🇹🇭 Thai Street Food - 5 Noodle Soups: • Thailand Street Food -...
BANGKOK, THAILAND - Today we’re going on a Thai street food tour in Bangkok’s Talad Noi, an old neighborhood, full of history, culture, and lots of delicious street food. From generations of noodles to a lady selling dumplings on a bicycle and a $3 plate of crab fried rice, I wanted to eat 10 plates, we’re in for a delicious Thai food tour!
📍 Kway Teow Roo (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวรู) (maps.app.goo.gl/Ujc4NNovdDxNK...) - This legendary noodle restaurant is famous for their egg noodles and mix of toppings, including red Chinese style bbq pork. Always delicious and satisfying and something you have to try in Talad Noi. Price - 50 THB ($1.37) per bowl
📍 Khun Phu Curry Puff (กะหรี่ปั๊บ คุณปุ๊) (maps.app.goo.gl/HxHvBNee3GDDv...) - This famous curry puff in Bangkok, makes a great snack while you’re walking around. Price - 10 THB ($0.27) per piece
📍 TumLubThai Khanom Krok (ตำรับไทย ขนมครก) (maps.app.goo.gl/8TXkcXA9Tf18N...) - Khanom krok are coconut griddle cakes, and they make it the traditional style. Price - 40 THB ($1.10)
📍 Daeng Racha Oyster Omelette (แดง ราชาหอยทอด) (maps.app.goo.gl/9TDWYAgM8Swbo...) - This legendary fried oyster omelet in Talad Noi is a Bangkok street food staple. Price - 80 THB ($2.19)
📍 Chives Dumplings (กุยช่ายนายฮี้‬) (maps.app.goo.gl/eiGTZJegUvKoc...) - This man is a living legend for his Chinese fried chive dumplings. Price - 50 THB (1.37)
📍 Je Jui Dumplings (เจ๊จุ้ย ขนมจีบซาลาเปา) (maps.app.goo.gl/42bVj1mCcVkx5...) - This hidden gem is known for their dumplings and baozi, that they’ve been selling for 3 generations from the back of a bicycle.
📍 Talad Noi Crab Fried Rice (ข้าวผัดปูตลาดน้อย) (maps.app.goo.gl/7Ys6QMwrURRGP...) - One of the best meals of the day was street food style Thai crab fried rice. It’s so good, I wanted to eat 10 plates! Price - 100 THB ($2.74) per plate
📍 Manop Suki (มานพสุกี้ สุกี้รถกระบะ) (maps.app.goo.gl/fFWRBEFEwFaJK... ) - Finally another family classic suki restaurant. Because of the rain, it was very quiet, but usually this restaurant is packed in the evenings. Their suki sauce is one of the best in Bangkok. Price - 60 THB ($1.64) per plate
Talad Noi (Talat Noi ตลาดน้อย) is a historical Thai Chinese neighborhood in Bangkok, and it’s an amazing place to explore and taste the delicious street food!

Lived there for years and you're right, for such a simple dish it was relatively difficult to find a good street version. Prik nam pla is essential as well. To this day khao pad remains one of my favourite dishes along with pad krapow. Sitting on the side of a busy soi under cover in the rain. Happy memories

Forty years ago ..Chinatown was my favorite place to eat in Bangkok and would take a boat there very often .. I walked around alot .. got lost and found Talad and a different food. I ate at the Crab rice food stall .. when I came back twenty years later I had cut my dreadlocks off .. a girl remembered me .. came over and stroked the back of my head .. what happened to your hair .. and I looked under the table and in my bag and she laughed, they all laughed as I looked for my dreadlocks and they gave me a wonderful plate. Forty years ago almost nobody had dreadlocks and people always stroked them. Now I didn't have them on my head but they remembered me and treated me kindly .. I was always alone and I'm tall so they remembered my face. And in Talad I found a place that sold acupuncture needles well done, sterilized and packed sterilized. It was alwaysinteresting to see people again who had been very young and now they were grown up with children. I love to watch you enjoy the food .. thanks alot!

Fried rice is definitely comfort food for me. When I was very little we had very close family friends from Thailand and the lady of the house used to babysit my brother and I and she made khao pad (Thai fried rice) often. (She did learn fast that Western kids do not care for squid in their rice for breakfast.) It's such a quick and simple dish that it's easy to take for granted. Many Thai restaurants in the US do not do it justice, if they serve it at all. But I found a small traditional Thai restaurant run by a very nice older couple on Church St. in Concord, North Carolina and they had proper khao pad. The flavors are completely different from other versions of fried rice. It was something I had not tasted since childhood and was a very sentimental moment. So... I understand it being comfort food 100%. Thanks Mark!

The fried rice I am use to cooking is very simple but when you make it yourself the Fried Rice is absolutely the best. I really enjoy watching your videos from wherever you are in the world. I have mentioned in other comments you are truly the “Food Ambassador” of the planet. I mean that your palate has no boundaries and you seem to like foods from ALL parts of the world!!!

So happy that you covered Talad Noi area, is so underrated and only stone throw away from Yaowarat chinatown. We went to the talad noi crab fried rice last year, this place was on my radar after we went for a good meal in a restaurant called charmgang about 100 m away from the crab fried rice stall. That night i told my husband this stall is very special from the way Aunty plays with the wok and the aroma was just amazing. The next day we went to try aunty fried rice and imho it was better than Jay Fai. Im glad that you came and do like the food, the whole family running it deserves to be featured in your vlog and hopefully will even flourish more in the future

Mark: I was stationed in Bangkok in the Army in 1972. I also loved fried rice. Since I could not speak Thai well, I found out that I could order Khao Phat Gai because it sounded like cow pot guy. A plate was 25 cents then, and it was a full meal. I ate it often. I have tried to make fried rice at home, but it never comes close. Like you said, it is hard to make it good.

Yes, Mark, we grew up with fried rice. We are indonesian a dutch. Mom made it so much that when my friend would come over, they loved it. To.where my mom started catering, making a business out of it. My brother wouldn't do it because his rice came out looking like mash potatoes lol.lol, so mom taught me when I was 5, starting with rice and then moving to other dishes. I love cooking to this day she still teaches me at soon to be 84

That Fried rice goes way back .....in the southern USA, we didn't call it fried rice ...but thats exactly what it was. We just did it a little different and used pieces of fatback with the egg. A rescue food when the pantry got low ....in the lonely deep south.

As a Thai native, I have enjoyed homemade fried rice since childhood, and my mother’s recipe remains the best in my experience. The techniques for cooking fried rice can vary widely among families. Some may add dark soy sauce to enhance the color, while others might not. Similarly, some include tomatoes, while others avoid them to prevent the dish from becoming watery. The timing of adding eggs can also differ, with some adding them early and others later. Mastering the art of fried rice can take months or even years, as the dish, though seemingly simple, is quite intricate. I am delighted to welcome you back to Bangkok and look forward to exploring and tasting local dishes with you. I hope you didn’t catch cold after the filming. Cheers!

As a fan and a follower of your work is there possibility that you could one day shoot a Documentary about Youself like how many countries you been to, how many countries you plan to go to, have you ever had food poisining in your trips, what made you travel to countries to eat food, how don't you gain weight, and do you eat all the foods entirely that they serve you or do you just taste them like a Gourmet. I have so many questions to ask you i think many of your followers do also. I wish one day you would shoot a Documentary like that a small video sort of to answer all of our questions about Yourself.

Thanks for the history lesson and showing the neighborhood in detail! Very interesting! Don't be afraid to do this more often. ❤

I have always struggled with eating any food foreign to my culture, i always end up hating it. Until i tried Thai food. I feel like it's still underrated, i love it.

My first Fried Rice early 70’s NKP, wrapped in banana leaves and newspaper .25 cents. Still having Fried Rice to this day, my Thai wife makes a really good plate of Fried Rice Shrimp

Great video Mark! I am going to replicate this tour the next time I tour friends thru Talad Noi. I think I will skip the fish Ma though.😊I also like how you add in some history of the neighbourhood. Perfect combo. Also thanks for all the location pins. Cheers
