy it would be easier for me to listen to my music whilst driving. You…and this project…are mega! Take care. Aloha!

Well done. What really got me was the OTHER Testarossa seemingly waiting for a similar conversion (might have missed the vid about that). As for the boot, I'm torn on that. On one hand it is great to see the conversion, however I cannot overlook the practicality of a boot. The orange wiring doesn't add to the appeal in such a beautiful classic, so I hide that. The underside area could do with some aero attention, and would help the rear downforce. How about a 1/3rd width tub for boot storage and leave the rest visible? Ultimately it is up to the customer right?

Beautiful job Richard. My vote - put a boot (trunk) in it to add luggage or shopping/ grocery space. Makes a great grocery getter now and as you shop you can plug in and charge. Your comment re weight - distribution - I was to understand that you had to allow for driver weight also in your calculation for optimised handling, once the driver and passenger are seated , allow for an additional 150- 180 kg for the slimmer folk or 200 kg for the real size people and you might find it is front heavy.

Depends on the owner. If it is going to be used to run to Tesco in the Summer, you need to put a boot in it. If it is a demo car promoting Electification of existing cars you should leave it as is. As a Testarossa owner in Australia, I applaud your skills and conversion. The Testa needs a spare tyre if it's going to be used as a tourer. Even if that is a space saver as it had originally. There is sufficient room behind the seats on the shelf for soft bags, and a bit more in the front, so I suggest you make a cradle in the rear for a spare tyre and tool roll. Then it's perfectly usable again.
@dotancohen
@dotancohen Жыл бұрын
I would recommend against a space saver for this conversion, because there is no alternative place to put the full-size flat once it has been swapped. And full size spares can be rotated along with the other four wheels, increasing tire longevity. Which, as a Tesla owner, I can attest to as being even more important on these high-torque electric motors than on my old 60's and early 70's Mustangs.

This is a great conversion! I know there will always be the purists out there who will protest. But if you've got the money and you expect to live with this for awhile.. I don't see why not.. It's ever so slightly heavier than its gas counterpart.. but I think it'll be more liveable. I think you should put a boot back there. Make sure you have easy access panels if you need to get to the motor and what not. Definitely make a boot arrangement though!

The best of both worlds. The most eye appealing car of all time with insane, clean power, better handling, infinitely more reliable, improved weight distribution, massively cheaper to run, with more storage space… While I like the approach of the rear metallic grate, I probably would have left a faux exhaust. It’s as similar as the OG Testarossa gets. Of course I would fit a usable boot in the motor bay. Maybe something which allowed an easy access to the drivetrain and HV harness, but practical nonetheless. Looking forward for part 7. This is incredible. Your best project so far. If I ever travel to Wales, I’d love to visit your facilities. Congrats!

i would put a spare wheel in all that space in the rear. Practical and useful if you hit something sharp at high speed. I'm dealing with a car at the moment that has no spare, and its a real bother. Bonus points if you upgrade the gas struts on the boot lid, and fix the spare to the inside of the boot lid/door. That way you can still show off your pretty looms and motor when you pop the boot. Make it a space saver wheel if need be, but it's always good to have something to limp home on. Alternatively, you might be able to fit a spare vertically in behind the motor. This keeps the fun parts visible too.
