If you need to test coolant temperature sensor or you need to know if the coolant temperature sensor is good or bad on BMW e91, e90, e92, e93 we will explain that in this video. We will demonstrate how to test coolant temperature sensor if your car is overheating, if the temperature gauge is not working, or if you think that the coolant temperature sensor is bad. In the case of the temp sensor in the E46, because of how hard it is to remove it's probably just best to replace it if you've taken it out.

What is the real purpose of coolant temperature sensor? If it goes bad, can it screw up the cooling system and engine? Because, we have thermostat.

How do i actually know this sensor is bad? I have a e92 335i. Which i have replaced 3 water pumps in the last year, not even reaching 3k miles. Something keeps blowing them up and i was wondering if it could be this?

If the sensor is bad it could potentially send a false fail signal to your ecu making your car believe it’s over heating which could cause further damage by activating unnecessary systems to prevent an engine from over heating when it’s not

@@Davids_Touch yep I the ect coolant temp sensor went bad and wouldn’t let the electrical fans come on...I replaced it and has been running good for weeks...and I’m a pretty good mechanic...I learned that these bmws are very sensitive...I was lost cause it’s my first bimmer..😂

@@acourtneylawson2065 Right on, thank you for your response I really appreciate it. I replaced my waterpump, radiator, thermostat, hoses were fine, and added coolant and the car was still overheating, I just couldn't figure it out for 2 weeks now. Thank you. One more question, will the car (ECU/Engine control unit) read the new sensor? My dashboard is reading low coolant and I just put a whole bottle of coolant and bleeded it. Was just wondering? Thanks

@@Davids_Touch take the battery cables off for about 5 minutes...and then it will read once you reconnect them....in fact I had been put the new ect on and it kept running hot....it was driving me crazy...until my friend who is a real mechanic unhooked my cables and everything was perfect...

It will give you symptoms of a blown head gasket...but rarely does the heads blow in my model plus I knew it hadn’t cause of the dye test....it was so much pressure on my hoses that it cracked 3 coolant reservoirs which were 100$ each....I put in about 500$ worth of head sealers 4 different brands....I almost tore my heads down to replace gaskets...starting with the passenger side...I removed crank fan...water pump...fan clutch...and checked everything...within a couple weeks...the whole time my obd scanner was saying temp sensor circuit high....all of the hell to find out it was just a $15 dollar sensor 😕
