IDK if this is true in battlebots, but the UK version Robot Wars, chemical incapacitation agents are definitely banned. I wanted to build one that contained a can of expanding builders (polyurethane) foam on a lance that'd shoot into the workings of the opponent, gumming it all up - but it's definitely not allowed in the rules!

I'm pretty sure shooting any liquid is prohibited, otherwise no one would be using the crappy gas based flame-throwers that act as little more than VFX in most matches, liquid based flame throwers are WAY more effective as it can drip fire into the internals of your opponent. Even a water gun could potentially short out the electronics in many bots.

I'm more of a code guy than a mechanical guy, but I've helped out my students at Vex and First Robotics competitions and I'm happy to say that the same spirit of sharing tools and knowledge - even with your potential rivals - is present at the pits there at the high school level as well. I think its hard for a real maker/engineer of any kind to pass up an opportunity to help make something better; its how a good maker should be wired.

In the past when people would ask me who is someone that inspires you I would be left wondering and didn't really have an answer but one day when watching tested it just clicked! Adam savage is the person that inspires me, I can say I found my path in life from growing up watching Mythbusters and now tested, I'm not the best creator but I can confidently say I am a creator and love what it brings to my life because of that man. Thanks Adam!

I loves seeing that same sense of comradery that Adam talks about. I call it "Wanting to win, instead of wanting the other guy to lose." You want your thing to be the very best, which means you want the other guy's thing to be as good as it can possibly be-- because it's no fun to win because your opponent's motor broke, or he had the flu that day, or whatever. I really miss the Sy-Fy show "Faceoff" for that. The makeup artists were always helping each other excel. (I theorize that's because if you want to be a successful movie makeup artist, you need a reputation as a team player instead of a diva.)

Holy cow! Has it been 20 yrs, I remember seeing meow meow way back when. Wow, what a blast from the past. My son is 10, and an avid fan of Battle Bots. Can’t wait to start building when he gets a wee bit older. Till then, he likes messing with my multimeter, building Arduino electronics and learning code. Thanks for sharing the video! It gives me hope that I can overcome my cancer and spinal damage to take what I have learned in the military and share it with my son. Take care Mr Savage! Stay safe and healthy. James

My favorite part was when you learned something new about Lexan, it’s so cool to see someone who knows so much and is such a great teacher himself have that moment of “I did not know that!” Don’t know why, it was just cool. Love these videos with you and Fon!

Would love to see an ongoing series of this talking with some of the original BattleBots builders about their robots. So many of the guys and gals in the Comedy Central seasons didn't come back for the ABC and Discovery years, so it would be great to hear from them.

I absolutely love the mentality of "all of this only needs to work for three minutes at a time." Make everything 100% functional for as long as a match could possibly go, and then, who cares.

I'm glad to say that BattleBots has always been a part of my life, from the occasional glimpse as a little kid in the early 2000's, all the way to the Hydra Era of the show. I thought it was really touching that the organizers of BattleBots renamed the award for best design after Grant Imahara (may he rest in peace) when they awarded it to the redesigned version of Chomp.

At least, what's left of it. From what I heard, it had to retire because it took a hit from a controversial Battlebots hazard called "The Piston", which juts up from the floor. Supposedly, the piston went off under Blendo while it was at full speed, pushing the internals and base into the shell, destroying it from the inside. It's a shame, because I heard that final version of Blendo was really good and competitive, practically back in it's prime.

Oh man, I was a HUGE Battlebots fan back when it was on Comedy Central. Mouser Mecha-Catbot was one of my favorites, and it's kind of wild and cool seeing it in this context.

The bot that gave Mouser the cybernetic implant was Executioner in 1999, which had a chainsaw weapon. Mouser was also actually a Lightweight robot as it otherwise wouldn't have had the beatings against Sallad and Gamma Raptor.

Love Battlebots! I remember watching MMCB (meow meow lol) fight. I think what I loved most was that backstage comrodery. Sadly I had the expertise but not the time or money to bring a design to life, drive it 3000 miles with all the spares and compete. Win or lose I think it would have been a bucket list item for sure.

CA kickers generally use a fast- evaporating solvent (acetone sometimes) to transport the accelerator agent. Any solvent will quickly and catastrophically degrade polycarbonate. I might have learned this when modifying a piece of equipment for use on the space shuttle in the mid 90s.

Man nice to see things like that. I miss when bots were still simple and there were weight classes. Now everything same weight and you need high end sponsors to afford the stuff. Hopefully 2021 season will be as exciting as the current one. I think one highlights of 2020 season was Rusty, the low-end bot. It kept going, which was cool.

This is fantastic! One of my big complaints of the newest seasons of bb is that most everyone builds a just-armour-box with wheels and a weapon or a spinner. I feel as though they should have a rule that your armour has to be a certain amount 'crunchy' such that blows really do tear it to shreds for the viewing pleasure.

Those makita battery holders were used in Ghostbusters 2 to power the lighter proton packs that were built for that film. I would love to find those holders today.

Plastics need to be tempered!! (After any kind of heat processing). Get similar issues when laser cutting and coating with solvent paints or solvent cleaners, I think the term is crazing. Bake it in an oven at around 140-160deg freedom and let cool in the oven (slow as possible)

I still have my little Mini blind bag battle bots bag battle bots toys from when I was a kid and I still have a little and I still have a little mecha cat bot Yet I also had 2 of the tentamushi figures I sent one of those to Lisa winters. Always loved this bot as a kid

Robot wars Tridentate. some of the new microbots are amazing, pin bearings with 20K spinning drums. a great group of builders. So right about showing other engineers how to better their machines, sharing knowledge. github.

It is a good idea to use a little lube on the router bit when pattern cutting aluminum, otherwise the chips can stick to the cutter and give poor results.
