Thanks. Good information. My June 2020 MY has a terrible suspension and the opening and closing doors feels and sounds flimsy and cheap. All the new ones I have tried has much better feeling and ride quality (even prior to the October upgrade tested in this vid). The latest MY I checked out had door opening and closing as solid as any BMW, Audi or Merc I have ever felt. I was REALLY surprised and blown away by it. My neighbors July 2022 LR MY w 20 inch wheels also has a very good suspension feeling. Not in par with a BMW or Audi but good enough for me (I prefer a somewhat stiffer suspension - my current MY however is uncomfortable and feels cheap). I am very impressed to see Tesla's rapid progress.

Took my 2019 Tahoe on a 1,500 mile roadtrip last year and had a great experience. Took my 2022 Model Y Performance on the same trip last month, and it was even better. Total cost was $344 (for gas) in the Tahoe and $126 (for supercharging) in the Tesla. The Tesla added an extra 3.5 hours to the trip, but all of our luggage fit just fine in the Tesla. Just driving locally in my city amounts to about $2 in the Tesla and about $10 in the Tahoe. The Tahoe is bigger but the Tesla has tons of storage space. It's just a matter of preference. My Tesla goes 0-60 in 3.5 seconds like a video game. The Tahoe does it in about 7 seconds. For me, the Tesla wins.

3.5 hours extra for charging is a lot. If you go the speed limit should only be 2.

Very interesting comment. I was just on a 320 mile trip each way and was thinking I’d like to be in a Tahoe because they are so comfortable and could absorb the massive potholes in and around Pittsburgh better than most other rides.

@@JonathanRootD OK, well I actually own the car and it took 3.5. Not sure where you are getting this info from, but in the real world, that's what it took me. You honestly think that you can travel 1,500 miles and only charge for 2 hours? Not in a Model Y Performance.

@@Jbiglin I've never been to Pittsburgh, but in Tampa, there are some rough streets. There's no doubt that the Tahoe is a better ride when it comes to comfort, but to be honest, I don't care. I'm willing to have a rougher ride to have the acceleration, instant power, convenience, nearly zero maintenance and overall appeal of the Tesla. My last car was a 2018 Subaru STi. It was rough. The Tesla is not that. It's stiff, but comfortable. I can only speak from my experience, but I love my Tesla.

Terrific video, review, and contributor! I have a 2021 M3SR+ built in Fremont and I’m guessing I’m a lucky guy - no build issues, panel gaps solid, and the thing runs like a champ. Looking at the 2020 and 2023 MY cars in the closing section of your video, I’m once again impressed that Tesla avoids the typical OEM approach of planned and intentional obsolescence. While there have been changes and modifications to their vehicles over time, the most essential component (software) is updated across the board. So unique and does not get enough praise or recognition for its radical departure from “the way we’ve always done it” business model that every other OEM uses. Always a fun watch when I spend time in your channel. FYI, I’ll be sorry to see the pink wrap go.

I got the exact same car ( 2021 M3SR+) from Fremont and it has great build quality. I would say just don't take it if you don't like it. The one I rejected previous to that had a glue mark in interior, panel gap issues, and a/c fan noise.

But, for my surprise, I got double pain windows in the back and in the front. My question is, which suspension is better, aftermarket, or present one? I have 19” wheels, ride is kinda ok, but I would like to make it softer. Is it worth an investment? Thank you very much.😊

I was told the suspension on my July 2022 build PMY had a revised suspension. I can say the 2022 PMY rides better than my 2020 LR AWD.

I have the 2023 4680 structural pack and front/rear castings, and I feel those aspects along with the new suspension components add to the overall feel and experience. IMO

Also, the newer MY also has carpeting in the rear door openings that used to be plastic as well as carpeting in the door binnacles (mine are all plastic w no carpet liner).

I think Teslas plan is to make model 3 and model Y non-performance models slightly more comfortable At the expense of a bit of performance in speed & maneuverability. But simultaneously make the performance models Even better on the track; differentiating the two types. Helping the sales of the two different type drivers. I think the average Tesla driver would prefer a smoother, softer, and quieter ride rather .5 sec speed boost or super firm tight turning.

I had the 21 Audi Q3 and the 21 MY, I think a better suspension does necessarily means softer, it's the way the suspension filters the impacts over bumps. For ex. The MY passes 100% impact of whats on the road into the cabin while Audi only passes abt 50%. And the Audi feels solid when going over bumps, not much of aftershock compared to the MY.

@@leffingwells The Performance doesn't qualify for the tax credit as its over $55k and the 7-seat Performance that would qualify as an SUV ($80k limit for the tax credit) rather than a hatchback is not currently available to order. Any Long Range would still have to be under the $55k threshold, so you can only throw in a couple of options (say, a non-white paint color and tow hitch).

I ordered the Unplugged Luxury coilover kit for my ‘23 MYP as well. While I can live with it, they deserve better than the factory suspension. The camera on the left has better resolution, color and contrast. Can’t offer more perspective than that since I’m looking at a video of a video through an iPhone. But the current camera is clearly better from where I’m sitting.

My 2023 Y LR has parking sensors & comfort suspension. Fremont build quality was excellent, No panel gaps, Nothing loose, and No issues.

In continental europe, they come with the old suspension. You should confirm this with Tesla UK before place the order.

If suspension and noise is a concern I’d say test drive one… it’s the only way to know if it’s gonna be an issue for you. When I test drove them I did so in an area full of speed bumps and felt the suspensions worked great! I’d go w the 19 inch wheels for ride quality.

I test drove a Model Y Performance today and the ride felt silky smooth to me. Much smoother than my 2015 Mercedes GLA with run-flat tires.

We got a 2023 MYP a month ago and have put around 1500 miles on it, and I can honestly say it has a more comfortable suspension than the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox Premier we replaced. People who complain must be coming from a Lexus or Mercedes, I have never owned a luxury vehicle and don't understand the complaints at all.

I agree I had a BMW 335i with the sport package and you felt every bump and pothole in the road. Drove my Model Y LR 2023 and it a big improvement over the BMW. The Honda Accord seems a little smoother, but it also dips on corners, the MY with weight stays flat and doesn't roll. I'll take the MY LR over my Honda except for the long trips in areas where the charging network still needs work. Most trips shouldn't be an issue MY. Just a little more time on the road.

you should put passengers in the rear seats to see if they get motion sick. that’s been the main problem with 3/y suspension the hard rebounds. sitting only in the front is not enough imo.

I looked that the Model Y for the kids and I rented a Model Y and we took it on a road trip to La Jolla. This was 3 years ago. The drive, especially in La Jolla was jarring so I opted for the S due to the air suspension. So when my wife is ready for her next car, I will revisit Y. But like you, I am thinking its good to have electric and gas cars for different uses.

For anyone wondering, I had a 2021 Model 3 with 18” wheels and recently went to a 2024 Model Y Performance…and the MYP rides MUCH better than the model 3. The comfort suspension really is a big difference

About Model Y Performance 2023, I test drove a 2022 MYP and a 2023 MYP back to back on the same stretch of street and freeway, I can confidently say, the 2023 MYP has the Comfort suspension as well, which makes a pleasant difference. Love it so much we bought the 2023 MYP knowing it does not have USS for close range object detection. Parking in tight space has become difficult. However suspension is more important as you feel it at every moment while driving!

Hopefully they allow some sort of program to let you get the new USS installed if they end up releasing a new system. Glad to hear they improved the suspension since a lot of people complain about it being too rough.

@@MikeKobb you probably got it from the Fremont factory, where they were using those temporarily until more of the regular headlights came in.

@@harrychufan It was built in Fremont, yes, in mid-December. I think it was less than two weeks old when I took delivery. Back when they started using the matrix headlights as a stopgap, it was supposed to be for quite a short time. So either that has stretched out longer, or they've made the switch over.

Great video! That bardo color grey is awesome!! Tesla definitely needs the 360 view and heads up display. IMO, I would still get the performances model. I prefer performance over noise and slightly bumper. He made the right choice with the model Y ⚡️👍

It would be great if it can get the best of both worlds. I like a softer suspension that smooths out the bumps as I'm used to luxury cars like Jaguar. My wife prefers a stiffer supension as it reduces her car sickness. I'm used to my M3 and now prefer the stiffer suspension as I'm accustomed to it. I guess it's like choosing a mattress for your bed. Phillip.

I apologize if this was covered in an earlier post. Your ultrasonic sensors are being covered by your wrap. I had the same issue with my 2022 pre-owned MY from a clear bra. I was happy that the previous owner put on a clear bra, but, they forgot to cut out the holes for the ultrasonic sensors. After I had it fixed, it worked as expected.

I recently drove a 2023 Model Y P with the upgraded Tesla suspension. It was light years better than the original suspension on my 2021 Model Y LR. I did upgrade my suspension to the Unplugged Performance luxury suspension. The new Tesla suspension is noticeably better. I have my OEM tires. My wife has a 2019 Genesis G80. The new suspension is at least as good as that.

My 2023 MY AWD LR is very comfortable. This is someone coming from 5 series and C-classes. I hear that some parts are from the performance model like my 980 rear motor. Did the earlier models have "performance" like bumpy suspension? If so, maybe it shares parts with the performance model.

If you guys want a fast tesla, get the performance version, for 5k you get power, wheels, brakes, suspension. The 2k "boost" option is only a little power, nothing compared to performance. I wish i knew this before i ordered mine.

Hello. You mentioned your tint is 20 and should have gone 35. Do you mean 20%? I'm trying to have minimal tint for the back as it's very dark and preferred just Infra red blocking. Don't think such option exist without at least 20-30% darker tint.

The Polestar 3 is going to give the Y & X a run for its money. Their air suspension is standard with active dampers and dual volume air springs each with 2 chambers. It's adjusting every 2-milliseconds and you're not compromising the performance. Would love to see you do a video on it!

You suggest that the battery may contribute to a harsh ride. But, what about Gigacastings? I suggest that the stiffness of the front and rear gigacastings make the ride more harsh.

Not true your comment. many ground up BEV platforms from other oems have heavy batteries on the floor and still offer a fantastic and comfortable ride without air. i’m currently reviewing the IONIQ 6 and it is a way nicer ride in comfort than my 2020 model 3 with MPP comfort kit suspension replacement. and it still turns on a dime.

@@saeedusI put Michelin's pilot sports all seasons 275/35ZR21 103W extra load in the rear and 255's in the front the ride difference was so noticeable that I thought something was wrong I couldn't believe that the oem performance tires were that stiff now I enjoy my Y that much more. I love the look of the 21'S and I refused to go to a smaller tire. Purchase from tire rack but it was hard to find a shop that knew how to jack up a Tesla and had the pucks to do it properly the shops tire rack recommended were horrible except one which I went with but I brought the pucks because the shop couldn't find theirs.

@@economicdevelopmentplannin8715 The ride is and quietness is better, if you drive the Y performance with the all seasons and the performance tires it'll be a major difference no need to up grade the suspension in my opinion the car rides and handles incredible to me and I owned a 2015 SRT and a 2017 2SS. And the road noise in the 2SS was horrible.

I love that grey! For the road trip I think it comes down to time. I have done it a few times from D.C. to LA in a gas power car and in a Tesla. The Tesla does take more time without question however having autopilot made it so much more enjoyable. It's possible to sleep in a tesla and if you don't mind staying at an RV park you can wake up with a full charge and you still have access to rest rooms for a lot cheaper than a hotel.

I sold my 2020 MY based on suspension alone. I’m in a 2022 MS now and it rides like a dream with the air suspension, and the road noise is significantly lower. I wish they had test models, I have contemplated going back to the MY.

I received model Y Feb 2023 new. Ride quality is not bad but it is not like VW ID4. The rattling noise from rearseat headrest and rear seat itself is really bad. On some rough roads, the front dashboard also rattles little bit sounding like thin plastic. It is hard to underdtand why such a high tech company can not fix this kind of simple issue. I hope Tesls would add more foams or rubbners where it is needed. I am sure Tesla will correct these issues in no time because it is not hard. I hope Tesla would notify me to take my car to Tesla Service to get it fixed for free pretty soon.

I have a 2021 MY LR with 20" wheels, finding the ride too firm. Need new tires anyway so thinking about these options: #1. Replace Good Year Eagle F1 OEM tires with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (not 4S) with acoustic inserts ($1,995 @ Discount Tire) #2. Order TS Sportline 18" wheel/tire package with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 for $3,100 (that's their only tire option) #3. Blow the budget with new tires AND Unplugged Luxury Coilovers (probably $6K or so all in with installation) Any recommendations? Thanks!
