I am disabled and I love my soup bowl. It's a different brand (sistema) but I use it for everything, including salad, cold cereal, chile, noodles, baked potatoes, etc. The lid and handle makes transferring food from one room to the next a breeze without spilling anything or burning yourself. The lid also keeps my food warmer for longer after cooking and it allows me to store/seal leftovers right in the same bowl. I have not had any issues carrying it - in fact the handle makes it much easier for me to carry compared to a normal bowl. It's honestly one of my favorite kitchen items.

I disagree with you. I tried to use "generic plastic kitchenware" (tupperware is a brand afaik) in the microwave, and it did melt. Microwave-able things are made from special plastics, so it's good that they are clearly distinct. I don't argue that their prices are overinflated, though.

Take it from someone who has made this mistake: if your microwaveable lid has a vent, use it. Not using the vent can cause warping from the build up of steam and heat. Lid never fits right after that. Most products don't warn you about that, but it's a risk with all of them.

Great review, James. For fresh corn, cook in the husk for about 2 minutes per ear. Remove from the microwave and cut off the big end. You can cut it first if you like. Squeeze the small end and the corn will slide right out of the husk with almost all of the silks left behind. Throw the husks away and you are done.

I clean houses for work (vacation rentals) and often bring a pack of ramen for lunch. I feel like the soup mug would be perfect for work for me because when I've microwaved in a bowl, it frequently will boil over and make a mess in the microwave, and so I usually take the time to boil it on the stove but that also creates extra cleanup and takes longer. Comment on the Veg steamer: About a year ago I purchased a microwave dinner that came with a steamer tray, I saved it and have used it successfully for a year now, it holds enough for two. Example: We cook Asparagus in it all the time, and the amount it holds is borderline to much for two people. I would say the Veg Steamer is unnecessary for what it does, just buy yourself a a frozen meal with one in it, and it most likely will be cheaper and function just well if not better. My two cents

I love your videos man. You’re comedic yet do real world situations in your reviews. Now sure your experiments aren’t scientific but I feel that you use relatable situations and accurate tests then provide your opinion as to if a product is good or not. I’ve bought a couple products that you’ve reviewed just off the fact that I enjoyed your review. Considering I’m in college this episode is extremely helpful and I might buy the soup bowl thing considering I’m always making Ramen lol. Thanks for the honest reviews James!

Your channel is so oddly addicting lol. Just a friendly tip though on this product, you were confused on the reheat vent thing. Remember microwaving something that's already cooked isn't additionally cooking it you're just reheating it. rule of thumb if you can eat it directly out of its container without doing anything to it it's already cooked. It may not be the most tasty way to eat it but it is already cooked, thus even though it may be the first time you're heating it it's not the first time it's been heated and cooked. 😉

For the veggie steamer, I would have tried leaving it in the microwave for a minute or two after cooking so that it continues to cook a little more in that environment. This method seems to work well with things like my ramen cooker and mac & cheese cooker, not sure how much that would vary in terms of veggies tho.

I put a whole ear of corn, with husk and silk, in the microwave. Set for 4 minutes, cook. Using hot pad, bring to cutting board and cut about one inch off stem end. Using hot pad, grab silk end and squeeze. The corn slides out the bottom, cut end. The silk does not stay on the cob. It comes away with the husk. No water to dilute corn flavor. Two ears, 8 minutes. Try it. Even my Norwegian brother-in-law converted to this method. No cost but the corn.

Useless wastes of plastic, everything cooked here can easily be done in a glass or ceramic dish. You can also cook corn in the husk in a microwave, just trim off excess bits on both ends to fit in a smaller machine and take off the outer leaves if they are dry. I cook it for 90 seconds then turn over and cook for another 90 seconds though my microwave is kind of crap and old so might not take as long in a better machine.

I soak the corn in water with the husks wrapped back on on after unshucking it, for a few minutes too, which develops steam inside the husk...works great! Oh, and free!

I’ve been using the Sistema microwaveable containers, including something similar to the soup mug, for about 10 years now. They’re absolutely brilliant! I’ve been so impressed with the brand that I also stocked up on their ‘to-go’ containers for salads, cereal, snacks, etc. The only fail has been the rice cooker, which I wouldn’t recommend at all. Didn’t cook the rice sufficiently so you end up overcooking it, and the process eventually takes longer than just cooking rice on a stovetop or heating a packet of microwaveable rice.
