durian from both country are good. its only a cultural difference of eating durian. Thai prefer slightly hard durian & they pick durian from tree meanwhile, Malaysian prefer soft ripe durian & we dont pick from tree, we wait until the durian naturally drop from tree. so both durian are good ,just cultural different & personal preferences. both Thailand and Malaysia has their own variety.

We Malaysians love Thai cuisine as well, but it's difficult to find Thai durians in Malaysia. However, after trying them in Thailand, we found the taste to be quite good and suitable for a wider audience. Personally, I think Thai coconut juice is tastier than the one we have in Malaysia. However, taste is subjective, and we all enjoy both Thai and Malaysian food.

Definitely agree. As a neutral foreigner, Thai durian is much easier and palatable to eat because it's not as strong. But I can definitely see why many durian lovers prefer Malaysian varieties because it bring more of an "experience". When I tried Thai durian, it felt like just another new exotic fruit. The first time I tried Malaysian durian, I didn't even know what to make of it because it was like nothing I've tried before 😂

I just came back from bangkok, tried Monthong! I am not a regular Durian consumer in Malaysia.. I eat durian outside of its season even though its more expensive coz I cant wait for its Season (usually June - August). 😂 i Agree with you guys.. Monthong is more forgiving to those who wanted to try for the 1st time. It is tasty on its own way, smell doesnt stick on your mouth for too strong and too long.. The taste is similar to a Good Kampung Durian however the texture is totally different.. Some malaysian just arent fair commenting that Monthong are tasteless.. hahaha.. for me, you guys described it best especially Flora and TK. Note seems like he is still digesting and contemplating from the Long argued Malaysia vs Thai Durian.. 😅 But he has a fair point too.. Thanks for the Vid Guys!

"2022 World Durian Championships" :~ "Black Thorn Durian" from a 40-year-old durian tree in Malaysia's won the "2022 World Durian Championships" While the more commercially available Musang King varietal seemed like a sure-fire winner, it was the cult favorite "Black Thorn" variant that took home the crown by defeating Musang King and other varieties, and was named "King of Kings" 16 judges evaluated the taste, texture, color and aroma. Taste-wise on black thorn:~ "It truly packs a punch, with dramatic flavor profiles that range from a rich sweet creaminess that segues into a lightly nuanced bitterness and an almost caramel-eques aftertaste that lingers on the palate, truly the winner. At the end, Black Thorn Durian defeated 45 other contestants and classified as the top notch winner

@@FloraandNote The Black Thorn mother tree in Malaysia originated in Penang, grown from a seed brought back from Thailand who then cultivated and hybridized the variety with a local Malaysian durian. So you could say half of it strain from Thailand descent as well.

In Malaysia Durian is not just a fruit but a culture, back in the old days in every Malay and also Chinese Kampung there will be a Durian feast when the Durian seasons is coming. I still remember when Durian season came my grandad will sleep for weeks at the Durian orchid to wait for the Durian to fall of the tree and fend of Elephants and Tiger and wild animal from eating it. YES in Malaysia TIGER and ELEPHANTS LOVE DURIAN and especially in the Northern and East Coast state tiger and elephant will come to villagers Durian orchid to steal Durian, they love Durian so much just like the human in Malaysia. When Durian season came every village will have a picnic at the Durian orchard and all relative from all over Malaysia will come back to their hometown and eat so many Durian and Durian based food. Its Durian maniac in Malaysia when the season comes.

As a Thai, I also do like Musang King durian from Malaysia, too. I disagree with you guys that Thailand has less varieties of durian than Malaysia. Monthong durian may be the easiest to grow and it gives a plenty of fruits comparing to the other types of durian. There's a lot more varieties of durian in Thailand (at least 100 if classifying them in details). My father grows durian trees as his hobby after his retirement, 1 or 2 durian tree(s) from each type, and he has around 20 types including Musang King. We found that Monthong is the easiest one to grow and taking care of the tree. They start giving fruits after 3 years of plantation while the others not. We're waiting for Kan-yao, Puang manee, Nok Yip, Kop Chai-nam, Longlap-lae and a lot more durian fruits from our trees.

We accept that Thai durians are harvested before they ripe. This is the problem that Thai people blame the farmers as well. But the truth is - the farmers aren't harvest durian fruits themselves. The buyers (especially the Chinese buyers) will come to the farm and harvest the fruits without caring the ripeness. I have many relatives who have durian trees. They always give us durian fruits so I know the real taste of perfectly ripe Thai durian (not overripe ones), it way better than durian that you buy in the market. FYI, Thai people call overripe durian as 'pla-ra' (northeastern Thai and Laos style fermented fish). Not many of Thai people prefer overripe durian while most of the Chinese love them and the westerners who try durian for the first time got overripe ones, too. That's why we always see their funny reaction. My father selected to grow a Musang King durian tree himself hopefully to try perfectly ripe Musang King durian b/c I found only overripe (for me) Musang King in Malaysia and Singapore.

We also got another class of durian we call as durian kampung "village durian". It is basically a mixed of different types of durian from our rural areas. Back then no one knows what type of durian they planted, they only know the results once they harvested the fruit. So these unknown type of durian collectively called as "village durian". The price usually cheaper as the quality varies from fruit to fruit. But some of it actually on par with the famous durian variety like XO and musang king.

As a neutral foreigner who tried Malaysian durian first (I didn't hate it but I didn't really like it), I thought durian in Thailand would be the same so I never even thought about touching it. But I did notice that Thai durian doesn't really smell, and last week my family bought a durian while we were in Thailand and to my surprise it was ABSOLUTELY tasty! It was firm but a little soft on the inside and it was very fruity with a taste of 'freshness' (as opposed to Malaysian varieties lacking that refreshing fruity quality, with a taste that feels more fermented and mushy, with an aftertaste which I can only describe as 'onion-y'). I can definitely see how hardcore durian fans might prefer Malaysian varieties because it's more of an acquired taste, since foods that require acquired tastes tend to me more addictive. But like I said, as a neutral who doesn't really eat durian much, I would say the Thai variety is much more palatable.

Still if you love it creamy and pungent then musan king is your goes to but if you like it more lite ,easy and most value on your money then Thai Mhontong is the best choice

Agree with we can't compare who likes which durian between Malaysian and Thai because we're brought up eating durian different way. And also agree with it's easy for beginners to start with Thai durian before Malaysian durian. As Malaysian I definitely prefer Malaysian durian. It just a simple reason as why Malaysian only harvest when the fruit is ripen because we want it to has the best flavor. About putting durian in refrigerator. Ughhh no please. If I want something refreshing or durian ice cream, I just have an ice cream. My favorite combination of food and durian is durian, steamed rice and fish curry. In my opinion the taste was superb. Sweet and bitter from durian. Spicy and sour from the fish curry.

It is inappropriate for some Malaysian durian lovers to criticize Thai people for not knowing how to properly eat durians. Different people have different preferences on how to enjoy their much-loved fruits. Thai durians have been a cultivated crop for ages, traditionally grown in the south and later in the eastern part of the country. To ensure Thai people all over the country, far and wide, could enjoy the fruit almost at the same time during the harvest season, a practice of calculated premature harvesting (the popular variety trees are not very tall) was thought to have started, which has become an effective practice for current domestic and overseas distributions. As such, we Thais are blessed with the choice to enjoy the fruit based on our own preferences, such as "crispy outside, soft inside", "soft" or to a less extent "mushy". I personally love "soft" Thai durians and Malaysian's Mu San King as well.

Wash you hands from water also filled into the durian shell to get rid of durian smell from your hands. I luvvvvvvv durian.

When was this? I see firecracker paper on the ground, around Chinese New Year? I've always wondered about "XO" - maybe it smells like alcohol because it's slightly over-ripe.. in Malaysia durians start to ferment after a few days, people turn it into "tempoyak", which is used in Malay cooking.

the next level would be fermented durian with sambal budu mixed with rice, mostly popular along the east coast in kelantan. if you find a restaurant that has sambal tempoyak(fermented durian) or budu durian have a go with rice. I'm personally a fan. also, I like the tekka variant of durian alongside musang king, and if you like pure sweetness D24 is the go to.
Final muy increíble 😱
