Texas-OU is a neutral site rivalry game where the fans are 50-50. Texas was also underdogs during that game. Texas almost came back and won that 2008 game against tech and then that historic play happened. Also that’s kind of just how scheduling works, and it’s unfortunate but they weren’t going to beat OU in Norman anyway IMO and Ok state for Tech was a home game, which Tech throttled them. Losing to OU was unfortunate but Tech also lost their bowl game to an ole miss team who was good but had no reason to beat tech by more than double digits. Finally, if you want to play the scheduling game, all three games before Texas played tech, were all against top 15 opponents, No. 1 OU, No. 11 Missouri, and No. 6 Oklahoma state. I don’t think Mac or Texas made excuses when the next year they got revenge on tech, beat OU, won’t the big 12, and went to a national championship. They simply just were saying we’re not letting this one slip away. Simply put, the 08 tech squad was amazing but the 09 squad just wasn’t as strong.
