I'm an LED Tech at Wavelength Lighting (Official Title: LED Technomancer) and I fix these lights quite often. They are very good lights and I highly recommend them. The associated app has a bit of a learning curve but has incredible depth, I'm constantly learning new tricks that you can do using the app. (I fix them a lot not because they break easily but rather because there are so many in circulation) P.S. If you need need any lights fixed give me a call, we are based in Georgia and our website is pretty easy to find.

$850 per tube! Cripes! Definitely aimed at the pro market.

I have zero use for these but nice to see quality stuff compared to all the crap on Amazon. Also nice video by Joey. He does pretty well in front of the camera too.

great overview which was really an introduction to tube lights for me. That price point seems reasonable for the intended production industry that needs consistency and longevity to avoid delay costs. A little too much for playing with in the garage, but now I know more what to look for in case I need that level or what I’m giving up when I don’t budget that much.

If you need something a little cheaper look into the AX1, it does basically the same thing. Its the predecessor to the Titan and people don't really buy them much anymore so you can get them pretty cheap.

Even if these things are not needed by viewers or beyond their price point I find these videos super handy. Sometimes it encourages creativity in other ways. I occasionally have to make props and always sent people to a local guy for lighting props but he's retiring. I hadn't thought about how I'd mock up a garage light or other scenic light on stage. Lots to think about. Time to work on these addressable LED all the kids are talking about :)

One of my favorite bands called Switchfoot uses these for their concerts. If you check out a live performance of them performing their song 'Florescent' they use these on stage as strobes and they are absolutely insanely bright! I would like to have a set of these for better lighting in my print shop space but if I look at the price, I'm probably gunna need to win the lottery first lol.

Is the programing of the patterns open ended so you can come up with custom sequences or would you have to hack into it to do novel things?

A note for people surprised by the high price. Professionals who own these get a kit rental when they bring them on a job. So it’s an investment that makes them money down the line and can charge more for them than the cheaper brands.

Is there any respectable reason these are so expensive? Super color accurate or is it just because it had the big "professional" tag on it? Trying to wrap my head around a $850 price tag.

The price hurts, but after owning a kit of 4 personally with plans to get at least another 4, they’re 100% worth their cost. They are bar none, the best tube light made. The biggest differentiating factors between Astera tubes and other brands is that these have built in CRMX, built in battery with a sophisticated battery management system, an IP rating, and 16 individually controllable pixels . Most other cheaper tube lights are only 1 pixel (and thus can’t run any kind of chase effect), have to be powered by AC or use a clunky external battery, has to be controlled by a finicky Bluetooth app, or wired DMX with the use of an adapter cable. There literally isn’t any other product with this feature set other than the Titans (and their little brother, the Helios). It’s worth mentioning too that they have extremely good ROI as a rental item for rental houses/owner ops. In my area (Washington DC), an 8 tube kit of Titans costs about $650/day to rent, roughly 8% of their cost. By contrast, most other lighting fixtures tend to rent at 3-5% of their value. My set of 4 titans easily laid itself off within a year of owning them and they come in handy on virtually every production I work on.

Does anyone have a more budget friendly set of lights like this? I'd love to get some accent lighting but can't seem to find a budget option that's worth it

The AX1 is the predecessor to the Titan and is much cheaper than the Titan currently. You can also look into Aputure and Quasar. If you are deadset on getting something like the Titan but it costs more than you can justify, you can call a lighting company like the one I work for and we can sell you used rental stock. You can get them a lot cheaper this way and there is basically no downside. I cant vouch for other companies but the rental stock we sell have absolutely no practical issues, just cosmetic things like scuffs. I personally do health and function tests on them before they are given to the customer. Hope this helps
