DesignIncase SLA resin has been around since 1986, the industry would love to remove that part, as it is a major concern for everyone. I'm not saying there is no way, I'm saying the only way we know how to make photopolymers is with sensitizing agents. If a person could figure it out, you'd win the 3D game if it matched all the other material requirements. Which is another thing you have to consider.

Didn't he say it should be good for 70 wash cycles of a full tray? I'm guessing that means 5 - 7 liters worth washed per $70 alcohol. 1$ per wash cycle.

Be careful of resins though for those cheaper options. Others that I've seen are far worse than Form2 resins, which are not really that hazardous under proper storage and handling conditions.

Well, just like my reprap printers, I have cheap but decent printers, and I use good filament. A multi thousand dollar printer doesn't really make sla printing any safer. Just gotta be conscience about what your dealing with.

Un like China printers! you do get what you pay for and then some. 5K with printer wash and Uv cure isn't a bad deal when you think of the level of detail of the prints, furthermore. when you compare it to the Ultimaker 3, which is 4.5K or the S5 which is almost 8K, its really reasonably.

@@patprop74 Yeah, you're paying for the support of the company. Also, the wash/cure stations are $1200 retail, so that means the printer is $3800. Not bad at all. These aren't for home gamers either; esp in the configuration with the wash/cure units. You're not suck worrying about getting parts from a random Chinese company, there's zero warranty/tech support with the Chinese ones, not to mention Chinese resins being much more toxic than German/US resins.

Yes it is. I don't know if they still have them manufacture in China though. I know from the Netfilx show , Printing the Legend , their form1 was.

patprop74 they now make their products in their local areas (NA made in US, EU made in the germany,* etc)

Not to mention the toxicity of uncured resin. This channel seems to have a strange blind spot when it comes to safety; see the recent, comically cavalier mains-connected pinball stop-light doohickey.

thank you for mentioning this. we have 3 form2's at my place of work and a wash and cure station. Our printers basically run 24/7 so we go through cartridges, tanks, and alcohol like crazy. the byproduct of trying to filter the uncured resin from the alcohol in the wash results in a sticky flammable jelly substance that shall remain nameless for the time being. FormLabs is really doing a horrible job at considering and providing the resin disposal aspect of their printing methods.

Another issue is how Tested.com never discusses how it handles waste plastic from failed 3D prints. Hundreds if not thousands of makers with 3D printers are creating crap loads of NEW plastic waste on top of all the manufactured plastic that's been around for years and has polluted the oceans and every thing else. Some makers on KZfaq don't even give it a thought when they show off their huge bags and boxes of failed prints. Where does it go? I've seen videos from Tested.com that show the same thing. Dozens of failed plastic 3D prints for just one that works. Remember too that those plastic prints... none of them have any identification of what type of plastic it is for recycling in waste management. They NEVER discuss how to deal with this. There are makers who recycle 3D print plastic and all other types of plastic. Some are building cheap at home grinders and extruders to chop up and extrude new 3D printer filaments, doing "home based" injection molding. And yet, tested.com has NEVER showed off these projects or attempted them themselves. They are always featuring and supporting some small startup making exciting new products that simply produce more waste. Why not show some companies that are trying to deal with the waste product of all this crafting.

compared to household waste of plastic, the 3D printing world is tiny. You could probably have every 3D printer on earth, extrude directly into the ocean, and it is likely a tiny fraction of the water bottles thrown away on a single day. Yes they should talk about it, but in scale likely a tiny, tiny issue

Andrew Brothers I use a number of these exact machines at work. Something like that probably won't work, even if you washed it for two days. Even using 99% IPA as opposed to 91% IPA makes a huge difference with the final product.

Not for anyone no, but on the commercial level they are practical and serve a variety of uses. SLA for hobbyists is a lot of work and money if you aren't cranking out parts or making products/providing services.

Denatured alcohol is NOT isopropyl alcohol. Denatured alcohol will ruin the parts

Depends on the profession. We use the forms for surgery and are printing highly detailed bone/screw guides for every case. They aren’t large parts but they need to be exact within micron level tolerances. Your statement is silly given how varied the world of things are. For lots of engineering tasks, small and precise is exactly perfect. We were doing some research into airway stents and used our forms (the original form1 no less) to print the molds for the stents, and since we aren’t treating elephants it was well within the envelope.

Formlabs is American and Tested is American. So it's irresponsible for Tested to use metric units without specifying the fact that they're using metric.

We have been using both the Wash and Cure daily since they was first released, and we have had no problems like that, still working just as well as the day we got them.

Estimated 70 wash cycles per full tray.

Tip, make sure you let most of the excess resin drip off, then use a preliminary alcohol wash to get most of it off, then run it through your wash station. It'll greatly increase the life of the alcohol in the wash station.
