Yep. I adore vaseline but vaseline alone is useless for my lips, I need hydration and lipids, and then seal that in (and there are occlusive lip oil and lip gloss formulas that stay put better than vaseline for me too).

@@Call-me-Al Don't know if you want recommendations/if you have any allergies, but I have Chronic Dry Lip and when it's really bad, Nuxe Rêve de Miel (in a pot) under a thick layer of Vaseline overnight can help massively! For me, they work very well to soothe the cracks and splits that have already happened and then prevent new ones from forming. I've tried other overnight lip masks, but they have sometimes made my lips worse (I had a bad reaction to the Laneige one, for example). Anyway, if you are looking for something to layer the Vaseline with, that has worked for me (but maybe not you, I don't know! Maybe this is a horrible combination to someone else!)!

Also, the layer can be very waterproof while letting moisture evaporate - waterproof doesn't actually mean occlusive. e.g. Medical barrier products used for incontinence or around edges of wounds or ileostomas. These usually contain film-forming silicones that protect skin well from urine/excessive sweat/pus, but are highly "breathable", meaning water *vapor* passes through fine (otherwise skin would get macerated & completely destroyed).

Talking about how an occlusive works with your skin is sooooo true. Anyone who thinks all occlusives are the same for all lips have never heard about how polarizing lanolin is. For lots of people it's the god send lip balm occlusive. For others it actually makes things worse (me). Could you do a vid on lash serums/ products? Everyone is like "use Vaseline, use castor oil, use aloe" someone has got to be wrong 😅 I feel like it's another rosemary oil situation
@db-gb5xi3 ай бұрын
There's the whole prostaglandin or not lash serum thing. Some people have no issue with them but enough people do so you now have serums without them including a couple developed by ophthalmologists (at least one of which is based around castor oil).
@corneliahanimann21733 ай бұрын
I think actually this one has a different background.( this is not an educated opinion but a guess from a random person) I think people don't realize how using eye make up remover daily and physically rubbing on your eyelashes every day will cause them to get thinner, at least that would make sense to me, and I think simply having a care routine where time is dedicated to preserving lashes or at least not have them in waterproof mascara will be enough to notice that they get longer than they usually do? I also assume that anythimg that doesn't cause you to have an allergic reaction is probably why you have brands now that make them and fifferent products that work for different people.
@kogumasmommy3 ай бұрын
I think it's misleading language. I think lash serums that don't have steroids (castor oil, the ordinary lash serum, etude house lash serum, regular occlusives like vaseline, etc) will condition your lashes and minimize breakage esp for people who use waterproof mascara which is more damaging than regular. Conditioned lashes are arguably healthier and fuller looking and some say the minimization of lashes breaking off prematurely means they can grow to a longer length since they're on your lashline for longer. But they def are not inducing growth. Only steroids like prostaglandin can do that. But using words like "my lashes are so much more conditioned" will not get the same engagement as "my lashes are so much longer" I can only use waterproof mascara but hated how often an eyelash would fall off and get into my eye. So i started trying different conditioning lash serums and I've noticed a decrease in how many lashes I lost and overall my lashes do look healthier and maybe even thicker. I'd never say that they're GROWING but I'm also not someone with a camera trying to get views and clicks
@Partyhatpossum3 ай бұрын
@@kogumasmommyyeah “conditioned” won’t garner clicks. I used to use waterproof mascara but hated how difficult it was to get it all off and no matter what I tried I’d get panda eyes. I use tubing mascara now and both of those problems were solved. And I lose eyelashes far less often.
@Call-me-Al3 ай бұрын
@@corneliahanimann2173 I actively lightly tug my lashes near daily because i kept getting loose eyelashes in my eyes so often as a kid that it was starting to feel almost traumatizing. Me tugging on my lashes for decades didn't make even a quarter as much of a difference for my lash health as solving my decades long iron deficiency, it was that bad. I'm happy with my lash length and follicle density, I just need to use mascara to make the color even (pigment loss in the lash tips, unsurprisingly considering the daily wear on the strands).

I don't like most chapsticks because they don't hydrate, they just create a barrier which doesn't help me since my lips are already dry. I strongly recommend liquid chapstick, I use aquaphor (idk if all liquid chapstick works the same so try that one first). Ever since I started using liquid chapstick I genuinely can't stand regular chapstick because of how unhelpful and drying they are. I've also used overnight liquid chapstick and it's thicker and makes your lips very soft, idk what brand it was tho.
@yourfuturewaifu90613 ай бұрын
Same. Once my lips are in good condition, occlusives are great, but when they're crusty, dusty and should be in jail, I need moisture, healing and lip Jesus.
@grannyweatherwax80053 ай бұрын
I'd suggest calling what you use lip balm and not chapstick, because that is a brand name and a specific product. Calling it chapstick first made me think you were doing an ad. When I realized it's not an ad (I think) then I have no idea what specific products you are even talking about. I agree most lip balm does nothing to hydrate or heal dry lips, but I'd like to know what did help so I can try it myself.
@gramplolo75303 ай бұрын
@@grannyweatherwax8005 why would a comment be an ad, especially from a non brand account lol. Idk where you live but literally everyone calls lipbalm chapstick, it's synonymous, and it's not because they're using the brand chapstick (I didn't even realize it was a brand name until your comment). The only brand I mentioned is aquaphor, it's what I use.
