I make my own knifes and im telling you now. My knife can cut through a car windscreen. Literally like butter. I just use my secret blend of metal alloy then I sharpen then on my home made stone I made from my children's baby teeth after they've had just afew wipes over those my knifes are a higher quality though. Just incredible. I made Donald trump one and he loves it. Loves it.

also everyone keep in mind that slicing and pushing are different types of cuts and you will need to choose what kind of edge you want for any given knife. most EDCs will be better off with a toothier edge that won't be as good as push cutting
@MrMZaccone
@MrMZaccone 2 жыл бұрын
The same company also makes a more sophisticated system that can measure all aspects of the edge including slicing cuts. That system is why I can tell you that you're wrong about "toothy" edges.
@jawaring4367
@jawaring4367 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrMZaccone Toothy edges are more versatile and take a fraction of the time to sharpen and keep sharp. A mirror finish "scary sharp" edge is a surefire way to tell that someone only Everyday Caries a knife instead of Everyday Uses a knife. But if all you use your knife for its cutting paper to show people how sharp it is, then sure, spend hours polishing it. It's not my time and money being wasted, I'm not gonna tell you to stop
@MrMZaccone
@MrMZaccone 2 жыл бұрын
@@jawaring4367 Nope. All the objective research says you're wrong. That's objective research, not anecdotal bullshit. And I can maintain such an edge at 150 Brubacher or less, all day, with an extra fine ceramic rod I carry and the leather belt I wear routinely. I'd rather start with mirror polish and not need it than need it and not have it. There's nothing "versatile" about pretending your saw is a knife.
@jawaring4367
@jawaring4367 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrMZaccone claiming a toothy edge is saw-like makes you look like a clown. You said you'd rather have it in case you ever needed it, but you will never need an edge that sharp on an EDC. You can shave with a 600 grit toothy edge ffs. And what objective testing are you referencing? I would love to see it. I'd also love to see these other supposed testing methods you mentioned above because the website for these testers shows nothing but push-cut testers using a single medium.

I don’t know what it was about your test in this video but I feel it should have been around what I got because of the tests I see you do with your knives after you are done sharpening them. I would say get some test clips and do some tests with them because they are more consistent and accurate most of the time.

Promise I'm not trying to be a dick here, but it's hard not to sound like one when pointing this out - if your business is in sharpening knives, then a reliable, repeatable, broadly relevant (and ideally inexpensive/easy to perform) test that tells you how sharp an edge is, is exactly what you're going to want at the end of the day. Like if you're a cook, then feedback about the taste of your food is pretty helpful, yeah? 👍

What are the angles that one is sharpened at, vid makes it look like the bevels are pretty significant. Guessing 17 degree?

So it tests Obsidian at 0-10?? Because Obsidian is magnitudes sharper than manmade edges, being that it can be a molecule thin (thick).

Nice to see that you are using BESS C scale correctly. Nice to see consistency in the how sharp your knife was.

Pretty good numbers though, especially if that's free hand. "Sharpness" is really nothing more than unit pressure ... Period.
