Yes. This. I don’t know how Barry doesn’t know that eggs just taste different when scrambled or fried. I get that he wanted to demo the egg separator but it would have been better if he had made mayo out of the yolk and done something else with the white. I don’t know what else, just something else. Hey Barry, they do taste different. Try a burger with a fried egg vs a scrambled one. Your life will change. Not by much but still.

I can’t be the first. The cereal is sold by weight. The packaging allows a bubble of air to allow cushioning and lessen crushing. In the 1950s - 1960s morning managers, usually moms, saved the plastic packaging to use again for food storage. Plastic food storage bags were not available and when they were they were considered expensive.

So, I love your show! There is a reason why they put air in the bags of cereal, chips/crisps, etc., because of changes in altitudes, changes in air pressures, etc., and when transporting them, the bags will explode without air. Just FYI. I drove a semi-truck and went over the Rocky Mountains; some bags of chips did not have enough air, so boxes exploded with chips everywhere when we arrived. Live and learn. lol

I know you hate tea, Barry, but just once, try the tea with a splash of milk and a spoonful of sugar. Stir very well. You might be surprised. Black tea is great, don't get me wrong, but it's usually too bitter for some people to cope with. The milk takes that edge off. I drink about six cups of various loose leaf teas every day - really good tea has big leaves that are rolled, and the flavour is extraordinarily good. I drink coffee about twice a month. It always smells far better than it tastes - and I include that coffee that has been through a Civet cat, and is the most expensive you can get. Tried it once - smelled wonderful. Tasted - of coffee.
@Silentgrace11
@Silentgrace11 17 күн бұрын
Coffee, much like tea, has various different flavor profiles and ingredients they pair well with 😉 As you explore more coffee and what makes it taste “good” for you, you start to figure out the why and how to achieve that flavor you enjoy. I think, until you find a way that you like, it inevitably tastes like leaf juice or bean juice. That being said, it’s all on taste preference at the end of the day. I’m more of a coffee person than a tea person personally, but honestly both are a fabulous part of the day.
@cheshkat6321
@cheshkat6321 17 күн бұрын
@@Silentgrace11Yes. So many ways to make coffee and tea that I like both. Different blends of tea, especially in loose leaf, to explore. I grew up knowing only black tea with a lot of sugar and ice. But as an adult I discovered a coffee and tea shop that I loved making new flavor discoveries. I don't suppose those shops are too common these days. But I never tire of the nearly infinite flavor combinations of tea. Some can be grown in the garden like mint, chamomile, fever few, raspberry leaves, etc. I grew mint for my late husband because I didn't like mint. But fresh mint tastes better than anything store bought with mint so I became a fan of it in tea.

@@cheshkat6321- What a lovely reply. If I were given the choice of tea or coffee, I'd always go for tea. It refreshes, and is a good thirst quencher, unlike coffee. I generally drink single origin teas, like Darjeeling, Ceylon, Kenya, Assam, Yunnan Green - but I do like Mint tea, Earl Grey, and, possibly my favourite, Chai. Just Chai, not 'Chai tea' as I have heard people ordering - 'Chai' is the Indian word for tea. So if you ask for a 'Chai tea', you are asking for a 'Tea Tea'. 🤔🤔🤔 But enjoy what you want to enjoy, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else. 👍👍👍

For me, the slimy texture of eggs is too disgusting to separate by hand. I can't wash my hands fast enough separating eggs with the shells. Just cracking an egg without separating gets yolk/whites on my fingers and is so irritating that I can't crack a bunch of eggs without washing my hands in between. When I was younger, separating by hand was the only method I was taught. But the feeling of slimy eggs made my skin crawl and I would drop the egg, and not always in a bowl.

re cocoa puffs: a) there was minimal head space in it when it was filled, it's settled during shipping. b) cereal boxes come in a few standard sizes, for multiple reasons: ease of supermarket shelving schematics, to fight for shelf space among competition, and to appeal to customers. A smaller box will actually harm their market share as they appear to consumers *before purchase* to have less product than the next cereal over (never mind equal weights that no one read). Even if you got *EVERYONE* to change packing method so that the head space doesn't form, you'll still have denser and more airy cereals that will need larger or smaller boxes for the same weight (think Kix vs Grapenuts vs Corn flakes). Besides, if you're serious about waste and getting what you paid for and yada yada, go fill your own container from a bulk bin.

That tea pot is adorable. I love it when novelty kitsch serves an actual purpose. Best test for the salt & pepper pots: Old school pharmacist's balance scale. That's if you're going for the numbers. For real-world use, it's mashed potatoes, buttered up in the pan, use an ice cream scoop to plate up 2 identical portions, each portion gets 5 shakes of salt, 5 of pepper. Grading scale is bland/wondering if the pots were filled | perfectly seasoned | unbearably salty/peppery. Burger King sells millions of omelet patties on their breakfast sandwiches every day. Sorry, mate. The one thing I don't like about burger presses is they tend to make the burger too dense, making it a tougher chew. Now, if I had a burger press specifically designed to seal up a stuffed burger, like what they use at Matt's Bar (home of the Juicy Luicy), I'd be a very happy man. For the crunch cup, that's easy. Outer chamber is strawberry & grape Nerds, inner chamber is mini M&Ms...or possibly Sixlets.

as for testing the salt shakers, the only thing I can think of would be putting a piece of black card board on the table, do a couple of shakes with each one from the same height, and then you have a visual of if they do an even spread or not. I doubt there'd be much difference. A bunch of holes in a lid is pretty simple technology ;)

I have the jar opener. Best one I’ve used because I have severe hand arthritis and it gives enough leverage and doesn’t take up much room in a drawer.

I just don’t get those „put your dirty whisks here“ things. Why would I need a dedicated gadget? I‘ve got plenty of plates I can use for that. They also fit way more nicely into the dishwasher.

Salt and pepper mil... - ease of using, refill and washing - type of mill (plastic, metal), will it get rusty - number of turns to get an amount - flexibility on grain size - flexibility on what can be ground (harder or softer ingredients) - colours available for matching kitchen - other aesthetics

I really feel these jar opener gadgets are made for people with severe arthritis. My mother can barely use her hands anymore, and holding a round lid is impossible for her. She can hold (with difficulty) a handle though, so she might be able to use this gadget. I have a gadget for opening lids that is a sort of round piece of very pliable silicone textured like sandpaper and it helps you grip the lid, so yeah, I think real sandpaper might do the same thing.

@@mrbarrylewis yep just wrap it over the lid and open the sand grips the lid making it much easier to open. Obviously if one has arthritis or other hand issues then these openers would probably be easier. I have small hands so I always find jars with large lids hard to open until my dad recommended sandpaper. Now I can open them up myself without having to get a man to. Also for stubborn soft drink bottles that the seal isn't cut properly sand paper works great with out hurtling my hand

That cereal thing is made for people woth sensoryissues. I would LOVE one, because ain't nothing sadder than soggy coco pops 😢 it also takes some time to eat, so I usually eat my cereal from a dry bowl with a glass of milk 😅

Testing salt and pepper mills: I would want to know how easily they grind, how many turns you have to do to get the amount you want, and whether the ground up bits are the right size with no big bits sneaking out. You could get some scales which measure very small amounts, such as might be used with chemicals (for, um, chemistry experiments and of course not for anything illegal) and see what weight you get out with five turns. If you had a suitable fine sieve you could use that to test whether any too big bits come out. Oh and you could test them for leakiness by just shaking them over a piece of paper and seeing what comes out.

Egg separator looked pretty decent compared to the spoon type that rests on a cup with a handle that can get flipped by accident. Burger press probably needs a disc of greaseproof paper to line the lid. Egg rings have existed for a very long time, great for making a fried egg to fit in a roll with bacon and lorne sausage Tilt on the cup thing looked too much to be comfortable and if the lids not secure you could end up leaking milk everywhere Test for salt and pepper pots is is it a steady stream of salt/pepper or do they need a vigorous shaking, how do they cope with moisture stopping the flow or if its a grinder how much mess if left on the table

I wish the crunch cup was invented when I was little. I hate soggy cereal . depending on the cereal I'd have the milk in a cup on the site and just eat the dry cereal. so this cup would have been perfect for me when I was little.

definitely need the utensil tray! im always washing so much knives cos i put one in the sink after using it so then i need to take a new knife again and end up using 2 to make a sandwich (one for spreading and one for cutting, im not smart as i put the knife immediately in the sink as i have no other place to rest it on - until now!) also i have a gadget that creates "omelette patties" in the microwave! cant do without it.

Salt and pepper - Blind test tasting to see what one dispenses the perfect amount on say Avo / corn/ eggs (foods that really do well with salt and pepper), either get some one to prep each food with 1 then 2 then 3 shakes each on a sample for you to test .... or get you family to blind test for you .

Hey Barry I think you got a bit of something on the camera lens and now I can't unsee it. 5:15 you can see it near the right edge of the yellow cutting board and then track it before and after. For the salt and pepper containers I would judge: Does the product come out if the container is completely inverted? How much product comes out per a shake? (I don't know how sensitive the scales you have available are but for me I don't want to have to shake forever to get pepper or salt.) If a pepper container contains a grinder is it adjustable and to what range? What is the output of the grinder? How easy are these containers to fill?

- I have that exact utensil rest (wouldn't have considered it a gadget though). I would definitely recommend it - I've had it for years and it still looks new and it's fine in the dishwasher as well. My only gripe is that I wish that it was slightly bigger. - I completely disagree agree with you about soggy cereal! Cereal needs to be crunchy - when I was younger I actually used to eat dry cereal with a glass of milk, because I couldn't stand the sogginess. - That "air" is not only not air, but also serves a purpose. It works a bit like bubble wrap (only with the product inside the bubble) to protect the product and the gases also keep it fresh. Without the protective gases, you'd end up with slightly stale crumbs instead of cereal or crisps or whatever.

For the salt and pepper test you could weigh how much salt and pepper you could grind in say 30 secs for each one and as another test weigh how much salt and pepper you could grind given a set amount of turns, say 25 turns? Great video as always 👍☕

Salt and Pepper gromders. I use them to grind sea salt and peppercorns (or course) but also any other whole spices. One I have sea salt and dried garlic bits. Cardamom seed is good. Cilantro seed. allspice. fennel. make an epices fines mix. have fun barry.

That milk thing works like the old juice cans where one had to use a church key to open opposite sides of the top of the can. One hole for pouring, the other allowed air flow to empty the can easier.

It is used multiple times per day so simple yet effective, it does nothing else bar what it was designed for a happy mum lol
