Tessa Thompson ("Westworld") and Ramy Youssef ("Ramy") discuss representation, working with Mahershala Ali, and the kind of dads they would want to play their fathers in their "Variety Studios: Actors on Actors" conversation. Thompson reveals though she'd already starred in "Dear White People," "Selma," and "Creed," she still sent in an audition tape for the pilot of HBO's "Westworld." bit.ly/VarietySubscribe

@Kamil Szczęsny Funny to see how racist you regressive "anti-racists" really are. You only care about racism one way, while at the same time you're not even trying to hide your contempt for white people. Scumbag racist hypocrite.

@@ambriaashley3383 What white privilege do I have exactly? I have worked hard for everything I got and white people dont get handouts for sitting around being white. Plenty of examples of unprivileged white people everywhere so what are you talking about? The irony of your assumption is that its racist as hell: grouping all white people thinking we're all the same. Also, I see nothing but black privilege these days. Blacks say racist things and you get a free pass. White people just being *perceived* (even wrongly) as racist and we are ostracised from society, lose our jobs and have our lives ruined. And you talk about being oppressed/persecuted? Whites are now the ones being targeted for oppression/persecution based on our skin colour, and you racist scumbags are fine it.
@blkalldayy

@@tovsteh You're talking out your ass. Firstly, Tessa's comment, cause I'm sure you just listened to the various racist white youtubers who mischaracterized it, was that she doesn't want to work SOLELY with white men. She doesn't want to walk on a set and only see white men in every position cause poc from black people, native Americans, Asians, women of every race are competent and should be represented in positions both in front of and behind the screen. Additionally, white privilege doesn't mean your life wasn't hard or you didn't have to work hard, it simply means that you're not persecuted due to the color of your skin. Your life is not made doubly hard because you are a white person living in a country with systems that were set up by white people and therefore do not work against white people. I'm also really enjoying how you say "blacks" but not "whites". Instead you say "white people". Your language alone reveals your humanization of white people and disdain for black people. White people can never be oppressed in this country due to being white. Facing consequences for your actions is not oppression. As the saying goes, "when you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression." You're a perfect example of that. If you are racist you deserve to face consequences because we do not need racist people in positions of power. Black women are 200% more likely to die during childbirth because racist doctors perpetuate the FALSE notion that black women have a higher pain tolerance and do not listen to them when they are in desperate need of help. Black sickle cell anemia patients are turned away when they're having a pain crisis because racist doctors assume they're lying for drugs. Why should we allow racists to reach these positions? If you're racist you do not deserve to work in a country where you will encounter people of color. Period. Lastly, black people have faced consequences. Nick Cannon just did, so again, you're talking out of your ass. Just say you hate black people and go cause it's obvious you're just spewing bullshit to cover that up.

@amaltaher2717

I think it also depends on where you live in America though. People from the Midwest talk differently from people near California. I’ve lived in both and I think the more you are around certain people, the more you are likely to start speaking like them and acting like them and she’s an actor so she must have traveled a lot. When I lived in the Midwest, I started speaking more like the people I surrounded myself with and when I moved to California and have come back to the Midwest, I realIze just how much the way I speak changed. But if we’re being honest, I don’t get a foreign accent from her. I think it may be a different place in America.

whenever she has an interview it's never about acting , cinema ,movies ect , but it's always about race, sexuality and fighting the system . those tpic are ok but i'm like , bruh you just started ! , make yourself a name as an actress first , and then you can give lessons . for example , i wouldn't mind lessons from Denzel Washington or Angela Basset , two black actors who have gained popularity because of their acting alone . I'm just saying she's not an awful actor or anything ( she was great in westworld season 1 and although i haven't seen "creed" i know she's a fan favorite) but she's kind of one note and a little boring . she needs to improve her acting, focus on it , talk about it more . i'm not joking literally ALL of her interviews are about social justice.. her latest work bombed ( MIB, westworld season 3 ) , she hasn't shined in anything since creed and westworld season 1 ( 2015 & 2016) , not surprisingly , she wasn't miscast / genderbent in both .

@blkalldayy
@blkalldayy 4 жыл бұрын
what does diversity for the sake of diversity even mean? there are characters of color and characters with various sexualities in the comics so why shouldn't that be represented on screen? why should we continue to have the same white or straight characters in every movie? other people deserve to feel represented on screen especially when the source material reflects that.
@negative6057
@negative6057 4 жыл бұрын
@@blkalldayy That's not what I'm saying though. It's basically like they're trying too hard to be diverse in their films that it just doesn't feel good anymore. You cznt just introduce the diverse characters all in one season. If you want to add them, you spread them out but from what I've heard, they're adding all the diverse characters in Season 4 purely for the sake of being diverse.

@blkalldayy
@blkalldayy 4 жыл бұрын
AtomicAdamG What about inclusion doesn’t feel good? And why does it have to feel good to you for people of different races and sexualities to be included on screen? Ultimately, most mcu characters will still be straight and white. Most of the existing characters who are in phase 4 are straight and white. Most of the eternals are straight, thor is still straight and white, Christian bale is straight and white, Peter Parker, Wanda, vision, Bucky, starlord, drax, Jane, Loki and the list goes on and on. They don’t have to spread out inclusion for it to be palatable to you when it seems that you have no problem with everything being straight and white. They introduced characters of color and lgbt characters in the last phase and are doing it in this phase and the next. It’s not going to be one per year cause that’s not real progress. Somehow having various straight white characters is fine but including various characters from different cultures and races who therefore have different experiences and lenses through which they see the world doesn’t “feel good”. How is that not interesting? How is that not a perspective worth seeing in the superhero world? Stan Lee surely thought it was.
@Ahmed-bk1gc
@Ahmed-bk1gc 4 жыл бұрын
@@blkalldayy I think the argument he's making is that it would be like over the top feminist esc movies like BOP or Charlie's Angels or they will overpower them for no reason like captain marvel.I don't think he minds the characters having a love interest of same gender,no one cares. As long as plot and actual character arc comes first,no one really cares.
