Showcasing the Vintage Traynor YT-12 2x12 cab, and I describe how it sounds with good speakers. The Eminence Governor, Swamp Thang, and Wizard.

From a fellow Canuck , nice one, eh! Back in the day, I remember buying Traynor 4x12s for $10 at a garage sale. I also remember seeing roadies push the cabs off the truck; they were fine after dropping 3 feet onto the pavement. Guvs with the Marshall sounded best to my classic rock ears, btw.
@DATT2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Guvs are pretty good. My fav too, in general. We had no idea how good we had it back in the day, when we could pretty much buy a Marshall at the hock shop for like $200, for a full half stack even. Proper just say a crappy work out old amp. I'm glad I managed to score the ones I got.

Best driver demo on the interwebs. You’re funny as hell but the descriptions you give are spot on real world comments. Even though I don’t play the same music as you (I dig the doom) you sold me on the Governor. I have a ST already and I miss my mids. I think two of each in a 412 would kill.
@DATT3 жыл бұрын
Hah Thanks. I did the Gov/Swamp thing is a cab at one point. I preferred the Govs on their own, but it's worth a try if you already have the Swamps.

I've got a '72 YSC-4 cabinet with a mutt set of Greenback-ish speakers in it. A UK GB, 2 eminence squarebacks, and a Weber era Scumback. Same era and construction as this 2x12. Great sounding cabinet. Solid as a rock. Found it in Halifax for $70, unloaded!

$70 unloaded, oh boy, unicorn bud. I'd buy one in a heartbeat for that price.

I did a Governor and a Swamp Thang in a custom Avatar 2x12. It works pretty nicely with a 6505.

Yeah, I'd dig the Gov with that. In the long run, I didn't end up liking the Swamps that much, to play thru, but they are so far my fav recorded.

The Govs were the best. Although the Wizards were great for some of my tests on my traynor 1mod1 and ktre. Now I’m breaking in some V30s. Cool vid though!

I can’t imagine how loud a JCM800 is through an oversized 2x12 closed back cabinet of Eminence Governor speakers. If you don’t think that combination couldn’t rip the doors to hell clear off their hinges, you either have very damaged hearing or you need to bring your amp to a tech and throw it on the bench with a dummy load and check the output power. 4x12 cabinets are for housing more vintage lower wattage speakers with less efficiency to get desired volume. Modern Eminence drivers filling a 4x12, you wouldn’t need anything more than 20 watts of power.
@DATT2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it wasn't a comfortable listening volume. I never play that loud myself. Only ever turn it up like that for testing. It's only the 50 watt, and I am the amp tech, I can confirm it's working properly.

Nobody is a "Metal musician". There are musicians and there are Metal players. Both groups aren't mutually exclusive.

Now you got me thinking. Was about to pull the trigger on some Swamp Thangs, but as a violin stoner player, my desire was to get rid a little of the top end... Oh bugger
@DATT3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think they are designed to add more highs to an otherwise dark sound, hence the marketing "Designed for drop tuning". Now might you, what speakers are you currently running ? And are you running a tube amp ?
@DeadmanDance3 жыл бұрын
@@DATT Running a stock speaker from Boss Nextone. I do some drop C tuning some times, but I still have highs for days in here. Maybe pair it with a darker speaker
@DATT3 жыл бұрын
@@DeadmanDance Oh, solid state. so I can't help with tubes. I see it has tube settings, which setting do you use ? I tend to find EL34's darker. I wish I had more speakers to try, but the Gov would be the darkest of the 3. If it's the open back combo I'm seeing online, an external cab might help. Open backs loose a lot of low end and can make a speaker sound brighter than it really is.

great video thank you. trying to decide to get Wizards or Electro Voice 12L
@DATT2 жыл бұрын
I've never tried the EV's but I've heard good things. Teh Wizards are pretty good, but a touch hollow in the mids. I seem to prefer the Govs. Tho, the Swamps record really well.
@stephenkane24642 жыл бұрын
@@DATT just bought a pair of wizards, now i have to decide whether to get all wizards in my 4x12 or pair it with swamp things or EV's
@DATT2 жыл бұрын
@@stephenkane2464 Ahhh, I dont' know if the swamps will pair well with the Wizards. They are both speakers with a lot of HF responce. It'd be too much highs, I figure. Both those speakers would do well matched with something darker. The Swamps can fill out the lows, but they lack the mid fill I think the wizards need. The Wizard typically pair well with the likes of Governors or Vintage 30's.

Marshall need Resonance pot. 4n7, or 10nF/1 M ohm.
@DATT Жыл бұрын
That might help yeah, I have an aversion to modding my Marshall tho. At least any mods that would put more holes in it.
@miguelrichartmellado2834 Жыл бұрын
@@DATT You can also put a resistor in parallel to the capacitor, and so you don't put a potentiometer, you just have to find the value you're comfortable with, 220k, 330k, 470K etc. You can also try to increase the value of the capacitor I don't think you need more than 10nF, but ..try it..
