I've owned my 701 enduro for around five months now and I'm about to leave for a big trip with it. I have to say it's just a phenomenal bike. Thanks a lot for making me pull the trigger on one David. No it's not as comfy as a twin, a dual sport never will be, but it's 50 kg less and that makes it ten times as good offroad and much more fun on twisty backroads. The LC4 engine is a gem!

Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV You mentioned how great and versatile the suspension was. For long term adventuring with gear (I don’t pack too much, and I weigh about 90 kilos) would you recommend a heavier springing, or it should be good the way it is? (Know this is personal preference but I’m curious your thoughts! Thanks!

I've learned a huge amount about ADV riding and motorcycles in general through your channel, in fact you are the reason why I went out and bought a DR 650 last year (my first bike at the age of 57) If this keeps up I could very well own a 701LR before I'm 60. Thanks for the great videos.

Fantastic review Dave, you covered so many of the relevant areas for adventure riding - I have been oggling the 701 in my local Husqvarna shop in Brisbane and lo and behold, you have just answered so many questions I had about this bike, particularly as the Husky has not received the media attention the Yamaha Tenere has. Can I compliment you on one particular aspect of your review which is so unbelievably helpful to viewer's ? The SOUND VOLUME ! Everything you say on your review can be easily heard and understood BECAUSE THE VOLUME LEVELS ARE COTRECT ! So many KZfaq videos have interesting content and great footage but are let down because we cannot hear what the rider is saying Your voice volume is perfect, well done Loved the backing music, twangy guitar and harmonica, what's not to love ! What beautiful adventure riding country ! I grew up in Sydney and had no idea these riding trails existed Excellent technical coverage of features of the 701 I was unaware of, very clearly explained so non mechanical riders like me can understand 10/10 Dave, well done

Super review with lovely countryside to drool over. You definitely raise the bar with adv bike reviews. It messes with my head as I've been thinking about getting a big single. Torn between a 690 & 500 for light adventure as a 4T go-between between my 300 & 990 but this 701 LR also makes so much sense.

You are, by far, the best story teller in the motorcycle adventure world. Australia fits you well, too. Another great video! I have the twin sister, 2019 KTM 690 and I have exactly the mods you suggested, real hand-guards, larger foot-pegs, a engine protection a luggage rack and touring windshield (still waiting for it, since they didn't come out last year). Being 172cm, the seat height is a bit of a problem in very specific situations. I'm thinking of a lowering kit, but I'm not sure yet. I love my ktm, I can go shopping with it, cruise around the city, and get really dirty in the same day. Cheers!

Thank you very much for this awesome review ! I really enjoy your videos and I hardly can´t wait to be back in Australia, because I spent 1,5 year there and made so many new friends there. very nice and helpful people, especially in the Outback. i.e. during my trip around your beautiful country by pushbike, I got a severe health issue on the way to Caiguna Roadhouse, had to go back to Norseman to the hospital, had a small surgery and was hosted by the local postman and his wife until my recovery . after cycling for four years and 28.000km, last year I bought a BMW R1250 GS Adventure, World Travel Edition from Touratech/Germany. I love this bike and it so great for long distance travelling, but too heavy for the real difficult tracks, despite the fact, that I already had four trainings at the BMW Enduropark in Hechlingen /Germany, which I highly recommend. But for having more fun in the deep dirt and difficult tracks, especially when I am on my own , on Saturday I will pick up a quite new Husky 701 (no LR) with Rade Garage Tower and tank extension.... wish you a great time, stay safe and healthy! keep in touch, mates !

Great Review, Great attitude, So enjoyable to watch...it was a great break in my day! I've been dreaming of a 690/701 based adventure bike for a while and this would be a perfect starting point. I like and agree on all the adds you talk about and would additionally add a couple more things: friction lock cruise control, lowering pegs for my taller frame, the Power Commander for a little low end boost which may make up for a the tall first gear (since neither manufacturer is willing to address that due to (my guess) sharing the motor with a street bike). And another silly mod I think I would like is a gear indicator. Thanks again. I'll be checking back often! Cheers

Another excellent bike review. You lead the pack in terms of useful information and relevance to real world riding conditions. This is an interesting proposition, mid way between the T700 and the 790 in price. Makes the Yamaha hard to justify when you have spent upwards of $1000 on it’s inferior suspension, have 9 litres less fuel and weigh 35 kg more than the Husky. This bike still proves that a good single will always be the way to go.

You're thinking of the bike the wrong way. The T700 and 701 are 100lbs apart, and feel completely differently. The 701 also needs $1000+ worth of equipment to make it ADV comfortable.
@MrEtnorb
@MrEtnorb 3 жыл бұрын
Brian Meyer To make the 701 comfortable you need a small add on screen, which costs less than $200. According to Dave, the seat was Ok for him although I would modify it myself. I would add Oxford grips to every adv bike if it didn’t have them. That’s it.
@gxm164
@gxm164 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrEtnorb A small screen will still not get the 701 as smooth and comfortable as the big T7 on extended highway miles. The two bikes are still in different categories. I would prefer the T7 for a cross continent tour with mostly paved miles, but the 701 is my bike of choice for dirt focused adventures. BTW I own a 701 and love it

I share your conclusions. Coming from my Africa Twin crf1000dct which I rode on dirt tracks in the Alps and Pyrénées, I got my 701 early 2021, and was really pleased to use it as an adventure bike, and easy to pass more technical parts encountered. No need for Long Range version in western Europe. Easy for 2 weeks trip with Enduristan saddles ( no side rack). Comfort seat added for boring highway, lower larger pegs , no bar riser for my 1,78m tall as better control of front when bent over hzndle bar, RadeGarage rally tower to fit GPS and have some wind protection. And yes it handles like the 450excf I used to ride. Thanks for extensive review 👍

@Dowent
@Dowent 3 жыл бұрын
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV AJP is old tech refined. For example, my 2018 PR4 has an engine from CRF 230, we have both in the family, but you can clearly feel the 10+ years of development, it has better low rev torque, smoother power distribution across the rev range and much better response. CRF 230 was already great, PR4 is amazing. PR7 doesn't hide that it's the bleeding edge of the tech, but it works its internals quite well. The engine certainly has that direct mechanical feel to it that I know so well from my KLR and other older bikes, but while it might be slightly harder to get used to, it really gives you the confidence that the bike will do what you want it to.

Great review, thanks! I have a KTM 690 Enduro R, and this looks like a nice evolution in the right direction. Would now have trouble choosing between this an the Yamaha T700 Tenere.

I own a regular 701 and am considering the Rade Garage auxiliary tank that replaces the stock airbox. Love the bike - I also own a 300 XC and while the 701 is not a lightweight dirt bike, it does enough dirt bike stuff to be highly entertaining while off road thanks to it's excellent suspension and, with the right front tire, surprisingly accurate steering. The engine is a gem with power for days for the "wrapper" it is in, and with a proper can on it the sound is pure big thumper bliss also.

Great review, you have gone over some great points with the bike, the bike also has the Bosch lean sensitive abs as well i believe. i think I’m pulling the trigger on one tomorrow, Ive been lurking around a 790r for the the last year but sitting on 701LR and understanding the complete bike they are not just a 701 with a big tank! Great bike Husky!

Excellent bike review. Australia looks like an adventure bikers paradise. Here in central europe (Germany), we have almost no legal gravel roads. So I am riding motocross once a week on my YZ250F, but it's too short fun because of my physics (I'm 56yo). Well, sometimes I'm riding a TT600R in the woods. I shorten the ratio by 4 teeth, so I don't need the clutch that much and it works perfect even for technical riding. It should help on a 701 too. So ride on and have a great time.

Dave, this is a fair dinkum great review. I got a 790 Adv R and might reconsider over time. However, still very happy with my Kati. But the weight difference and better tyre choice for harder enduro stuff is an argument for the Husky. Btw: when I was 6 months travelling Oz in '88 I saw many more roos, cattle, horses, camels, snakes and crocodiles (salties & freshies) ;-) Will sure come back one day to see more and enjoy riding downunder. Cheers from Switzerland

Another great review. This bike is what i would want most. The new t7 is amazing but heavy and like you said this is a big 450. I miss that on my 690 were I could hit any dirt road i could see. But the 690 was not pleasant on long distance. If this has most of the vibrations removed then its a good buy.

I upgraded from a '17 701 to the LR and I'm in love. Like he said, it's smooth on the highway, has a fantastic range, and is much lighter than all the mid-range twins out there. I think it's the best adventure bike that was* on the market.

@@jay1st1st I don’t notice the difference. I’m assuming that’s because the weight of the gas is balanced between the two tanks.

Really like the husqvarna 701 LR but i have to say it is quite expensive bike in my country (finland). I have been riding little over a year now my T7 and loving that bike but with that husqvarna i could do much more harder off road riding. T7 is still very big bike. Thanks for nice review and i really like all these videos you do. Saw 2 kangoroos.

I have 2019 690 and I agree about needing a wind screen and low bars. I fixed the first with a Nomad ADV fairing and the second with a BRP Scott’s steering stabilizer. I always ride mine in map 2 with the ABS dongle installed. KTM rally pegs, Wings exhaust, Oxford rally heated grips and BRP hand guards finish off the mods.
