You can use slender rush and make it as thick as you want but you don't need much it's tougher than it looks and it lasts for years add some bees wax and it works great.

already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). kzfaq.infoUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

great video. i just want to add that besides the pin hook, the other two really were primitive hooks used long ago and took a certain skill and finesse to make and use properly.

Brandon, when I was a young guy we would use an open safety pin to catch fish in a small stream but, try this; we would use string for line instead of fishing line. We would tie a grasshopper or worm on the string. We let them swallow the bait entire;y until it was in their stomach and catch them with no hook at all. Loved this video. Brought back lots of memories.

Brendan, this was a great video. I give you an A+ for doing all 3 hooks and making them yourself. The gorge hook is probably not really a catch and release hook dont you think? Have you ever learned about using horse hair fishing line and hooks tied on without eyelets in them? Very interesting as this was angling in the 17th and 18th century. There is even a store or two that sells on line, the authentic period correct tackle to do this. It would be fun to see you trying it.

Fish Everything yes, but after he figured out that he was jerking too hard he did a nice slow pull and started bringing in fish. The problem with the hard jerk is that none of his hooks had barbs like a modern fish hook. So when he jerked real hard and then let up the hook would come right out of the hole it made. When he went to a nice steady pull after the fish caught he was successfully bringing up fish on all of the hooks.

Ive used a paperclip before, and since they are easier to bend, than a pin, they were easier to modify for smaller or larger fish. I'd assume a bobby pin might work too, if you sharpen it a bit.

The double pointed fishing Implement is called a Gorge it is made not to Lodge in the fish's mouth or its throat it is baited so that way the fish can completely swallow it and lodges in its gut basically the fish does die retrieving it but you got food and more bait
