Famagogo takes their Winnebago Revel 4x4 Sprinter van to Big Bend Ranch State Park, Texas, to explore the backcountry camping in this fantastic park. Camping in Tascate and La Mota campsites offer solitude and beautiful scenery, as do many other sites in this great park. Then on a cactus-covered hike up La Mota mountain, Kathy realizes that Texas isn’t for everyone as she pulls cactus spines from her foot. But the adventure continues…

Big Bend Ranch State Park is on my radar hopefully soon. For me as a birder this would be a great place to see some cool Mexican birds. Great channel 👍

I hope you get there soon. I have seen lots of birders there. It seems to be a great spot for that. Have a great trip! Thanks for watching!!

Been to the park a couple dozens times. Never had any sort of problem with flying insects.

I haven't either on previous trips. We must have just been there during a brief hatch. It had been really warm.

Those cactus spines are really treacherous! I've wondered if there's a toxic chemical in some of them, I've had some places where I've been poked that hurt for a long time. Sure do love the entire Big Bend region, so thank you for sharing your adventures!

Yes, They are painful and I think your right about toxic chemicals making it worse. As treacherous as the desert is I sure do love it. Thanks so much for watching Renee!

Those little black flies are crazy when they bite, we had to use bug spray and that got rid of them.

I always enjoy your videos. They are fun and very informative. I recently took home my brand new 2023 Revel and absolutely love it. I look forward to getting all kinds of accessories for it. I’ve been wanting one for many years. I have a question about going down steep off road grades. Does the Revel have a descent setting, or is it just simply keeping it in first gear and letting it creep along?

Thanks so much for watching. My Revel doesn't have a downhill setting, but I think some older versions might. I can manually shift into 1st gear and/or Lo range 4wd if it gets steep.

You are probably past it by now but Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Pine Springs Visitor Center at 400 Pine Canyon, Salt Flat , TX has a nice campground and great hiking. The night sky is amazing too.

I have 2 questions. I am staying at La Mota 2 from a Thursday-Sunday, how far was the drive from the visitor center to the spot? Also I am only staying at that site for those days so I was wanting to drive around and look at other trails and just explore would you suggest a 5 gallon jerry can or that isn’t warranted? Been going back and forth I have a irrational fear of running out of gas. I get about 380-400 miles when full with my Rav 4. Never been to this park but have been to about 5-6 other Texas parks since January excited for this one. :)

So there are three visitor centers servicing Big Bend Ranch. The Sauceda Ranger Station - Bob Armstrong Visitor Center is about 30 minutes from La Mota 2. I don't think ringing extra fuel in remote places is ever a bad idea. But I also think that if you can get 400 miles normally you shouldn't have any issues. My van gets less and we made it from Terlingua to the park and out on one tank easy. Have a great trip!

Very nice! Were you able to stay in 2wd to get to La Mota 2 or does that Van stay in awd/4wd mode all the time?
@Famagogo
@Famagogo Жыл бұрын
I could easily access La Mota 2 in 2WD. There were a few spots where higher clearance was nice. It's a pretty easy site to access. But a big rain could change this fast. Rangers can give you the latest info. Have a blast when you go!

Nice video. Looks like the most relaxing place. I would be curious if you could describe the intersection. Where are you? Turn off to get to that location.

dang, we're only in TX for about another month and I really wanted to check out BB state park but swarms of biting gnats is a giant absolute no from me lol
@Famagogo
@Famagogo Жыл бұрын
The biting gnats are seasonal. On my previous trip I didn't see them at all. So don't let that alone keep you from exploring Big Bend Ranch. Maybe call ahead and ask the rangers about when is best to avoid bug season.
