Testing the DIY Drag Coil with the Minelab GP 3500 Detector
Will the DIY drag coil that we made work? In this video, we will be testing out the DIY drag coil that we made and see if it works perfectly fine. We will be testing it with our Minelab GP 3500 metal detector and calibrate it as well as we go with gold prospecting.

On Lake Carey they used to drag coils with quadbikes.There were 2 methods to mark the spots where there were good signal.1 They made a method of releasing a coloured golf ball for each signal.2 They used a spray paint can with a long plastic tube to mark each signal.They would then go back and detect the area thoroughly. Don't run signal full on on the

I made a good one out of I think it was polypropylene. You can get it from wa plastics in canningvale. About 12mm thick. Strong and you can get a scratch resistant type. Heated up the front edge and curved it up. Had timber side frame with thick nylon bolts to bolt it to the sheet. Used a length of the 2.5inch poly retic pipe as the towing arm and ran the cable down it so no chance of snags. I could run it over small bushes. Its best not to have any flex in the base like conveyor or after a while you'll ruin your coil. I had foam on top of the coil and timber fixed down on top of the foam to hold it snug.

You need to have the rope attached to a belt so the weight is on your hips, also you need to secure the coil lead so it's not moving and interfering with the signal.

What is the maximum depth on large targets?

Would the coil be better spun 180 degrees? less off the coils cable would be moving over the top of the coil, this would help with some of the minor interference and false signals from above .
