I found the plaster strips to be exceedingly useful when I wanted to 3D print a piece that fit exactly inside a plastic container with an irregular shape. Coated the bottom inside of the container, let them dry, knocked them out, then I 3D scanned the plaster to make a model of the inside of the container. The plaster scans like a dream since it isn't shiny and reflective.

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to make a "flat-topped asteroid" to serve as the base of a miniature floating space-castle. Thanks for the inspiration. Plaster bandages... fancy that.

ProTip from a retired Home-Decor Customizer Specialist, if you want to even out gaps from seams or lightly coverup the mesh that still shows. For the seams take some Pink Spackle, don't worry about the color of the Spackle it drys white so you can tell when it is safe to touch, add a small glob and add it in-between the seams, then with the tools of your choice, whether it be your fingers, paint brush of foam wedge, smooth out the glob to fill in the gap between the seams. And for the mesh water down the Spackle separately and use a paint brush or foam to add a small layer on top of the exposed mesh to make it disappear, just remember the more you water it down the thinner the layers you can apply, or the more mesh that shows the less water you want to use.

There are plenty of thicker and texture paints out there that will lay on thick enough to hide those fabric lines. A semi-matte(possible satin?) acrylic would probably be ideal here with that green powder for the physical texture. The paint itself can help look like spackled stone and other things too. If you're doing a full build, it might be worth buying a proper can of it from a hardware store. This is great for someone starting out on a tight budget though.

You can also get the same effect using old newspapers scrunched up and taped down. And watered down modpodge and toilet paper strips will give the same effect as plaster bandage and it is cheaper

• Kayte: "This is going to be messy. ..." and yet Kayte does not tie her hair back. • Ahh I see now the bandages themselves have the plaster IN them already. Mom mixed plaster from water, flour, and news paper. • My recollection of Paper paper-mache was that you needed more than two layers to have it sturdy, and solid. The plaster hospital casts that I have worn have had were more like 4 to 8 layers (guessing). Paper Paper-mache can mold. • Might begin to play with this later this year.

The end result would be ok for a massive train diorama, but I think more attention needs to be taken to cover up the obvious fabric texture. I guess this was more about the material than the finished thing, but it's kind of lifeless.
