I pressure wash literally everything that’s not made of leather! It always seems to do a really good job. I love doing my cotton rugs, saddle pads and nylon and rope halters with a pressure washer in particular.

I've heard that you can revive a stiff old bridle by leaving it a night in a bucket of oil. I've heard quite a few success stories with that one. For the boots, I think it's better to condition them really wel with an oily leather grease, like the heavy duty stuff in a pot for saddles. Let it soak in a bit, polish them with a cloth and after that, you can do the shoe polish. Shoe polish doesn't always hydrate leather very well. It mostly colors and makes the shoe shine.

I've finally gotten the grease out of my white bedding by soaking it in water with baking soda (no idea of ratios) for an hour then washing normally with white wash detergent. So nice. I wonder if that would work on that blanket?

I used coke on a second hand white school shirt of my daughters. It had been washed with dark clothes so was grey. Lots of soaking in Napisan made little difference, so I tried the coke. It just turned the white shirt brown. Needless to say it became a rag as it was not wearable for school anymore.

I don’t own a barn I just do lessons😢. Edit: also I have a saddle pad hack that I know works because I’ve done it! So you use vinegar and warm water and rub on the stain, then you use dish soap to remove the extra dirt and mud or whatever for me it was slime. (Lol dont ask) and I did it on white saddle pad and it worked really well!

On my whites, I used vinegar/borax powder, and made a paste, which I brushed into all black saddle dye spots. (Also used it on sweat and dirt on the underside and around the edges of the pad.) This requires elbow grease. Then, machine washed, again using a dish detergent (Palmolive) plus a little more borax powder. I do two rinses to get out all the cleaners. Wet, I could see some grey shadow where the stain penetrated the cotton. Dry, nothing. And yes, I do store everything clean, dry, wrapped in plastic. Thanks for the tip on using a pressure hose!

White vinegar and baking soda is also perfect for bleaching things. Even horse tails. I dont know any ratios ( 1 part vinegar and 4 parts water sounded familiar). Soak the fabric, hair or whatever need to be bleached for 5 minutes and then rub in the baking soda and wait for a couple of minutes. The vinegar-baking soda- mixture should start bubbeling

Hi Han! Such a great video, that was both interesting and fun to watch! As for cleaning hacks, as you already said, treating stains early on will definitely help ;-) For stains generally, once they are washed in/dried in, it is hardly possible to get them out. It is important to soak the thing that got a stain in water as soon as possible. Warm/hot water for oily stains, cold water for any other and unknown stains. At home we have an industrial grade stain remover to spray on and let it soak in prior to washing. It works wonders, also on oily stains! I like to use baking soda for white polos or white brushing boots, I just let them soak overnight. I did not believe it was possible to wash boots with a pressure washer, I half expected them to fall apart. But with a low setting on the pressure washer and good quality brushing boot it works very well, as we saw :-)

When you have trouble getting rid of the black stains on your saddle pads you can make a pasty combination of blue Dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda. You scrub it in, in a decently thick layer then let it sit until it dries. Once it is dry you can spray it down with the hose then toss it in the washing machine or just use 2 rinse cycle’s in the wash still using your regular detergent and wash cycle. This works really well not only for the black spots on saddle pads but also sweat stains on T-shirts, saddle pads and even works on those stubborn stains on your wraps or horse blankets ( poo stains). Sometimes it will take 2 times depending on how deeply ingrained the stain is but I’ve had it work to the point where saddle pads that were repeatedly blackened by boots, have been able to come completely clean even after having been re-washed for years before hand. Best of luck I recommend making the combination each time before you use it rather than keeping it premixed as it tends to separate overtime

yeah vinegar works great at getting mold out, one of my sister's saddle pads had been put away and when I took it out and looked at it, it had mold on it so we put it in a bucket full of vinegar left it in the bucket for about 1 or 2 days and then pressure washed (or hosed as you said in the video) and let it dry and the sun and wallah! you have a mold free saddle pad! :) :D xD

Cleaning hack: for body oils I use really cheap shampoo, NOT a 2 in 1. And for all other grease, I use straight dish soap. An additional note: many cleaners, even homemade vinegar and lemon cleaners, can cause photosensitivity when mixed with horse sweat. That means that the sun will cause damage to your horse's skin and hair. Rinse, rinse, rinse with clear water before using any cleaned tack on your horse.

Han for your boots if you heat the leather before adding leather conditioner. I use either a heater or put them in an oven that is only warm. It makes the conditioner soak in more. That also removes some minor creasing and improves the flexibility of the leather

The coke hack does work if you soak the areas first! At least 30 minutes! I found the coke is just too diluted when put straight in the washer. Also, the coke will also take out rust stains, just soak 30 minutes and then either pressure wash or throw in the washer.
@ShowjumperDownUnder
@ShowjumperDownUnder 4 жыл бұрын
Coke is good for getting rid of rust on studs. With jumping boots wash them by hand with a hard brush before putting them in the washing machine gets them completely clean, also a wipe over with leather oil adds a bit of shine to the boot. Baby wipes are great for any quick cleaning solutions with gear, a quick wipe over of boots, leather gear etc. before a show does help. Also use baby wipe at shows for wiping over the horses eyes and nose when preparing them for the ring. For super clean and shiney riding boots use a lighter to heat up the leather polish before applying and also finish off your buffing with going over the boots with pantyhose. After washing your horse apply talcum powder to any white socks to keep them clean along with spraying the coat with a conditioning spray so any new stains don't stick as easily. When cleaning out stud holes use a shoeing nail to pick the holes out, is easier and quicker then using those fancy tools that end up breaking.
