Testing PS2 OPL With Light Gun Accessory and Time Crisis 2 (SMB Method) 2021

Күн бұрынToday's video is not a tutorial per say, but a quick showcase of using my PS2 slim with the TP Link travel router (TL-WR902AC) to share a game from usb over SMB to the PS2, and playing Time Crisis 2 on my old school CRT TV. In short, light gun games do work.
Although this game does work on USB, I had issues where it would randomly freeze but when I moved over to SMB, I had no issues whatsoever.
Maybe your results may vary if you are using USB, but if you get into a similar situation, then consider SMB too! Enjoy!

Awesome just awesome I found two light guns locally been playing Time Crisis 2 but I can't seem to get Time Crisis 3 to load OPL over USB or Internet Ninja Assault is fun too :D

This not working for anyone? Have everything set up correctly but cannot get my guncon 2 to work. Yes I am using a CRT. Tried multiple different versions of OPL. Are there some settings I am missing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmm, from what I remember no matter what method I used to load the game, my ps2 lightgun works with my crt. Not sure why it wouldn't work on yours, even if we take OPL loading method out of the equation (shouldn't matter if smb, internal hdd, usb, etc)

@@leroygates3239 BDM = Block Device Manager OPL *does* support DS3/4 via Bluetooth as well as USB!

Why do you run the games through a router via usb? Wouldn't the USB to ethernet be a bottleneck on the usb port here? Having issues on a PS2 slim using lightgun games with OPL, only TimeCrisis 2 works out of all tested ps2 and ps1 games with Guncon 1's. Waiting on a Guncon2 y cable to test that, but another step I want to take is hosting the games off my desktop and routing them across my router to the ps2. If I understand it correctly, that should be faster than the external hdd plugged in via one of the front slower usb's. Maybe your USB drive uses usb 3.0 and thus is faster? I would love to hear your answer here. I bought this ps2 off of ebay, and most games launch, it uses mcboot via memcard 1. I am confused as your video also says this doesn't work but it seems to be working for me.

Sorry for late response. The mini router has usb 2.0 port, which is more than enough to go through SMB and to the PS2. The PS2 front usb ports are 1.1, which is ok but sometimes lags hard depending on what game. I think I had one game issue where it wasn't working via usb but it worked via smb, or maybe it was vice versa? Regardless, as long as you got your favorite game working, then awesome.

I use my japanese PS1 Guncon (G-con45) on Opl with my Fat PS2 by internal HDD, only bad thing about it's that some games don't support the Ps1 guncon on US region, so I discovered on Wikipedia that the PAL versions from Time Crisis 3 and Crisis Zone do support the Ps1 Guncon(G-con45) so thanks to OPL i just use the GSM option and force ntsc mode and it works. Wishing that popstarter had support for the light gun accessories, that way I could just copy my PS1 Time Crisis on the HDD too. Btw Time Crisis 2 freezes on level 2 on OPL running from the internal HDD so if anyone who wants to play it, I strongly suggested to use a DVD or the SMB Method.

Take a look at the "Gunvari Collection"! I ought to remember that it or another Time Crisis has Time Crisis 1 included and works like a PS2-Game!

Maybe your hard drive is not compatible, Time Crisis 2 used to work terrible on my first hdd, I tried with another one and it worked flawlessly on all the levels.

My hard drive does not seem to work if I plug in my light gun. I can't launch OPL if I also have my light gun plugged in. I didn't check if my ps2s rumble feature was working prior to this but I think plugging them both in destroyed it. I used a force feedback light gun (the desert eagle)

I don't know about this one, I know I had tested with usb with my guncon 2 controller, no issues with usb or not enough power or anything like that.

Hi there.. I've got OPL (10th anniversary edition) on my PS2 fat, with a bunch of ps2 games installed through an internal HDD and also some Ps1 games running through a USB. I have got a Guncon 1, running on a CRT with composite cables. However, whenever I boot a PS1 game, like say, Point Blank 1, The game recognizes the light gun and can fire, but does not register the dot on the screen. I've tried the Guncon using both the gray adaptor to the back of the ps2 and going straight to the tv screen yellow port too, but still no luck... I'm wondering if anyone else can run gun-con games on OPL without any issues, or maybe my guncon is just busted.

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia The Guncon does work! But after looking a little more specifically, I was running POPSTARTER on the ps2, which apparently requires additonal codex to run PS1 guncon games.. So instead I softmodded a PS1 I had using FREEPSXBOOT and am just running burnt games on it instead.

Hi I have a problem with time crisis 2 I bought the game on disc and it didn't read so I tried installing it to HDD and it had read errors so I downloaded a backup and it came in two files bin and cue. I used opl manager to convert the bin file to iso and put it on my HDD and it works but the main menu music where you can choose single player, splitscreen, dual gun etc is looped and skips over and over. Is this because of the cue file and if so how do I convert the two files to a CD iso?

The game is 700MB right? So it is a cd game so put the bin and cue file into the "CD" folder and see if OPL can load it. I don't recall off hand main menu music being looped over

Do games run at full speed through ethernet like the fmv's don't buffer & game's run full speed? Edit: think you answered my question, but just to clarify, you'd say they run as fast through ethernet as they do internal hdd on phat?

Yes that is correct from the games I've tried. If you have fat internal and it works for you, then keep on doing it.

ooh im in the middle of doing a ilink set up with 2 36" crts. can i connect 2 ps2 to play isos from my mini server and ilink them so i can play time crisis on 2 screens??? would be nice so i dont have to buy 2 hdds

I need some hepl, I recently bought a light gun (not a real guncon, it's a Foston model, pretty cool btw, but I can't find any info about it), and it works flawlessly on my PS1 console with Time Crisis, but on PS2, I've tested with TC 2 and TC3 and none of them worked, My PS2 is equipped with matrix chip with Infinity 1.93 installed. One thing I noticed, it's that this pistol doesn't have an USB port, just the PS2/PS1 port and the yellow T cable, which is connected to the TV. The pistol gets powered, but the calibration screen doens't show up and the game doesn't take any command from the pistol.

I suspect you need a controller for ps2 that needs usb cable which is different than ps1. I technically have two different guns, for made for ps1, and then a different gun made for ps2.

I've found some info about mine, it's a Castle Spirit model, manufactured by Hais (an old Chinese accessories brand for videogames), exactly like Blaze Scorpion model, with a few buttons in different places. There's some videos and photos of people playing with both models on PS2, which makes me think that my console is having issues with screen compatibility.

Is there an easy way to have freemcboot boot straight into OPL so as to work with a USB pad? Is it possible to use a USB pad like the ps3/ps4 controller on freemcboot without OPL? The reason I ask is because I have a fat PS2 with a broken controller port connector and I could just load freemcboot from a hard drive but I can't use a USB pad until I launch the newest OPL?

PS3 or PS4 controller needs pad emu inside OPL. I do not know if its possible to have FMCB autoboot into OPL because FMCB always boots into that main screen.

If the game is about 4gb or less, put the ISO into the 'DVD' folder, and then use opl manager to rename the game properly for OPL use. This should help.

I have the grey guncon controller that is made for ps1, but I haven't got a chance to try it out on the ps2. I mechpwn this ps2 so it can play ps1 backup discs natively so I suspect that will work. I can test it again (assuming my laser is still good), or I can do some kind of pop starter test.

Quick update: burnt disc with mechapwn works fine with die hard Trilogy with Guncon patch. But playing via USB or smb game doesn't detect the gun. Ps1 Gamepad works fine in all cases. So if you want to use the gun, then use burnt disc with mechapwn, or real PS1, or PS2 with modchip.

PLEASE TEST MX4SIO! You can easily build the SIMPLE adapter yourself from an old clone MC and some SD-slot or Micro SD adapter! (LET'S) DO IT! :)

Defrag or turn off fragmentation check. Try another build of opl. Also check a opl compatibility list

Not sure if that is support for those other devices. I don't recall issues with error writing settings on opl 1.0? If still issues, try 0.9.3
