Today I'm testing out a kitchen peeler marketed online and on television. The TV version is the "Ultimate Irish Peeler" although this Amazon version appears to pre-date that item by a couple years. Most of my demonstrations re-create those shown in the As Seen on TV commercial. I also included a bonus review of Jeff's Famous Jerky at the end. I originally referred to this as a short video because the bonus segment wasn't planned until after that was filmed! :)

I bought a stainless julienne peeler a while back and that really makes your job a whole lot faster. They're even better than a mandolin slicer since you don't have as much cleanup. That's not for everything you have to julienne but it makes julienning carrots and the like a lot easier.

I have both styles of peelers in my kitchen albeit not these particular brands. I also don’t like the way you have to hold/use the Irish style peeler and I have cut myself several times because of that. However it is much more efficient on thick skinned veggies such as squash and rutabaga. So I do use it for those items but I now stick a fork in the veggie to hold it in place and save my fingers from harm.

Great review, James! When it comes to shredding cabbage, I found a restaurant supply store near me that sells 5 lb bags of shredded cabbage coleslaw mix for about $5. Going both ways with a peeler is a skill that usually takes a bit of practice. I was a chef for about a year, and I never did enough peeling to bother to practice it. It's definitely a handheld multi purpose peeler, as opposed to a potato peeler or a full sized multipurpose peeler. I think it's pretty awesome for smaller tasks or for someone who does not want to own a full sized peeler.

I’m not surprised that the grater failed with cheese. That style grater is made for garlic or ginger (like you mentioned) - something you want to end up more mushy. Or maybe a hard cheese that you want powdery, like Parmesan. Grated (turned into mush/powder) vs shredded )cut into short fine strips). Not critical…just educational! Keep up the good work!

Hey James me and the kids love the show and always watch together. We all are wondering is there an Ikea near you, most of the things you review, we have the Ikea version, and they are not perfect but they are for yhe price. Like the peeler, we buy 2 or 3 every year or so, they cost a dollar and are very sharp. Also we got a 3pc knife set that only cost 10 and stays sharp.

When you held up the packs of jerky for the first time, and I saw the yellow label I instantly thought, is that ALPO flavored jerky? I think the label looks like the ALPO can from the 70s.

There's ad I saw for 3 pans you can stack on top of each other and cook 3 different foods at a time. I can't find the ad. It shows you can throw out the rest of your pans. I'd like to know if it works.

I would rather use a grater to shred cabbage. I agree that I wouldn't want to push the peeler forward, I thought this when you did that review for the other peelers. Really I prefer the style of the OXO, but my mom got a Y shaped one at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Then, she found some little ones that I think are supposed to be Swiss? She said they are very sharp. Personally, I did agree with her that the eye remover on the small peelers were great. I still prefer the OXO where I feel more in control. Aaaah, the beef jerky makes me long for Korean BBQ Beef Jerky I tasted at Costo a few years ago.

The soft jerky is probably air dried. I've had some that was moist and crumbly and it was air dried. It is very good.😋

You should do a review on those crappy video ads when you see video ads before the video starts or after videos! Think of as seen on online video! and try out their products to see if its a hit or is it junk!

That's a peeler that everyone can appreciate. Especially Granma. Granma's got arthritis, she can't be doing kitchen work with any other kind o tools.

The potato eye remover would have worked if you had Twisted it like you did the Oxo one. Thanks for the demo. I use a similar peeler that would look like one half of that one and you do pull away from yourself. If you use that longer you might like it better.

Go for the oxo every time. With a potato I like to peel a complete strip or a circle all the way around longways down over and back up to the start and only with the oxo - then peel a strip all the way around the the shorter girth. That peels most of the potato, leaving about 4 smaller patches to zip off in a jiffy. Im convinced the green one is not so safe to use. You - or me, needs a learners permit before a qualifed drivers licence to use one of those and make sure you never exceed the speed limit round corners on one of those green ones. Slow down and watch out for the unexpected, especially in slipery conditions. Sincerely take care.

I wish you would have compared it to an oxo y peeler. Comparing it to a side peeler is so completely different.

I have an old classic peeler and I can do the back and forth with that one. So these "new" ones are nothing new IMO.
