Items like this and other cheap imports have allowed a lot of us DIY’ers to get into metal fab and woodworking where we wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it. I prefer to buy US or EU whenever possible but sometimes Chinesium works OK and is a lot easier on the wallet!

Hey Cody, I know this has nothing to do with plasma cutters, but I wanted to pass this on. Forgive the length. I came across a book in a used book store in Victoria. It was vol. 4 of a four volume set "Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide" from 1923. It has a quote on the opening page by John Ruskin that reminded me so much of the things I learned from your early videos, when I was first aquatinted with the "proper" way of doing things. Wow, I'm seriously impressed. I'm on Amazon almost daily just checking out their products and I've had doubts about buying plasma cutters that cost 3 times what this one costs. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I'm always worried about their packaging due to the shippers lack of care, but it even looked to be packaged with care.

I actually enjoy your unboxing videos. Having a learned, well spoken host makes a difference. Many people simply ramble through the various contents like they're reading a grocery list. You seem to speak to the items (and potential pros/cons) that are of the most importance. Very helpful.

You know expectations are low when "I didn't get electrocuted" is on the list of positive atributes for a tool.

I had a cheap plasma that I used for over a year in my shop before I picked up a Hobart. On 1/4” and below the cheap plasma worked just as well as the much more expensive Hobart.

I swear, since I found ur channel I've watched almost every video u have posted. Just being educated in general by ur videos is pretty damn cool. I live in a big city and have no plans of chopping down trees or living off the land but just watching and gaining that knowledge is priceless and very entertaining. Keep em coming.

Yes, they do work well for the odd bit of DIY cutting. Just remember the cables are CCA wire, and will eventually break off at the flex points, so be prepared to either replace them when the bend becomes very sharp at the ends, or buy new ones. Not going to compare to the bigger units, at all, but for thin sheet and a bit of auto body work perfect for the price, and a lot less noise than a grinder and disks, though you will probably need a grinder to get the ragged edges flat and smaooth again.

Hey, I have the 110 version and I use it for roughing knife blanks and various projects around the shop. Worked up to 3/8" for me too. Pretty good little tool. It's the harbor freight of plasma cutters.

Just got home from open heart surgery...had to grab my cough pillow after the " it's like the Mike Bloomberg of plasma cutters". Chest still hurts like it was cut open with one of these.

Never had problems with metric or imperial, yet I learned the correct one first.

I’m excited to see this one! I’m planning to review the cheapest one at tractor supply I bought for my Dad for Christmas, it’s really nice for the $350. Seems to be awesome for what he’s doing! It’s a Forney so it’s a name brand 💪

Gotta say it's pretty nice seeing decent stuff for a low price becoming more available. I bought a 20 amp welder off Amazon for $110 and built a home-made belt grinder with it. Never had a single issue with the welder and while it's not super adjustable I was able to get it at a good spot for welding the material I had. All the welds looked solid and it didn't act up at all. It's really nice to be able to get a product you know you probably won't use a ton and not be hurting the wallet too much. Good high quality tools are great, but sometimes that cheap "good enough" stuff is just what I need.

Friend in florida had an industrial sized plasma cutter I used alot, he had a separate dryer we put in the line that was designed to use a full roll of toilet paper as the changeable filter/dryer element.

If I were to buy one of these I'd look for one of the "CUT 50" models. Very similar to this but just a larger transformer so you can get a few more amps out of it. It appeared by the 3/8 in material cut, there may have been a "bit of a struggle". As you stated, totally agree with getting the 240V models. Sooner or later when I get tired of buying gas bottles for my torch I'll buy one of these. They seem like a smart choice for hobbyists / occasional use like I do.

I have several welders from an engine driven Lincoln 225g7 to a small 120v transformer welder. I recently bought a cheap inverter welder, 120v. It's now my favorite most versatile welder. I recently bought a small inexpensive inverter plasma torch, and am looking forward to using it. When I was younger you could not touch these welders or cutters for under $3500 USD.

im needing a cutter and welder, also wanna get a wood lathe but dont have a lot to spend. So thank you for all the info it helps alot when searching.

I had a plasma cutter nearly identical to this. Same size case and everything, just under a different name. It ran great for about a year and I never had any issues with it once the settings were dialed in for the thin automotive sheet metal I cut. After the machine sat on the shelf for roughly 5 years I needed to use it again. I hooked it up, flipped the power switch, and POOF; a giant cloud of white smoke out the vents. I can't even describe the smell. Took it apart and couldn't see any visible damage, but It's done, won't turn on at all... I guess I got my $350 worth out of it.

Honestly, I always enjoy it when a tool works better than you want it to. It’s always nice to find a good tool for a great price. I highly doubt this is anything super great, but it does the job. It’s definitely great for someone starting out and looking to do so on the cheap. These Chinesium tools are getting better and better with time.

The first batches of Chinese-made products and several still in the market right now are easily broken. But the new ones are getting better with very competitive prices. Just like when Japan started their technology back in the 50s and 60s and after 30 years Japan made products are high quality. They'll get there eventually. Good review.

Thank you, I ordered what looked like same model, mine came plug less, 110/220 model, so tried 110 to use extension cord, nope... spit and sputtered... Also the regulator did not have psi so now I know .04 is where 50 psi is... I'll put a welder plug on and give it another try. Thanks for the videos. Stay Safe, from Linn county Oregon

To combat the non standard air fittings, I have swapped every female connector in my shop to the universal quick connects. I even made a couple adapter assemblies for when I use someone else's compressor.

Thanks for the review, Wranglerstar... I have been subscribed to you for going on two years and have watched a few of your videos here and there. I think the one that drew me to your channel was a review on a little wood-burning forge. I ended up making one of those and used it for quite a while until I got a coal forge and now a Propane forge. Now, I am looking at getting a plasma cutter. I am trying to decide between a couple hundred dollars vers a much more expensive option. I think this little machine worked well and will likely meet my desire to cut a profile out of a piece of tin. I imagine the clean-up would be about the same no matter how expensive the machine is. So, ya... Cheap is better for me being as I live on my pension... Thanks for sharing your review and thoughts on this machine. I found it very helpful... Be well...

2 weeks after this test, and the 35i is no longer on Amazon. They now have the 45i at $194 which is only 110v. The 240v is $549. Lately it seems that everything that gets good you tube reviews, the price shoots up on Amazon.

Honestly thank you for this little review. I think I will pick one of these up here in the near future. Generally speaking, I prefer to buy quality tools and especially US made. However I've been on the fence over a plasma cutter for a while now and just haven't been able to justify $800+ for something I might use a few times a year at most for at biggest 1/4" steel. However Sub $200 is well within the budget and if it turns out I use it more than I think, then I can justify the $800 purchase at a later date.

Hi, the 2 bolts at the top behind the plasma is use to mount the air filter.

I'm finding more and more Chinese electric tools perform more than adequately for DIY's without the outlays in $'s. The 60cc chainsaw I bought was so cheap I bought 2, plenty of spares and worth it when looking at the prices of individual parts. A very good and informative video thanks from Australia mate.

On them screw type hose clamps I always put a few drops of oil in them. Really helps, you can still break/strip them.

I'm actually pretty impressed. I honestly expected a tool like that for that cheap was gonna be trash.

I have a powermax45 ($2000) and like this small machine for the small projects I do. I love the 110v when jobs don't have 220v plugs or my 80ft extension cord cant reach. I may try it. We have a storm currently and water is all over my tools and projects.

I think it would be cool to compare high-priced Chinese tools to similarly priced tools made in other countries. You always buy the cheapest Chinese tool and compare it to a tools other countries that cost 10x as much, and then stress "Chinese-made" versus "X-made". But if you actually want to compare the quality from different countries, you need to buy tools that are at the same price point.

Looks like a good kit for a starter, based on my no experience whatsoever heh.

You stated the larger steel bar was 8mm, or equivalent to 3/8". The metric system foils (some of) us again. 8mm is equivalent to 5/16", 10mm is approximately 3/8". Just so's ya knows. Thanks for all the great videos!

I bought a 32 amp 5 years ago, it still cuts great, I dont use it over 1/8 inch. I also bought a 50 amp, it cuts 3/8 quick. Flies through 1/4 inch. I cut a piece of 3/4 once. It was slow, but definitely doable. But for making 1/4" plate items, these cheap plasma cutters are fine. get a bunch of consumables on Ebay too.

I'm glad the thing worked. I bought a cheap welder on Amazon and it didn't even turn on. There's a lot of randomness in cheap products - Sometimes they last forever and sometimes they are dead on arrival.

Super informative video. Have two questions. Is the "Air in connection" not replaceable with a standard one? Also when you were cutting did you drag the tip on the metal or does one have to float above it and never touch the metal. I just bought one from Amazon and I will get it in a few days and as such I am trying to learn as much as possible.

What have we learned here ? China helps everyone to get into builting their dreams early. Once your profits comes in then upgrade it to more serious expensive equipment.

A nice little review, they are up to 167 now with Amazon prime. I was on the fence about picking one up. But for the money how can you beat it. Perfect for the home project hobbyist type of guy.
