I'd say growing up most of my friends were into old cars and trucks. I'm 21 now and I own a 79 Plymouth drag car. My friend is rebuilding a 73 Chevy K10. Another friend of mine owns a 90 Dodge Ram with a 408 stroker that he uses as a mud truck, and I have another friend that just bought a 67 GTO to restore that also has a beautiful 86 Monte Carlo SS. Young people can still appreciate the older stuff believe me.

MrPland1992 , probably wasnt properly tuned, timing was probably not where it needed to be, and also depended on which pump you had, 160 horse, 175 horse, or the 913 or 887 which were 215 pumps.. different requirements for tuning each one, also, a little Thing called a governer spring kit makes a world Of difference in these trucks. @CuzRepo
@CuzRepo 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, they don't cost more. A 2020 tradesman 4x4 runs about $37,000. The number they came up with for the 1994 is false. If you were to spec a 1994 as similarly as possible to what is offered in a Tradesman, you'd have to chose a Laramie SLT, which was around $22,000 back in the day. Adjusted for inflation, that's around $39,000, and you'd still lack most of the features of the newer truck.

Having had an 01, currently 05 and regularly using a 2015 and 2020 I regret selling my 01, still love my 05 and although the 2015 and 2020 are luxurious by every comparison I still enjoy driving the '01 and '05 more than any of the new ones... There is just something different about them that is more satisfying to drive as a truck. Your comments about the mirrors those aftermarket mirrors on the 94 are from the third gen Rams and no the convex portion was not adjustable even on the factory mirror. The 94 had nothing more than a traditional chrome single-pane mirror. And yes they fifth gen Cummins is almost silent and comparison but I long for the day of hearing and good old first or second gen Cummins clattering by especially with a nice exhaust. The neurotrucks are surely far more advanced much more capable safer and comfortable and yet here I still prefer my '05 and wish I had my '01 back...

Great comparison between the two trucks. In 1994, the Dodge Ram was only available in standard cab. An extended cab was made available in 1995 and the extended cab rear clamshell doors came out in 1998. When the '94 came out, it was the truck to have. I recall talking with a Dodge dealer sales rep who took in a '93 Chevy Silverado on trade because the owner wanted the Ram due to it's looks and having the "latest thing." I have an '87 Dodge Dakota....and it has slide out cup holders....ash tray and a cigarette lighter....plus a transfer case shift lever. so similar to the Ram though it's 7 years older.

How do they compare? It depends on the basis of the comparison. If a basic truck for ranch or work is the expectation I'd choose the '94 because it has all the basic features one would ever need. Additionally, a '94 Ram can have nearly infinite modifications to the engine without violating pollution laws. If the expectation of the owner is to tow a 5th wheel or other travel trailer, creature comforts afforded by the '20 model would be preferable for long trips and a smoother ride. So, it I owned a ranch or large farm and was semi-retired I'd own both.

Seems like everything on rams, since forever, have always had a problem with absolutely everything breaking on it, constantly. EXCEPT the Cummins engine itself. HVAC dies, gauges die, everything electronic dies, the transmissions last 60k miles. A million+ mile engine mated to 60k mile transmissions attached to a 100k mile truck. Some people can score really good luck with em, but I don’t hear about it too often.
