Very bad practice of working on lines not through the pole. Do yourself a favor and ALWAYS apply tension on the line placing the load on something not someone.

Not sure what you are talking about, but this a just 11,000 lbs boat. My last boat, which I owned for 30 years and voyaged some 150,000 miles, displaced 50,000 lbs without injury. I also caution against doing this with larger boats in the linked article. Is there any possibility of reefing an in-boom main sail when sailing downwind?
@Morganscloud5 ай бұрын
Hi Nick. Good Question, but the answer is complex and mostly no. We have dug deep into all this over at our site in a three chapter series covering all the options (requires membership at $36/year to read) and starts here: www.morganscloud.com/2022/10/09/in-mast-in-boom-or-slab-reefing-convenience-and-reliability/

@@Morganscloud Hi John, I am a member, and I have read most of the comments on your site. I see how Paradigm may have pulled this off. I also read how Rob Gill claims to have had success reffing downwind. Rob gives credit to John, I assume Kretschmer, for sharing a downwind technique. I haven't seen Kretschmer's remarks. I'm interested in how downwind reefing might work on the Outbound 46, given that so many of these hulls have the Liesure Furl system.

Hi Nick, Let's chat about this in the comments to the relevant chapters at AAC then. You will find stuff about what John K told me about that there, short version: yes you can do it but it's ugly, and slab is way better and safer.@@dropthatfone
