I was watching another channel about a Chinese Diesel Heater, and the guy was testing for CO2 using a CMTOOL handheld meter. At one point in the video, he said - Wow!, the CO2 is down to 385, well, I was immediately taken back by the reading, and decided to go to the Amazon listing in his description to check it out. The description led me to believe that the CMTOOL meter was possibly one of those “FAKE” Chinese meters, so I purchased it for 30.00, and the reason for the purchase, was to know for sure if I was correct in my thinking, but also it was to let this channel know - if in fact, I found it to be fake, so that not only could I ask him to throw it away and not use it any longer, but to also hopefully stop others from making the same mistake, by buying a fake meter.
This meter absolutely turned out to be a fake, and I do a tear-down to prove it is a fake. The ONLY 2 sensors inside this meter, are a Temp & Humidity sensor, and a Alcohol sensor that is used to give the fake CO2 readings. Please do not buy this monitor and why you will find NO link to it in this description. If you need an affordable CO2 monitor, then please check out the Hotkrem CO2 monitor for only 30.00 at the time of this recording. I will try to remember to put a link below where you can get this incredible little monitor for detecting CO2, and TVOC.
If you like this type of video, please let me know in the comments about a subject you would like to discuss and I will do my best to create a video on that subject, or if you have a video idea for a DIY project, A review of a product or anything else, I will be happy to create that content as well.
Thanks for stopping by, and remember - find someone who needs to laugh, needs to smile, needs to cry, or just simply needs a friend - and make it happen ;).

This is an update to what I am doing right now... I have a couple new videos coming soon, but right now I am in the process of building a new case that will be much more sealed, and will also be able to hold a vacuum for testing monitors more precisely. Can't wait to get it finished, and start using it. I am working on about 4 different projects right now, including designing a knife sharpener?..., so not much time for sleeping lol... I am waiting on a much anticipated order that I placed for formaldehyde, so I can more accurately test a specific monitor that I will be reviewing shortly. So - Please stay tuned for some exciting new videos coming. Please I ask that you hit the like button so that KZfaq will alert others who may be interested in knowing about their air quality monitors. Thanks to everyone who has subscribed, and also, if you like this content and want to see more - do hit the subscribe button as well. The more people that subscribe, the more KZfaq will push this content to those who need to know about it, - Thanks. I pray that everyone's New Year is going great, and I am also hopeful that 2024 will be the year that Outside In finally takes off. I have contacted a couple companies, and asked them to send high quality meters to me to more accurately test these lower budget monitors, but have heard nothing yet, and I suppose it is because Outside In is still too small to interest them in sending me their products, so that is why it is so very important that anyone who continually comes to Outside In (for honesty, and accurate and detailed information), hits the Subscribe Button, so our channel can get to more and more people who need it.

Hey Outside In, I'm watching you from Europe, and I just wanted to say thanks for this informative video. I'm so glad that I didn't fall for a fake air quality monitor thanks to you. 👏 That could have had health consequences for me. I loved that you tested a bunch of different air quality monitors. This gave me a good sense of what's out there and what to look for. I also appreciate that you explained the importance of accuracy in air quality monitors. I never considered that aspect before. 👍

You are very welcome. and Yes, it is very easy to fall for a fake monitor, as they make them look so real, but a simple test can verify their legitimacy. I have another monitor to review and tear-down next week, and that one is for sure going to be very interesting, as I myself am very intrigued by this one ;). There are a lot of great monitors on the market, and also a lot that is not, and I am just happy that I am able to help someone in their search for the monitor that will best suit their needs. Thanks for the comment and thoughts, they are much appreciated.

Hi Steven, I recently saw a video with the CO meters we have from Alliexpress. It seems to be quiet accurate. Also a interesting thing he said that the sensors have a expiry date, they do not last forever. the CO sensor is good for 3 years in our meter, but depends when it was made, if it was made 1 year before you bought it, the sensor will be good for 2 years. Also he prefers NDIR sensors
@Outside-In.
@Outside-In. 6 ай бұрын
Do you mean CO2?. Electrochemical sensors are used mostly because they are more accurate, and yes they seem to have a shorter life span but that may depend on how often you use it. I do not use mine 24/7. I only use mine if I feel that the CO2 needs to be checked. There are two major drawbacks of NDIR sensors: interference and detection limit. The sensitivity of a NDIR sensor is the magnitude of the detector signal per unit Infrared (IR) intensity. Detection limit is a measure of the smallest concentration which can be determined with a specified precision or reproducibility. If you only use your CO2 meter when you think there may be a problem, then it may last for many many years to come, so just don't run it 24/7. These meters were not meant to run 24/7 in the first place, they are meant only for industrial use in factories and places of business, and the reason for Electrochemical is for better accuracy and detection limit. I keep mine in a case, and only bring it out when I need to use it just like you would any other tool, but then again - we will find out huh?. I hope this last more than 3 years with little use, but I guess I will find out. If you could give me a link to the video you are talking about, that would be great as I would find it interesting...

Well Ruudy, I have to thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have been doing more research on these electrochemical sensors, and yes they do have a shorter life span. The reason that electrochemical is better is because they are more accurate, but at a cost - shelf-life. I am still learning, so if I want accuracy, I may need to buy one of these every 2-3 years for use in videos, but for the typical person, I guess the NDIR would be a better choice because they last longer with the unfortunate loss in accuracy, but I guess also for the typical person, there is no need for pin-point accuracy anyhow. I am still learning as I go, but it is good to know about these electrochemical sensors, so that I don't push a product that has a shorter life-span even though it has better accuracy. I just say that you should take advantage of the better accuracy at least until this one dies, and then you can get one with the NDIR sensor that has a better life expectancy.

Hello! I don’t know if you have already answered this question before but what is your top 3 air quality monitors for a home use? So my apartment located near busy railroad station (trains come and go every 30 min) and there is also a highway (also very busy), for that reasons I’m really concerned about the air I breathe, should I open my windows or not, etc. First I would like to buy a best monitor for a home use and then buy air purifier (if air is bad). Many models that you are reviewed are not available in my country, so I can not buy something right away. Nevertheless I would appreciate your recommendation. Thank you in advance and thanks for your videos. You are literally only one who is doing this at this level of thoroughness

My top 3 at the moment would be TemTop, Hotkrem, AirKnight for Particulates, HCHO and TVOC and (Smart Sensor handheld meter for CO detection). AirKnight is coming out with an update to the 9 in 1 in a few months, so I would wait on the AirKnight until the update comes out. Being located near a railroad station, and being concerned about air quality, I would purchase an air purifier like the Levoit Core 300s, 300 or 200, and let it run 24/7. I have had my 300s for about a year, and it runs all the time, and works beautifully. I change the filter about every 6 months, but that depends on how dirty the air is, and it is easy enough to check the filter every month or so so see how the filter is changing in color due to contaminates in the air. I would also consider opening a window on the opposite side of the house to the railroad station, as most contaminates are going to be on the track side, so that side of the house will have more contaminates present allowing them to come in through windows on that side of the house. I understand that not all of the monitors I review/test are available in your country, so if there is a monitor available to you that you would like for me to check out, just let me know what monitors are available to you, and I will do my best to purchase a monitor to test and review. I am glad that I could help with these videos, and am hopeful that I have been able to help also with your questions.

What multi function air quality meter would you recommend for indoor 3D printing with polyamides and polycarbonate polymers ?
@Outside-In.
@Outside-In. 3 ай бұрын
Polyamides put off particles in the range of 5 to 10 microns in size, so you would need a monitor that registers PM10 and PM2.5. Poly-carbonates (according to SciCron Technologies and Naxtat.com) have no adverse human effects - However, certain sensitive individuals with respiratory impairments may be affected by exposure to components in the processing vapors, so for the vapors, you would need a monitor that also has a VOC sensor. As far as what I recommend... I truly do not have a great answer unfortunately any longer (for the time being)... The reason is that all the monitors that I have tested and reviewed to date, have either stopped working, or have stopped registering correctly. After much more research, I am finding that most monitors now have such poor quality control from the manufacturers, that it is being a hit and miss on even getting a device that works or works for very long, and that is why the comments/feedback on most devices have such a diverse difference of opinion on how good a product is. I (for the first time) am at such a loss for what to recommend any longer except for trying to find a lab quality device that the company will stand behind 100%. I have contacted companies that sell devices that cost in the hundreds or even thousands of dollars, and not one of them will send a device to me for test and review, and I do believe it is simply because Outside In is just way too small for their consideration - it is about making money, and the only channels that would be considered, would be a channels with 10's of thousands of subscribers - so that they can get the widest audience possible. That is unfortunate, but I do understand their reasoning. I am in contact with a couple other companies that are going to be talking to me next week about their monitors, but I am not sure how it will turn out. I truly wish I had the money to buy much more expensive monitors to test for durability and longevity, but unfortunately I do not. AirKnight is in development of a new monitor based upon my recommendations, but AirKnight told me yesterday that they are getting closer to a finish date, but don't want to jump the gun on a release due to the possibility of something going wrong to prolong it, and I for one appreciate and respect them for that. AirKnight is working very hard to create a monitor that will exceed that of most monitors in a budget price range, so we just need to let them take their time to get it right. I just found out also that another monitor that I thought would be a good fit for Outside In, has now started having critical issues after being on for a few days, so honestly LivingTheDream, I am at a total loss of words for how to give you any recommendation at all at this point in time. I cannot and will not recommend a product to anyone without my testing, reviewing and doing a tear-down to verify the contents. I hope I was able to say that without sounding rude LOL, but sometimes it is very difficult to put into text a sense of understanding and concern. I care very deeply about peoples safety, so it would be completely irresponsible of me to tell someone that I believe this or that product would work great for you - without first trying it out on myself first. The only recommendations that I can have at this moment are for a CO2 and CO monitor. Even the Hotkrem monitor that I was beginning to fall in love with, I just found out through further investigation (see my latest videos) - is garbage and cannot be trusted - simply because of a serious lack of quality control. Most companies are out to make their money, and the last thing on their mind is quality control. If there is a company out there that truly believes in their product and stands behind it 100%, and would like to have access to a channel that will be completely un-biased and 100% honest - then I am ready to help them get their product to the public, but so far I have had not takers unfortunately. I am so sorry that I could not be of more help, but I would not be able to sleep at night if I sacrificed your life just to give you a recommendation of something that I can't find a reason to believe in. One person will argue that their device works flawlessly, and then you will find 10 more people (with the same product) complaining that theirs don't work, or stopped working after a few days or weeks (I must say it truly is a lack of quality control that causes this indifference in most products that I have tested and reviewed) - so in the end (right now anyhow), your guess my friend is as good as mine. I am now hoping that the new AirKnight is going to truly be the best of the best - but that obviously remains to be seen... if anyone is reading this and knows of a great great quality monitor that Outside In can get behind, then please let me know, and I will do my best to get my hands on it for sure. Thanks LivingTheDream for your comment and question, I only wish I could have given a better answer to your question. I think from now on, I cannot do a video for any monitor at this point, until I have used it for at least a few months to verify that it would last more than a few moments LOL. Companies that are pushing out product with no care for safety or longevity, are making is difficult for good and honest companies to get their more expensive products seen.

Just tested my CO2 meter which sits at 422ppm, did not move with alcohol, I did hold my breath while testing. The TVOC shot up to 2000mg/m3 normally it stays around 1,780mg/m3 is this ok HCHO is around 0.220mg/m3 did not move much during test. Both TVOC and HCHO stay in the red zone, even whrn I put the meter outside. I have quiet a lot of foam RC planes, thats why I bought the meter.

NO, that is not normal for TVOC and HCHO, but I am also concerned that the CO2 is at 422 ppm before the test - too low of a number. What is the name of your CO2 meter?, I would like to check it out. Thanks Please watch my latest video, I go into detail about fake CO2 monitors and how to test them, while also testing a fake CO2 meter.

Sorry Rudy, I have been responding to so many comments today, that I keep forgetting who I am talking too, so I just came back and re-read your comment, and I noticed that you had mentioned that your TVOC and HCHO stays in the red even outside, and that is not normal at all, nor is 1780, so now I am wondering if I am right that your monitor could be either defective or not being quite honest with you. Could you tell me the name of your monitor so I can check it out for you?. Thanks

CO2 levels will never go below 400 above ground level. The Atmosphere is right now I believe, around 415 according to science. The only way to see levels like this monitor is showing at 385, is to go under ground. A home typically will not go below 420 or so, and will more than likely be at the lowest around 480 to 535 ppm. Normal Indoor levels of CO2 are 600 to 800 ppm. If you have levels of 3000 ppm, that can be very dangerous for your health. Levels above 5000 ppm, can be life threatening. If you are unfortunate enough to see levels at 40.000 ppm, it will probably be for only a few moments, because you will cease to exist for more than a few moments at those levels. CO and CO2 are the most important gases that you should be concerned about in your home as they are around us all the time, just waiting to make an appearance to disrupt our lives. CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) is our constant companion just like Formaldehyde (HCHO), it is everywhere, and these are perfectly fine at normal levels, but we expel CO2 (around 35,000 ppm) with every breath, so why it is so very important to keep an eye on CO2 levels when there are allot of people in our home or office. A CO2 monitor is great to have around, as you can know when to open a window to create a bit of ventilation. CO is all around us also, but it is of our own making, so why it is also important to always have a CO monitor around, so that when we are cooking, or wood-burning, or any other activity that creates a bit of Carbon Monoxide (CO), we will know when we need to open a window and again, create a bit of ventilation. I was looking at reviews of a CO monitor on Amazon one day, and one person was complaining that they didn't like it because the CO number never changed from 0, and thought that something must be wrong with it... I thought to myself - Thank God it doesn't change from 0, or you could have a serious problem (unfortunately I couldn't reply, so I couldn't tell him that that was normal, and something to be very happy about). What the reviewer's response to the CO never going above 0 - said to me, was that, I am noticing that people keep being mislead by these fake monitors simply because the numbers keep changing, and if numbers are not changing in a legit monitor, then something must be wrong with it. Just because a monitor shows some pretty cool and amazing looking data, does not mean it is telling you the truth, and why it is so important to know if your monitor is legit. CO should never ever go above 0, and if it goes to 1, it will ONLY be for about a second or so, and return to 0. I know it is not very impressive to have a device of numbers and they just sit there and do nothing, but that is what you want when it comes to air quality most especially for CO - You Do Not want that number to ever move off of zero... BUT - remember to check it from time to time (as in this video), just to make sure it WILL go above 0 ;)... Thanks for stopping by, and I truly hope and pray that you received some good information from this video comparison and tear-down. If you have a monitor that you are not sure of, and would like for me to check it out, please don't hesitate to ask the question, and I will do my best to find an answer for you.
