TGI-Episode 103 ("Father Knows Less") | POD MEETS WORLD
Should Mr. Feeny have let Cory retake his test OR was he teaching him a valuable lesson?!
As Danielle, Rider and Will are digging in to Episode 3 they share their memories of costar Willie Garson. Willie is known to many as Stanford Blatch on Sex and the City but on Pod Meets World he is known as Leonard Spinelli.
Cringy or Classic? Cory makes a risqué joke about his parents… too much for a 12 year old?!

Will is absolutely right. When I was a child, I'd find myself identifying with Cory and Shawn. As a young adult going into college trying to find my place in the world, I identified mostly with Eric and Jack. And now as a father rewatching the series, I find myself Identifying with Alan. Perhaps that's what made the show so complex and induring..

The audio of Ryder's son is just magical. An incredible glimpse into the absolute purity of a child's mind reacting for the first time to a show we've all known for 30 years. He sounds so precociously funny and observant.

As a teacher myself, Mr Feeny's speech is something I remind myself of on days when I feel I was just about able to keep the kids from killing each other and worry that I have not taught them anything at all. I love that Feeny mentions that he didn't remember what he learned that day, that education is a long process of learning different ideas and concepts. I teach Preschool, so, my kids are only just starting this process. But, make no mistake, they ARE starting the process.

You can tell that Ryder is often thinking from a writer’s perspective and I love it. He keeps chiming in with what I was just thinking. These three have such a great dynamic. In the first episode Danielle says Ben Savage said it wasn’t his thing, and that makes complete sense. I love this trio for this project. 👏👏👏

Being the only way to ever catch it back then was on Fridays if you missed it you missed it. This podcast just popped up after I finished the series. I am SO happy you all are doing this…NOW back to the grounded joke. I love now being an adult and seeing these nods the adults get but kids don’t. Saw the same thing with Lizzie McGuire recently.

Hard disagree on not noticing what amazing actors the older generation characters were. Even as a child watching this show, I LOVED Rusty as Alan. The scene where he shows unappreciative Cory his roots later in the show has stuck with me since I was maybe 10 or 12 watching BMW for the first time. But I thought both of the parents and Mr. Feeny were all great parent/teacher/grandfather figures, and even if I didn't immediately identify with their stories, the show did a really great job of helping children and teens my age see their side of the story and introduce the complexities of what the ensemble at large was going through when their stories wove together.

Alan tries to wake up Eric, but he's dreaming about taking a test naked. I took the "Your mom can NEVER find out about this" joke being that he emphasized after he looked at the time that there is no WAY he could get away with this. I'm not sure if the writers thought of this, but there was a missed opportunity for a joke when Alan and Mr. Feeny are talking and Mr. Feeny says "I guess we're on opposite sides of the fence here" or something along those lines. There should have been a wide shot of the two of them on each side of the fence with a silent pause, where both of them acknowledge they're literally on opposite sides of the fence. I feel it would have been a funny end to the somewhat tense scene.

I’m not sure if you guys know this, but later in life, Willie Garson was asked to help out at an acting and singing benefit for the charity “You Gotta Believe.” It’s a charity that is right now mostly only based in New York City, but their main platform or focus is finding forever homes for teenagers and even young adults to be adopted into so they don’t age out of the foster care system without any family or support. So many kids never find a family or are passed from foster home to foster home multiple times without making any solid connections, and as soon as they are 18, they are basically sent out on their own, and they aren’t always equipped with the tools to get through life. So this charity helps those teens and even young adult find permanent, adoptive families. He absolutely loved the charity so much that he then adopted his own teenage son, who is just a fantastic young adult now. It’s so sad that he left this world far too soon, but I don’t think a lot of people know about the good works that he did on this earth, and the charity that he was such a good champion for later in his life. I’m so glad you guys had good memories of him :) if you search on KZfaq with his name and the words you gotta believe, you will see an amazing episode KZfaq episode of the show Stars in the House, which was a shell created during the pandemic to raise money for the actors fund, and help anybody in the arts get the funds that they need while not being able to work. And that episode is all about the charity, and his work that he did through it ❤

You nailed it by saying they wouldn’t make a modern show like this anymore. That’s why people are so drawn to it. There was a certain reality that isn’t there anymore. It’s not JUST that life is messy and sometimes consequences are worth fun time with dad (which is a great lesson. There’s more to life than school.)… but also 😱 parents do the thing that made you. The concept that knowing your parents are doing it is shocking is a strictly modern American one. Commenting on it like that is weird, but whatever. Parents do it! And teenagers make out. That’s life. I can empathize with Rider feeling uncomfortable with his filmed kissing scenes. And I’m sure that’s why new shows attempt to be respectful to the young actors, but the sacrifice is making completely unrelatable shows for a preteen audience. (Because preteens look up to teens and think they are more mature than they really are. So 11 year olds want to watch shows about 14 year olds.) It’s like if you’re older than five, you’re not allowed to be entertained until you’re 16 and watch adult shows about murder, explicit sex, violence, and drugs. There’s a desert of content for curious kids that just want to be around what they think is adult stuff without information overload from googling it and getting more than they bargained for. I’m sure these actors would say there’s still plenty of stuff for that age range, but we’ve already established it’s not the same. So let’s dial back our outrage over parents making innuendos.

I did like that message in the episode, in which you can make decisions for breaking the rules if it is beneficial to you, but you still will have to pay the consequences, and you must be willing to accept those consequences, so include those in making the decision to break the rule. In other words is the benefit worth the consequences to you.

This was such a good episode. I like how Cory is shown there is no definitive right or wrong answer. It is not a matter of who is right or wrong: Mr. Feeny or Dad. I like how Mr. Feeny has to play both roles: As a teacher He has to fail Cory because He didn't study for the test, but off the clock as his friend and neighbor He's glad Cory spent time with his Dad. It is complicated but it is Life, Cory.

Helllllo to whoever is uploading these. Question! I just watched the 1st and second podcasts on KZfaq here, and when I clicked on the 3rd, I got confused and saw that it was actually the 5th podcast, not the 3rd. So the 1st & 2nd are up as videos, and the 5th and 6th ones (this is the 6th). So as not to go out of order, I signed up for the iheartradio podcast to begin listening to the 3rd. However, it is difficult for me to focus when just hearing voices (I mix up who's talking, I get distracted and can't follow). I would love to see all the podcasts as videos. Did you film them all as videos? Based on the Instagram page, it seems there are lots of podcast video clips. Will these all make their way up here on KZfaq? And if so, will they be in order? I noticed episodes 1, 2, and 5 were uploaded 2 weeks ago, and this episode 6 was uploaded 3 days ago, and yet, it was all recorded this past summer. Just wondering if there's any chance I'll be able to follow them all as videos. Someone please let me know. Thanks. :)

They have unfortunately done a horrible job with this. They have done so many podcasts but have only uploaded 4 to KZfaq. They should have figured this out and had it set up to film each one to go up to youtube as they go up on the podcast apps as well.

@@watchreport actually they did say, they were NOT going to go up on KZfaq ever But people kept asking and asking and demanded it on KZfaq And suddenly the pod become popular and the people who they work for said They could have video footage Only the audio footage has been edited, not the video/zoom footage they have done

What happened to the episode after the pilot "on the fence" did that get deleted? I believe it was said it would be the next episode so I went to watch it to refresh - it was the watergun episode which was really another great one - especially with Cory and his Dad and the ending omgeee. Can anyone point me to that review because I don't see it sadly =( Thank you

No, I always felt like it was Alan’s last chance to keep a son. The older son is now girl crazy and getting away from parents, while Cory is still young enough for Alan to keep him. I don’t think it’s that Eric is forgotten or anything.

I see in a lot of shows now they will still cover the brands with tape or something on soda cans etc

How did Rider stumble across how gender "stereotypes" are still in style while saying they suck? It's literally why these shows are loved.

Don't think there's as much kissing in kids/family shows today 😅 definitely a 90s and 00s thing!
