Power mode only affects transmission, not receive, so no difference for our purposes. We always use 1W mode when communicating over short distances to avoid unnecessary congestion of the channel.

It's better to get the habit of always checking power before emitting. On the ICOM remote, the HI/LO button is very easily knocked by accident and I often find the VHF in the wrong setting.

@@yk10yk Just replying to the grandparent comment that said the VHF seen in the video should not be set to 25 W. VHFs are often set that way by accident.
