Textured art, palette knife petals technique for beginners.

There are a few different ways you can load your palette knife.
Some artists like to do so by massaging the knife along the edges of the tubs they have mixed their paint up in, and others like myself prefer to use a smooth, flat surface.
I personally like to use a paint palette. To load my knife I will start with a little bundle of medium that I have somewhat massaged together into a pile. I will then slice my knife down into the bundle and drag it across the palette. I will scrape my knife along the palette a few times until I feel that I have enough paint and that it is smooth enough to use.
The goal is to get the paste nice and rounded on the knife. The smoother the edges on the knife the smoother the petal will appear on the canvas itself.

I am so sorry perhaps I will re film this video and add it beforehand. I do have another one explaining what I like to use though. I use pre made modelling pastes purchased directly from art stores and don’t make my own. I particularly love Matisse light x

The only problem I seem to be having that I want to work on would be the more defined line whenever you are picking up the pallet knife at the end I can’t seem to figure out how to create that look which I like 😅

So sorry! I have another video explaining what to purchase. I like to use a pre made modelling paste therefore you don’t actually make it. It’s straight from a tub. Brands I like are Matisse, Liquitex and Golden. You can find these in any art store :)

It is very expensive to buy the huge amount of modeling paste you mentioned. Do you have a bullet proved recipe ? Please answer here. I love your work.

If you don’t want to invest in modelling paste to start I can recommend that you purchase some ‘no more gaps’ filler from Bunnings instead. It dries faster but it doesn’t crack and you can achieve similar results. It’s only $5 or so 🫶🏻
