Mike Elko's name did not dominate headlines in December, but Late Kick's Josh Pate doesn't care because he thinks Texas A&M nailed the hire. On Day 1 of SEC Media Days, the Late Kick host joined TexAgs to explain why he's so bullish on Elko leading the way in Aggieland.

On talent, the Longhorns should only lose to Georgia, but they aren't ready for the mental and physical grind of the SEC, and will lose at least one or two other games. Mark this down - they will lose 2 or 3 of OU, GA, UF, Ark, KY or A&M. Personally I would love it to be OU, Arkansas and A&M. Mississippi - it is about how they have fared against the Alabamas of the world. They are great against most teams, but they falter when they play elite teams. A&M's defense will be back to what they were under Elko as DC. That alone will make a difference. I worry about CW's durability, but the offense comes down to the OL.

I wanna hear some ones take on how the SEC has divided the devisions, there's a chance of 7,8 or even 9 teams with a 10-2 record at the end of the regular season @LateKickJosh

There are no longer divisions in the SEC. They did away with them beginning with the 2024-25 season.

It’s funny listening to Aggies talk condescendingly about The Big12. Their program struggled with those exact same Big12 programs. Why? Because they’re well coached and jam packed with TXHSFB talent. The Big12 put 9 teams in bowls last year, same as the SEC. 88% of the 2023 Texas schedule was well over .500. I’d rather play a Miss State over a TCU. I’d rather play Vanderbilt over a Houston. Give me Kentucky over Kansas. I’d prefer to play some of these uninspired coaching staffs in the SEC who also lack decent QB play.

Dude. Look at the NFL numbers over the last 20 years. They completely bear out the fact that there is a giant talent advantage in a certain conference. And the talent lies in the haymaker combination of: Georgia, Bama, LSU, A&M, Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida.

It is so much more fun being in the SEC and playing 4-6 marquee teams every season. I'm not trying to be negative towards the big 12, I love the big 12 and remember those years fondly...it just is what it is

Analyzing schedules and results is not the same as studying talent and roster depth. You’re not wrong, but you’re not looking at the same thing.

Putting teams in bowls has literally nothing to do with the collective talent within a conference. Texas facing a bunch of winning-record teams and struggling in 2023 should be alarming from a talent standpoint. They recruit at an elite level and struggled with teams that play in an average to below average producer of NFL talent (the absolute majority of the Big12's NFL talent came from OU and Texas). The SEC has sent over *twice* as many players to the NFL as the Big12 the last 3 years. You can't honestly believe that A&M is the same program now as it was prior to leaving the Big12. They have vastly more financial leverage and recruiting is far better.

I like how they say Texas has a cake schedule then proceed to say they aren't ready for the week to week grind in the SEC. Ummm they're playing an SEC schedule this year....how is it also weak?

It’s weak compared to every other sec schedule, yall pull so many home games and your road games are vandy, Arkansas, and A&M not exactly murderers row. But it’s still a harder schedule than any big12 schedule they had with most of the teams having the ability to beat Texas, for example Florida is projected to barely make a bowl but they are miles better than Baylor or cinci.

All but one of their hard games are home, and all their easy games are away. RRR to then host Georgia is brutal, but the rest of the schedule spreads out well. First SEC game is Miss State at home, and they're expected to be terrible this year. 4 of their 8 SEC opponents are the 4 lowest rated in conference projections/betting odds.
