Something really odd has been happening to the environment in England, some shenanigans . They blame it on climate change and loss of habitat but I can't see it. The birds are disappearing because the insects are, and cold blooded insects thrive in warm temperatures. Once you couldn't drive without getting a windscreen load of insects. There were still plenty of insects in the early 2000, but rapidly after that they started plummeting. Even big ants nests are a rarity in urban gardens, hover flies, once incredibly numerous, are rare. You'd get clouds of midges, even they're not around as much any more.

Very easy to make. My coworker & I made one w/ hardware cloth & the wires from 1-2 or 3 pants hanger bought @ a thrift store. Make a cage from the hardware cloth (use wire & hognose pliers to connect the sides). Make 2 entrances in the sides & a door on top (for removal). For the entrances, be sure to leave a ledge the birds will have to step over in order to enter, maybe 1-1.5" tall. Attach to a solid base. Bait the trap for 2-3 days so they get comfy going in/out. After that, attach the rods from the pants hanger w/ wire to the doorway so the bottoms hang INSIDE the ledge @ the bottom of the doorways; be sure these are no more than 1.5 - 2.5" apart. The bottoms catching on the ledge make these into 1-way doors, & aren't so heavy the pigeons mind walking under them. You'll be amazed at how easily you'll trap them.

You need to IGNORE any/all negative comments about killing these birds. They don't understand that they are one of the biggest reasons why native species are in trouble. So keep doing what your doing and let them vent but do not let them change your mind about getting rid of them. Thanks alot and keep up the great grest work

@@floyd2386 "an insect or other small animal that harms or destroys garden plants, trees, etc."(Dictionary.com) sparrows are not known for their destruction of plants they are known for their damage to buildings and water pipes caused by both their corrosive poop and their troublesome nesting areas. @@torianholt2752 Mexican Grackles are all over the Southwest US. They're beautiful, elegant birds with a fun personality, but they tend to be big bullies around their roost and make TONS of noise. All the agriculture in the Sonoran desert made it passable for a number of species, including grackles, inca doves, and some hummingbirds. It's debatable whether or not they should be called invasive, but they're here to stay.

They are a nuisance. They've built nests in my chimney. I'm afraid of heights, so I had to have my brother come over to clear out my chimney before firing up my furnace every year. Had my brother not stumbled across the nest one day while caulking around the chimney , I couldve died from carbon monoxide poisoning from the blockage. Ive also found sparrow nests between the AC and my house many times.

I use this all the time! Great trap. Living on a farm the house sparrows are so invasive. In the last month I've caught 72 young sparrows. I'd like to share the short clip from today of the 11 in the trap I have. Best to put water in the trap and to always leave one bird in there too bait em in.
