Well done on the great mileage you did. And thank you for all your video coverage which provides a great resource for those of us trying to follow in your wake. I have no doubt you'll finish this again.

When is the run this year? maybe I'll join you if the times work. last weekend showed me how helpful it is to have a running buddy!

Hi Felicity thanks for watching the videos, didn't see your comments until just now. Was great volunteering with you at our great little aid station at NDW! How was your run in Scotland a few weeks ago? Thanks so much for the offer of being running buddy. My 100 miler this year was in May - I finished it, but haven't a video for it (yet). You got any plans for Centurion races this or next year? I might do Autumn100 or NDW100. I'm doing Race to the Stones 100k though next July.

Hi Neil thanks for the kind words. Only seven weeks til Thames Path 100 again, can't wait to get back out there to experience (and film) the inevitable suffering. Are you racing this year?

Hi LF thanks for watching! Thank you, the 2021 race did go a lot better, I finally got round to making a video about it a few weeks ago. All the best.

Good video, thanks. Nice to see how the aid stations work. I've had 2 DNFs at TP 100 and missed the same turning across the bridge you did, luckily that was just in a training run. I was meant to have another go last year but quarantine after a trip abroad put pay to that. Good luck for next month, I've entered so might see you on the course although I'll be starting at the back of the pack.
@KrisPeter

Cheers Simon good luck to you too. If you're back of the pack I'm guessing you'll start "at the front" this year? I'll be starting in an earlier for sure. Hope to see you out there.

Hi Kris, just watched your video. I'm running tp100 for the first time in 2021. Really enjoyed your video and found it insightful. Also aiming for under 24 hours but honestly be chuffed to finish. Tom (bib number 261).

@@KrisPeter I'm not sure at present tbh. Was thinking through the benefits of starting late and then more likely to overtake than be overtaken. Prefer that mentally. What's your tactics this time? Heard it's best to aim for 50 miles @ 10 hours then allows plenty of time to limp in!
@KrisPeter
@KrisPeter 3 жыл бұрын
@@potato-f5t I'm aiming for similar - 50 miles in 10 and a half hours. Run 15 minutes walk 3. I think starting earlier suits me as a) I don't mind being passed, and b) the aid station food isn't all gone! So around 8 or 8.30ish.
@potato-f5t
@potato-f5t 3 жыл бұрын
@@KrisPeter I hadn't considered the aid station supply element. Options are already limited in these covid times. 15/3 is my tactic too coincidentally!

Thanks for the video!! Sorry your DNFed but missing the 30 hours calculations let you minimize the damage. Very helpful as I plan my first 100 miler on a similar path in Ohio, USA in October 2021.

Thanks Joe. Yes sometimes when the cutoff approaches, you have to know when you're defeated! That or I'm a wimp. I'm sure you'll finish though. Good luck for the race, what's it called?

@@KrisPeter Those decisions in the middle of the night are what set 100 mile races apart. My planned event is on October 9, The Canal Corridor 100 in Akron, Ohio, USA along the fabled American man-made waterway, the Erie Canal. Thus, quite similar to the Thames in flatness...no Windsor Castle though!!! Maybe we could persuade Prince Harry to pop in??!!!

The hardest line to cross is the start. May I suggest you look at the Jeff Galloway Run/Walk Method? The amount you run versus walk is down to the individual. The keys are (a.) start employing it from the start e.g. run 50 metres and walk 50 metres (b.) Use the run/walk technique on your longest weekly run. Because N.Z ultras always involve serious hills I walk the hills, run downhills and run/walk the flats. PS: Run/walk will lessen your chances of injury and assist recovery.
@KrisPeter
@KrisPeter 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, not looked at Run/Walk/Run before. I think I was doing a version of it in this race, but the walk and run times were longer and it just tired me out. Based on this I will need to shorten the walk/run times. Thank you again.
@InterestingFingz
@InterestingFingz 3 жыл бұрын
@@KrisPeter Yep, you need to get into a groove or be tactical. As a complete example: your tactic could be up-to 60km I'm going to run 20 metres walk 20 right from the start. Then at 60 I'm dropping to 20 run and 20 walk. In my experience you only really lose time of other competitors or chase the clock till about 40 to 50km and then you will start reeling them in. Note: the amount you run versus walk is up to the individual. Enjoy your videos. Keep it up.

That’s a shame but I’m sure the correct decision. Easy race?? I am not so sure, it’s a Western States qualifier and plenty of people have DNF’d mainly because it is so flat. Hope all went well in 2021. 👍🏻
@KrisPeter
@KrisPeter 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simon. I've posted the 2021 race video. You're right that it isn't an easy race, but for me, the prospect of 10 flat miles at the end of a race is a lot easier to wrap my head around than 10 hilly miles. Have you done this race or are you thinking of doing it?
